  • $TiO_2$ ($Ti_{1-x}Nb_xO_2$, x= 0.04~0.06) transparent conducting oxide film was fabricated by RF magnetron sputtering process and their electrical, optical, stability properties were studied. When the Nb 4 at% sputtering target was used with RF power 120 W, pressure 8 mTorr, post-annealing temperature $600^{\circ}C$, the resistivity of TNO film was $4{\times}10^{-4}\;{\Omega}-cm$. The optical transmittance in the visible wavelength was ca. 86%. TNO films require heat treatment during or after the deposition process. When the film was deposited at room temperature and post-annealed at $600^{\circ}C$, the lowest resistivity was obtained. When the TNO film was exposed to high temperature and humidity, the resistivity of the film was rather decreased. The stability to temperature and humidity implies that the TNO film could be a appropriate candidate for In-free, ZnO-free transparent conducting oxide materials.

Effects of Mechanically Activated Milling and Calcination Process on the Phase Stability and Particle Morphology of Monoclinic Zirconia Synthesized by Hydrolysis of ZrOCl2 Solution

  • The purpose of this paper was to investigate the effect of a high-energy milling (HEM) process on the particle morphology and the correlation between a thermal treatment and tetragonal/monoclinic nanostructured zirconia powders obtained by a precipitation process. To eliminate chloride residue ions from hydrous zirconia, a modified washing method was used. It was found that the used washing method was effective in removing the chloride from the precipitated gel. In order to investigate the effect of a pre-milling process on the particle morphology of the precipitate, dried $Zr(OH)_4$ was milled using a HEM machine with distilled water. The particle size of the $Zr(OH)_4$ powder exposed to HEM reduced to 100~150 nm, whereas that of fresh $Zr(OH)_4$ powder without a pre-milling process had a large and irregular size of 100 nm~1.5 ${\mu}m$. Additionally, modified heat treatment process was proposed to achieve nano-sized zirconia having a pure monoclinic phase. It was evident that two-step calcining process was effective in perfectly eliminating the tetragonal phase, having a small average particle of ~100 nm with good uniformity compared to the sample calcined by a single-step process, showing a large average particle size of ~300 nm with an irregular particle shape and a broad particle size distribution. The modified method is considered to be a promising process for nano-sized zirconia having a fully monoclinic phase.

POTENTIAL APPLICATIONS FOR NUCLEAR ENERGY BESIDES ELECTRICITY GENERATION: A GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE

  • Energy supply is increasingly showing up as a major issue for electricity supply, transportation, settlement, and process heat industrial supply including hydrogen production. Nuclear power is part of the solution. For electricity supply, as exemplified in Finland and France, the EPR brings an immediate answer; HTR could bring another solution in some specific cases. For other supply, mostly heat, the HTR brings a solution inaccessible to conventional nuclear power plants for very high or even high temperature. As fossil fuels costs increase and efforts to avoid generation of Greenhouse gases are implemented, a market for nuclear generated process heat will be developed. Following active developments in the 80's, HTR have been put on the back burner up to 5 years ago. Light water reactors are widely dominating the nuclear production field today. However, interest in the HTR technology was renewed in the past few years. Several commercial projects are actively promoted, most of them aiming at electricity production. ANTARES is today AREVA's response to the cogeneration market. It distinguishes itself from other concepts with its indirect cycle design powering a combined cycle power plant. Several reasons support this design choice, one of the most important of which is the design flexibility to adapt readily to combined heat and power applications. From the start, AREVA made the choice of such flexibility with the belief that the HTR market is not so much in competition with LWR in the sole electricity market but in the specific added value market of cogeneration and process heat. In view of the volatility of the costs of fossil fuels, AREVA's choice brings to the large industrial heat applications the fuel cost predictability of nuclear fuel with the efficiency of a high temperature heat source tree of Greenhouse gases emissions. The ANTARES module produces 600 MWth which can be split into the required process heat, the remaining power drives an adapted prorated electric plant. Depending on the process heat temperature and power needs, up to 80% of the nuclear heat is converted into useful power. An important feature of the design is the standardization of the heat source, as independent as possible of the process heat application. This should expedite licensing. The essential conditions for success include: ${\bullet}$ Timely adapted licensing process and regulations, codes and standards for such application and design ${\bullet}$ An industry oriented R&D program to meet the technological challenges making the best use of the international collaboration. 과냉각 축냉시스템을 적용한 쇼케이스의 운전 특성에 대한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on The Running Characteristics of Showcase Using Cold Storage System)

  • The purpose of this study was to show how tomaintain high efficiency and to use reasonably when being applied the cold-heat storage systems to the showcase. An experimental study was performed to manufacture the showcase system in a laboratory. Comparing the result at general operation condition with that of the new condition using ice storage system, this study showed the effects of the refrigerant sub-cooling, and with using inverter. Using ice storage system, the ice making process was operated during midnight being not needed the cooling of the showcase through the continuous running of the condenser unit. And then, the refrigerant was sub-cooled using the stored cold-heat after being discharged from the air cooling condenser during the day time. Through the experiments, the load transfer rate for the showcase using inverter and ice storage was estimated about 30.0%. And showed that the total power consumption of the showcase with inverter could be reduced about 37% than that of the showcase without inverter.

