This paper is to present the results of a comprehensive study on heat transfer in annuli with spirally corrugated inner tubes in the turbulent regime. Tube surface-temperature measurements were used to explain the enhancement phenomena in the annuli with several different corrugated tubes. Nusselt numbers were between 1.1 and 2 times the smooth annulus values. These enhancement values can be used to determine the appropriate range of applicability for spirally corrugated annuli.
This paper presents a sole application of boundary element method to the conjugate heat transfer problem of thermally developing laminar flow in a thick walled pipe when the fluid velocities are fully developed. Due to the coupled mechanism of heat conduction in the solid region and heat convection in the fluid region, two separate solutions in the solid and fluid regions are sought to match the solid-fluid interface continuity condition. In this method, the dual reciprocity boundary element method (DRBEM) with the axial direction marching scheme is used to solve the heat convection problem and the conventional boundary element method (BEM) of axisymmetric model is applied to solve the heat conduction problem. An iterative and numerically stable BEM solution algorithm is presented, which uses the coupled interface conditions explicitly instead of uncoupled conditions. Both the local convective heat transfer coefficient at solid-fluid interface and the local mean fluid temperature are initially guessed and updated as the unknown interface thermal conditions in the iterative solution procedure. Two examples imposing uniform temperature and heat flux boundary conditions are tested in thermally developing region and compared with analytic solutions where available. The benchmark test results are shown to be in good agreement with the analytic solutions for both examples with different boundary conditions.
In order to analyze the heat transfer phenomena in the plasma flames, a mathematical model describing heat and fluid flow in an electric arc has been developed and used to predict heat transfer from the arc to the steel bath in a DC Electric Arc Furnace. The arc model takes the separate contributions to the heat transfer from each involved mechanism into account, i.e. radiation, convection and energy transported by electrons. The finite volume method and a SIMPLE algorithm are used for solving the governing MHD equations, i.e., conservation equations of mass, momentum, and energy together with the equations describing a $\kappa-\epsilon$ model for turbulence. The model predicts heat transfer for different currents and arc lengths. Finally these calculation results can be used as a useful insight into plasma phenomena of the industrial-scale electric arc furnace. From these results, it can be concluded that higher arc current and longer arc length give high heat transfer.
This article presents a numerical and experimental investigation for the single-phase forced laminar convective heat transfer through arrays of micro-channels in micro heat exchangers to be used for cooling power-intensive semiconductor packages, especially the stacked multi-chip modules. In the numerical analysis, a parametric study was carried out for the parameters affecting the efficiency of heat transfer in the flow of coolants through parallel rectangular micro-channels. In the experimental study, the cooling performance of the micro heat exchanger was tested on prototypes of stacked multi-chip modules with difference channel dimensions. The simulation results and the experiment data were acceptably accordant within a wide range of design variations, suggesting the numerical procedure as a useful method for designing the cooling mechanism in stacked multi-chip packages and similar electronic applications.
The experimental study for the temperature uniformity on the wafer using liquid-vapor phase heat transfer mechanism is performed. For the experiment, the heater plate which is consist of stainless steel container, working fluid and electrical heater is designed, manufactured and tested at the range of 600 to $850^{\circ}C$. The results showed that the phase change type heater plate was much more uniform and stable temperature on the heater plate surface and wafer than the uniform heat flux type heater plate at the atmospheric condition. Also, the results of 300 mm outer diameter of heater plate showed that the same temperature uniformity compared with 230 mm.

A finite-difference method based on characteristic upwind flux difference splitting has been studied on the blowing effect on the wall heat transfer over blunt-bodies. As the blowing rates increased, the wall heat transfer rate decreased and the temperature gradient also decreased compared with no blowing case. The heat trasfer rate at Mach No. 20 was almost twice higher than that of Mach No. 15 at 50km altitude. The surface blowing can be an effective mechanism to reduce the surface heat transfer rate at hypersonic flight condition.
