In modern societies, people spend most of their time indoors and the temperature and humidity controlled by electrical appliances have a considerable effect on their emotions and health. However, improper operation of the artificial facilities frequently creates substances that are harmful to our body. The importance of controlling the natural humidity of interior materials has therefore attracted significant attention. This study was aimed at quantifying the hygroscopic property of some interior finishing wooden materials. Dried and heat-treated yellow poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera) lumbers, oriented strand board, and plywood were selected for this experiment. The moisture adsorption and desorption rates of wooden materials were measured (ISO 24353). Furthermore, the effects of morphological, physical and chemical factors, such as surface microstructure, roughness, and functional groups, on the hygroscopicity were evaluated. The results of this study should contribute to improved accuracy of hygroscopic-property assessments performed on wooden interior materials.

An air-conditioning system based on the chemical heat storage principle was considered. $H_2O$ was chosen as the reaction gas and the working fluid as well. Na$_2$S, CaCl$_2$, MnCl$_2$, BaCl$_2$, MgCl$_2$, Fe$_2$(SO$_4$)$_3$ and MnSO$_4$ were tested as the solid reactants by using Cahn pressure balance. Na$_2$S was superior to other salts in respect of high capability of absorption of water gas, 5 moles of $H_2O$ per unit mole of Na$_2$S, and adequate temperature of adsorption, $65^{\circ}C$ at 7torr, and of desorption, 13$0^{\circ}C$ at 76torr. Clausius-Clapeyron diagram of Na$_2$S was obtained via adsorption experiments at several vapor pressures of water gas. To enhance heat and mass transfer characteristics, usually below 1W/m K, of the reactor bed of general adsorption systems, expanded graphite block was adapted as the support of Na$_2$S salt. Expanded graphite blocks had thermal conductivity values of 20~80W/mK with respect to 100~400kg/㎥ of block bulk density. Permeability values of expanded graphite blocks were 10$^{-13}$ ~ 10$^{-14}$$m^2$ with respect to 100~300kg/㎥ of block bulk density showing highly decreasing values of permeability, below 10$^{-l4}$$m^2$, in the range of above 150kg/㎥ of block bulk density.y.
Red mud is formed as a waste during bauxite refining known as Bayer's process. Its main constituents are iron, aluminium, sodium and silica. The disposal of large quantities of wasted red mud causes a serious ecological problem. In this study, the red mud wasted from the bauxite refinery was studied for phosphate removal from aqueous solution according to activation methods. The influence of heat treatment, and neutralization with sea water and acid treatment level for the optimum conditions for phosphate removal have been determined. Heat treatment combined with acid treatment is most suitable for the removal of phosphate from aqueous solution. The optimal condition was activated with 1 N HCl solution after heating in $600^{\circ}C$ during 4 hours. Acid and heat treatment causes sodalite compounds which hinder the phosphate adsorption to leach out. The adsorption data obtained followed a first-order rate expression and fitted well with the Freundlich Isotherm well.
The purity of hydrogen finally purified in the hydrogen purification process system is greatly influenced by the uniformity of the purification temperature of the dry tower. A in-house code that can be easily used by field designers has been developed to predict the capacity of the appropriate heat source and the time to reach the temperature of the dry tower. A code was developed to predict unsteady heat transfer using Visual Basic for Applications. To verify the developed code, a grid independence test was performed, and finally, calculations were performed for two cases. In the first case, the time for the temperature of the heater jacket to reach 360℃ was about 1,400 seconds when the supply heat source was 1,000 W. And in the second case, the time for the temperature of the heater jacket to reach 360℃ was about 710 seconds when the supply heat source was 2,000 W. It was confirmed that the developed code well describes the actual test data of the regeneration process of adsorption and desorption, and it is judged that the code developed in the design process of various capacity systems will be effectively applied to the heat capacity calculation in the future.
Equilibrium, kinetics, and thermodynamics of adsorption of acid black 1 (AB1) by coal-based granular activated carbon (CGAC) were investigated with the adsorption variables of initial concentration of dye, contact time, temperature, and pH. The adsorption reaction of AB1 by activated carbon was caused by electrostatic attraction between the surface (H+) of activated carbon and the sulfite ions (SO3-) and nitrite ions (NO2-) possessed by AB1, and the degree of reaction was highest at pH 3 (97.7%). The isothermal data of AB1 were best fitted with Freundlich isotherm model. From the calculated separation factor (1/n) of Freundlich, it was confirmed that adsorption of AB1 by activated carbon could be very effective. The heat of adsorption in the Temkin model suggested a physical adsorption process (< 20 J mol-1). The kinetic experiment favored the pseudo second order model, and the equilibrium adsorption amount estimated from the model agreed to that given by the experiments (error < 9.73% ). Intraparticle diffusion was a rate controlling step in this adsorption process. From the activation energy and enthalpy change, it was confirmed that the adsorption reaction is an endothermic reaction proceeding with physical adsorption. The entropy change was positive because of an active reaction at the solid-liquid interface during adsorption of AB1 on the activated carbon surface. The free energy change indicated that the spontaneity of the adsorption reaction increased as the temperature increased.
