The method of electrical discharge machining (EDM), one of the processing methods based on non-traditional manufacturing procedures, is gaining increased popularity, since it does not require cutting tools and allows machining involving hard, brittle, thin and complex geometry. Modern ED machinery is capable of machining geometrically complex or hard material components, that are precise and difficult-to-machine such as heat treated tool steels, composites, super alloys, ceramics, etc. This paper reports the results of an experimental investigation by Taguchi method carried out to study the effects of machining parameters on material surface roughness in electric discharge machining of SM45C. The work material was ED machined with graphite and copper electrodes by varying the pulsed current, voltage and pulse time. Investigations indicate that the surface roughness is strongly depend on pulsed current.
The objective of this research study is to investigate the optimal process parameters of electrical discharge machining (EDM) on SCM440 steel with copper as a tool electrode. The effect of various process parameters on machining performance is investigated in this study. Modern ED machinery is capable of machining geometrically complex or hard material components, that are precise and difficult-to-machine such as heat treated tool steels, composites, super alloys, ceramics, etc. This paper reports the results of an experimental investigation by Taguchi method carried out to study the effects of machining parameters on material surface roughness in electric discharge machining of SCM440 steel. To predict the optimal condition, the experiments are conducted by using Taguchi's L27 orthogonal array. The work material was ED machined with copper electrodes by varying the pulsed current, pulse on-time, voltage, servo speed and spark speed. Investigations indicate that the surface roughness is strongly depend on pulsed current.
In this paper, did numerical simulation to confirm LED module for lighting and protection against heat special quality of heat sink device. Analysis was gone dividing on case that emitting light side turns normalcy department considering that eat of device according to usage and case that turn down looking being street lamp of 200 W or security appointment lighting device analysis case, and also, volume of thermal element divides on big case and small case and analyzed. Confirmed that can do so that may discharge LED's thermal value to outside enough in analysis wave and current heat sink shape, and investigated that difference of protection against heat performance according to position of device and size of thermal element appears.
Cryogenic vessels are special equipment that requires periodic evaluation of their thermal insulation performance. At the current standard, the test is considered as the loss product or heat leakage of cryogenic vessel, which takes over 72 h to evaluate; consequently, a large amount of working medium is discharged to the environment in the process. However, hydrogen is flammable and explosive, and the discharged gas may be dangerous. If liquid hydrogen is replaced with liquid nitrogen before testing, the operation then becomes complicated, and the loss product or heat leakage cannot respond to the thermal insulation performance of cryogenic vessels for liquid hydrogen. Therefore, a novel method is proposed to evaluate the heat leakage of cryogenic vessels for liquid hydrogen in self-pressurization. In contrast to the current testing methods, the method proposed in this study does not require discharge or exchange of working medium in all test processes. The proposed method is based on one-dimensional heat transfer analysis of cryogenic vessels, which is verified by experiment. When this method is used to predict the heat leakage, the comparison with the experimental data of the standard method shows that the maximum error of heat leakage is less than 5.0%.

The discharge properties of super high-pressure mercury lamp are due to resistance heating for energy input, and results in temperature increase. The cooling equilibrium state is reached by the heat conduction, convection and radiation. In order to predict the fluid flow and heat transfer in and around the mercury lamp accurately, its visualization is of utmost importance. Such visualization is carried out by CFD program in this study. We focus on Anode shape to calculate four cases, namely AA, AB, AC and AD separately, and compare the temperature distribution and velocity vector in each case to predict cooling capacity and fluid flow properties. It can be concluded that the shape of anode plays an important role that affects the fluid flow and heat transfer in a mercury lamp.