수승화강(水升火降) 조절법(調節法)(수화조절법(水火調節法))에 대한 제언 -약침을 이용하여- (Proposal on the Method of Regulating Ascending Kidney Water and Descending Heart Fire -through pharmacopuncture technique-)

  • Objectives The purpose of this study is aimed at diagnosing and suggesting treatment plans for commonly seen clinical manifestation of heat symptom in the upper body and coldness in the lower body, also known as hot above, cold below syndrome. Methods Various reasons attribute to the presence of hot above, cold below syndrome, but mainly contributed by blockage of normal Qi flow by abnormality of heart-kidney root, spleen-stomach axis, and liver-lung axis. Diagnosing these abnormalities and timely alleviation to the healthy state is presented in the study. Results 1For heat in the upper body, Huang Lian Jie Du Tang(黃連解毒湯), CF, or JsD pharmacopuctures are injected on GB21, GB20. Qi stagnation in the thoracic area is treated with BUM injection on CV17. For impairment of transportation and transformation in the middle energizer, BUM pharmacopuncture is injected on CV12. Coldness in the lower energizer was relieved by bee venom or Sweet BV(Bee Venom free from enzymes) on CV6. Conclusion Above proposed methods of regulating water-fire were effective in treating hot above, cold below syndrome in clinical manifestations. But once the symptom subsides, treatment focused on eliminating innate cause should be rendered to achieve more successful results.

도시열섬현상 저감을 위한 그린네트워크 구축 방안에 관한 연구 - 대구광역시 달서구를 대상으로 - (A Study on Green Net-Work Construction for Urban Heat Island Mitigation in Dalseo District, Daegu Metropolitan City)

  • As urbanization has been expanded in Korea, open spaces, such as urban parks and public sites, have been utilized for other uses, and then this bring out environmental changes for the worse. It is expected that these changes become more serious problems due to overpopulation, increasing individualism, and development of transportation. This research base on the consideration of connecting between decreasing urban green spaces and distributed green sites so as to build the substantial plan for the Green Network construction for urban heat island mitigation in Dalseo district, Daegu Metropolitan City. The result were as follow; 1) Connecting existing natural sites to the remained parks green zone made an Ideal form of Green-Network system. 2) Some school sites were selected for usable open spaces in order to build Green-Network system, and the plan connecting together with exist natural sites was suggested. 3) Moreover, the scheme of planting on the road spaces for connecting green spaces was proposed. 4) The devices of planting on the urban riverside for enhancing the role of urban stream to form green network was conceived.

연소열을 이용한 가연성 혼합물의 폭발한계 예측 (Prediction of Explosion Limit of Flammable Mixture by Using the Heat of Combustion)

  • 폭발한계는 가연성물질의 화재 및 폭발 위험성을 결정하기 위해 사용되는 중요한 연소 특성치 가운데 하나이다. 폭발한계는 상대 연소에 따라 가연성물질을 구분하는데 사용된다. 이런 구분은 가연성물질의 안전한 취급, 처리, 수송을 위해서 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 가연성혼합물의 구성하는 각 순수성분의 연소열과 기상 조성을 이용하여 폭발한계를 예측하였다. 제시된 방법론에 의한 계산값은 적은 오차범위에서 문헌값과 일치하였다. 따라서 제시된 결과로부터 가연성혼합물의 폭발특성치 예측 방법과 다른 가연성혼합물의 폭발한계 예측에 폭넓게 적용되기를 기대한다.

UM 자료를 이용한 노면온도예측모델(UM-Road)의 개발 (Development of Road Surface Temperature Prediction Model using the Unified Model output (UM-Road))

  • A road surface temperature prediction model (UM-Road) using input data of the Unified Model (UM) output and road physical properties is developed and verified with the use of the observed data at road weather information system. The UM outputs of air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, downward shortwave radiation, net longwave radiation, precipitation and the road properties such as slope angles, albedo, thermal conductivity, heat capacity at maximum 7 depth are used. The net radiation is computed by a surface radiation energy balance, the ground heat flux at surface is estimated by a surface energy balance based on the Monin-Obukhov similarity, the ground heat transfer process is applied to predict the road surface temperature. If the observed road surface temperature exists, the simulated road surface temperature is corrected by mean bias during the last 24 hours. The developed UM-Road is verified using the observed data at road side for the period from 21 to 31 March 2013. It is found that the UM-Road simulates the diurnal trend and peak values of road surface temperature very well and the 50% (90%) of temperature difference lies within ${\pm}1.5^{\circ}C$ (${\pm}2.5^{\circ}C$) except for precipitation case.

  • This paper presents a numerical investigation on the local hydraulic cavitation phenomena of water resulting from the rotor with high rotational speed in the hydraulic cavitation heat generator. The numerical simulation utilizes the standard k-epsilon turbulence model, the mixture multiphase model and the Schnerr-Sauer cavitation model to simulate the complex cavitation phenomena in the generator. For exploring the efficient shape of the dimples on the rotor to causing cavitation phenomena artificially, the pressure distributions and the volume fractions of the vapor on the rotor are investigated respectively about different shapes of the rotor in the generator. The optimum shape of the dimple to causing cavitation phenomena in the selected shapes is obtained by the means of the numerical simulation.

A proposal on SOFC-PEMFC combined system for maritime applications

  • Maritime transportation is going to transfer to alternative fuels as a result of the worldwide demands toward decarbonization and tougher maritime emissions regulations. Methanol is considered as a potential marine fuel, which has the ability to reduce SOx and CO2 emissions, reduce climate change effects, and achieve the objective of green shipping. This work proposes and combines the innovative combination system of direct methanol solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC), gas turbines (GT), and organic Rankine cycles (ORC) for maritime vessels. The system's primary power source is the SOFC, while the GT and PEMFC use the waste heat from the SOFC to generate useful power and improve the system's ability to use waste heat. Each component's thermodynamics model and the combined system's model are established and examined. The multigeneration system's energy and exergy efficiency are 76.2% and 30.3%, respectively. When compared to a SOFC stand-alone system, the energy efficiency of the GT and PEMFC system is increased by 19.2%. The use of PEMFC linked SOFC has significant efficiency when a ship is being started or maneuvered and a quick response from the power and propulsion plant is required.
