Previous research on healthcare workers’ protection has concentrated on liquid barrier protection by providing impermeable personal articles such as latex gloves. This property is of high importance but since most blood-borne pathogen transmissions in the healthcare industry are caused by needle-stick injuries, protection from sharp invasive instruments should also be of high concern. And since latex and alike provide no protection against needle-stick injuries, new protective systems need to be developed and evaluated. This part of the study provides a review regarding the current practice of protection and the serious problems that arise from needle-flick injuries. Additionally, the development of new protective system is described. In part II of the study, evaluation of the new system will be provided.

The construction of the health care facilities in terms of medical institutional source cost much and affect on management of another sources like, staffs for the health care delivery systems and the medical service For it is hard to amend and change the physical component of the facilities, the reasonability and the efficiency of the facilities should be the major considering point. Consequently, the purpose of this study is to represent the basic data for determining the size of general hospital by analyzing the use pattern of existing facilities and investigating annual use pattern and user's distance from the facilities.

In this paper, ECG based cardiac disease diagnosis models are developed. Conventionally, ECG monitoring equipments can only measure and store ECG signals and they always require medical doctor's diagnosis actions which are not desirable for continuous ambulatory monitoring and diagnosis healthcare systems. In this paper, two kinds of neural based self cardiac disease diagnosis engines are developed and tested for four kinds of diseases, sinus bradycardia, sinus tachycardia, left bundle branch block and right bundle branch block. For diagnosis engines, error backpropagation neural network (BP) and probabilistic neural network (PNN) were applied. Five signal features including heart rate, QRS interval, PR interval, QT interval, and T wave types were selected for diagnosis characteristics. To show the validity of proposed diagnosis engine, MIT-BIH database were used to test. Test results showed that BP based diagnosis engine has 71% of diagnosis accuracy which is superior to accuracy of PNN based diagnosis engine. However, PNN based diagnosis engine showed superior diagnosis accuracy for complex-disease diagnoses than BP based diagnosis engine.
Transmission of tuberculosis (TB) is a recognized risk to patients and healthcare workers in healthcare settings. The literature review suggests that implementation of combination control measures reduces the risk of TB transmission. Guidelines suggest a three-level hierarchy of controls including administrative, environmental, and respiratory protection. Among environmental controls, installation of ventilation systems is a priority because ventilation reduces the number of infectious particles in the air. Natural ventilation is cost-effective but depends on climatic conditions. Supplemented intervention such as air-cleaning methods including high efficiency particulate air filtration and ultraviolet germicidal irradiation should be considered in areas where adequate ventilation is difficult to achieve. Personal protective equipment including particulate respirators provides additional benefit when administrative and environmental controls cannot assure protection.

Contemporary electronic healthcare systems are getting more and more complex, providing users a broad functionality, but often fail to have accessible interfaces. However, the importance of a good interface is nearly as great as of the rest of the system. Development of an intuitive multimodal interface for a healthcare system is the goal of our research work. This paper discusses data model of the interface.

This study is about the Spatial Composition and Area Distribution in the Urban Health Centers. The purpose of this study is to suggest the basic direction of urban health center plans which has urban characters according to the changes of public health systems and environments. The methods of this research was executed by surveys of documents and plans and field observations. The targets of this study are public health centers that have been constructed since 2000 and are constructing until now and investigated this facilities.

The air ventilation system of operation rooms has been studied to prevent the cross infection during the operation. Operation rooms and air ventilation systems of three University hospitals were investigated. The distribution of microbe was measured by cultivating air samples in the operation room. A two-dimensional model for the cross-section of an operation room was developed for the CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis. The characteristics of air flow in the empty operation room and in occupied operation room were calculated by using a CFD program. The current diffuser location of an old hospital did not deliver the clean air to the operation part efficiently. A new method to locate diffusers that improve air venting with little increase of the cost of equipment was suggested.

Wireless sensor networks have taken immense interest in healthcare systems in recent years. One example of it is in an in vivo sensor that is deployed in critical and sensitive healthcare applications like artificial retina, cardiac pacemaker, drug delivery, blood pressure, internal heat calculation, glucosemonitoring etc. In vivo sensor nodes exhibit temperature that may be very dangerous for human tissues. However, existing in vivo thermal aware routing approaches suffer from hotspot creation, delay, and computational complexity. These limitations motivate us toward an in vivo virtual backbone, a small subset of nodes, connected to all other nodes and involved in routing of all nodes, -based solution. A virtual backbone is lightweight and its fault-tolerant version allows in vivo sensor nodes to disconnect hotspot paths and to use alternative paths. We have formulated the problem as m-connected k-dominating set problem with minimum temperature cost in in vivo sensor network. This is a combinatorial optimization problem and we have been motivated to use evolutionary approach to solve the problem.

Unlike that of most management science methodologies, the focus in systems thinking is not on \\\"solving\\\" problems or seeking an optimal solution. Conventional problem solving does not explicitly consider the context of the problem. This implies that the \\\"hospital financial management problem\\\" could be neatly isolated from its environmental and external factors. System thinking and system archetypes, in contrast, acknowledges the messiness of the world and views a problem in the context of its environment. This is one reason why qualitative variables play an important role in system thinking, as these variables represent conditions or phenomena that cannot be measured or accounted in a strictly quantitative approaches. In this paper we present specific healthcare system archetypes which consider such external influences in the healthcare industry in Australia and observe their behavior over time. behavior over time.
Recently, Healthcare system has not been standardized and has been developed as an embedded system lacking interoperability. We are finally going to face such problems as having excessive load in using network caused by the uncontrolled spread of system and un-guaranteed interoperability among the heterogenous systems. We suggest the possibility that OSGi (Open Service Gateway initiative : the international standardization of service middleware) can be accepted as a solution for the above problems.