The commercial activated carbons are typically prepared by activation from coconut shell char or coal char containing lots of inorganic impurities. They also have pore structure and pore size distribution depending on nanostructure of precursor materials. In this study, two types of commercial activated carbons were applied for EDLC electrode by removing impurities with acid treatments, and controlling pore size distribution and contents of functional group with heat treatment. The effect of the surface functional groups on electrochemical performance of the activated carbon electrodes was investigated. The initial gravimetric and volumetric capacitance of coconut based activated carbon electrode which was acid treated by $HNO_3$ and then heat treated at $800^{\circ}C$ were 90 F/g and 42 F/cc respectively showing 94% of charge-discharge efficiency. Such a good electrochemical performance can be possibly applied to the medium capacitance of EDLC.

Carbon materials have become a major interestings of research directed toward the development for anode of lithium batteries of enhanced cell capacity. The purpose of this study is to research and develop poly(p-phenylene)(PPP)-based carbon as a anode of lithium secondary batteries. We have synthesized PPP from benzen by chemical reaction. And then disordered carbon materials were obtained by heat-treating PPP in a nitrogen atmosphere at 40$0^{\circ}C$ to 100$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. The carbon prepared by heat treatment showed a broad x-ray diffraction peak around 2$\theta$=23$^{\circ}$. Electrodes were charged and discharged at a current density of 0.1㎃/$\textrm{cm}^2$. Excellent reversible capacity of 275㎃h/g and 97% of charge/discharge efficiency were observed heat treated PPP-based carbon a $700^{\circ}C$.
In this study, high-purity single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) were prepared by removing the unreacted metal constituents and amorphous carbon impurities using a post-annealing process. Unlike conventional thermal processing techniques, this technique involved different gas atmospheres for efficient removal of impurities. A heat treatment was conducted in the presence of chlorine, oxygen, and chlorine + oxygen gases. The nanotubes demonstrated the best characteristics, when the heat treatment was conducted in the presence of a mixture of chlorine and oxygen gases. The scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, ultraviolet absorbance, and sheet resistance measurements showed that the heat treatment process efficiently removed the unreacted metal and amorphous carbon impurities from the as-synthesized SWCNTs. The high-purity SWCNTs exhibited improved electrical conductivities. Such high-purity SWCNTs can be used in various carbon composites for improving the sensitivity of gas sensors.
The instrumentation and operating characteristics of a gas-jet assisted radio frequency glow discharge atomic absorption spectrometry(RF-GDAAS) are studied. The roles of discharge power, pressure as well as gas flow rate on the sample loss rate and absorbance are described in this paper. Results show that the optimum discharge conditions depend on pressure and discharge power as well as on the gas flow rate. The gas flow rate plays as an important parameter in RF-GDAAS. Absorbance increases as the gas flow rate increase up to 600ml/min., and the optimum absorbance is obtained at the pressure of 3 mbar. The absorbance increases when the discharge power increases as expected, however, the instability of the system due to the heat might be the trade off factor. The linear calibration curves of Ni and Cr in stainless steel(BAS 461-468) and brass (KSS 1121-1126) are obtained with RF-GDAAS.
Implant prototypes with various porosities were fabricated by electro-discharge-sintering of atomized spherical Ti-6Al-4V powders. Single pulse of 0.75 to 2.0 kJ/0.7 g-powder, using 150, 300, and $450{\mu}F$ capacitors was applied to produce a fully porous and porous surfaced implant compact. The solid core formed in the center of the compact after discharge was composed of acicular ${\alpha}+{\beta}$ grains and porous layer consisted of particles connected in three dimensions by necks. The solid core and neck sizes increased with an increase in input energy and capacitance. On the other hand, pore volume decreased with increased capacitance and input energy due to the formation of solid core. Capacitance and input energy are the only controllable discharge parameters even though the heat generated during a discharge is the unique parameter that determines the porosity of compact. It is known that electro-discharge-sintering of spherical Ti-6Al-4V powders can efficiently produce fully-porous and porous surfaced Ti-6Al-4V implants with various porosities in a short time less then 400 isec by manipulating the discharging condition such as input energy and capacitance including powder size.