Characteristics of adsorption equilibrium, kinetic and thermodynamic of aniline blue onto activated carbon from aqueous solution were investigated as function of initial concentration, contact time and temperature. Adsorption isotherm of aniline blue was analyzed by Langmuir, Freundlich, Redlich-Peterson, Temkin and Dubinin-Radushkevich models. Langmuir isotherm model fit better with isothermal data than other isotherm models. Estmated Langmuir separation factors ($R_L=0.036{\sim}0.068$) indicated that adsorption process of aniline blue by activated carbon could be an effective treatment method. Adsorption kinetic data were fitted to pseudo first order model, pseudo second order model and intraparticle diffusion models. The kinetic results showed that the adsorption of aniline blue onto activated carbon well followed pseudo second-order model. Adsorption mechanism was evaluated in two steps, film diffusion and intraparticle diffusion, by intraparticle diffusion model. Thermodynamic parameters such as Gibbs free energy, enthalpy and entropy for adsorption process were estimated. Enthalpy change (48.49 kJ/mol) indicated that this adsorption process was physical adsorption and endothermic. Since Gibbs free energy decreased with increasing temperature, the adsorption reaction became more spontaneously with increasing temperature. The isosteric heat of adsorption indicated that there is interaction between the adsorbent and the adsorbate because the energy heterogeneity of the adsorbent surface.
Adsorption characteristics of reactive red 120 (RR 120) dye by a coal-based granular activated carbon (CGAC) from an aqueous solution were investigated using the amount of activated carbon, pH, initial concentration, contact time and temperature as adsorption variables. Isotherm equilibrium relationship showed that Langmuir's equation fits better than that of Freundlich's equation. The adsorption mechanism was considered to be superior to the adsorption of monolayer with uniform energy distribution. From the evaluated Langmuir separation coefficients (RL = 0.181~0.644), it was found that this adsorption process belongs to an effective treatment area (RL = 0~1). The adsorption energy determined by Temkin's equation and Dubinin-Radushkevich's equation was E = 15.31~7.12 J/mol and B = 0.223~0.365 kJ/mol, respectively. The adsorption process showed the physical adsorption (E < 20 J/mol and B < 8 kJ/mol). The adsorption kinetics followed the pseudo first order model. The adsorption reaction of RR 120 dye on CGAC was found to increase spontaneously with increasing the temperature because the free energy change decreased with increasing the temperature. The enthalpy change (12.747 kJ/mol) indicated an endothermic reaction. The isosteric heat of adsorption (△Hx = 9.78~24.21 kJ/mol) for the adsorption reaction of RR 120 by CGAC was revealed to be the physical adsorption (△Hx < 80 kJ/mol).
The heat of desorption and the work function change induced by nitrogen adsorption on the slepped tungstein surface plants, W(210) and W(310), are measured using the Field Electron Emission Microscope(FEM). The adsoption sites are predicted from the Thermal Desortion Spectra(TDS). The wirk function change of both W(210) and W(310) planes increase as increasing the nitrogen dose and saturates at the nitrogen dose about 5 Langmuir to 0.29 eV and 0.20 eV respectively. We find three adsorption site on each plane for the low dose range. The TDS result shows that the intensity of $\alpha_1$ state on W(310) is much stronger than that of $\alpha_1$ state on W(210), and the direction of nitrogen dipole moment adsorbed on the sites correspond to $\alpha_1$ and $\beta_2$ state on W(210) and W(310) planes are in the opposite direction to that of the equivalent states on W(100) plane. From this observation we can predict the relative atomic position in the z-direction (perpendicular direction to the surface) of nitrogen molecules/atoms adsorbed on these sites.
The adsorption of the antimicrobial agents and their heat-resistance were investigated for the packaging film manufacture, wherein, the antimicrobial agents were adsorbed on a ceramic component. The naturally sourced antimicrobial agents were produced by methylotropic actinomycetes strains MO-16 and MO-17, extracted with ethylacetate. Antimicrobial action was stable to $121^{\circ}C$ and 1 atm. for 30 min., showing wide-ranging activity to the Gram(+) and the Gram(-) bacteria. Antimicrobial agents, adsorbed on ceramic Ce-1, retained activity to the Gram(+) and the Gram(-) species at $105^{\circ}C$ and $230^{\circ}C$ heat treatment, and methanol extracted antimicrobial agents from Ce-1 treated at $230^{\circ}C$ for 30min., retained activity to Gram(+) bacteria. In the presence of oxygen during the heat treatment process, antimicrobial agents adsorbed on ceramic Ce-1 showed antimicrobial activity to Gram(+) and the Gram(-) bacteria.

In this study, we studied the characteristics of ion exchange for treatment of HSS (heat stable salts) which cause performance reduction in CO2 gas capture amine solution using anion exchange resins. The optimum HSS removal efficiency, 96.1% was obtained when using strong base anion exchange resin SAR10 at dosage 0.05 g/mL, 316 K, pH 12 and the best resin regeneration efficiency, 78.8% was obtained using NaOH solution of 3 M at 316 K. The adsorption data were described well by the Freundlich model and the sorption intensity(n) was 2.0951 lying within the range of favorable adsorption. The adsorption selectivity coefficients were increased by increasing valences and size of ion and desorption selectivity coefficients showed a contradictory tendency to adsorption selectivity coefficients. By continuous HSS removal experiments, 13.3 BV of HSS contaminated solution was effectively treated and the optimum NaOH solution consumption was 5.2 BV to regenerate resins.
