Objective: The purpose of this study were to: (1) describe the individual characteristics, perceived health status, body image, and health promoting behaviors of staff nurses working in a metropolitan hospital and (2) determine the relationship of perceived health status, body image, and health promoting behaviors. Methods: Data were collected from 311 staff nurses working at one of university affiliated hospitals using a self-administered questionnaire for perceived health status(SF 36 V2), body image(BAQ), and health promoting behaviors (HPLP-II) and using the report of year 2002 employee physical check-up results for health related characteristics. Results: Most of nurses were within the normal range of BMI, total cholesterol, and liver enzymes but 42.2% had systolic BP above 120mmHg and 37.3% hemoglobin below 12g/dL. Although 96.4% of BMI score indicated 'underweight' or 'normal', 'feeling fat' showed the highest. Among health promoting behaviors the most frequently reported one was spiritual growth and the least one was engagement in physical activity. In the correlational analysis, health promoting behaviors had the positive relationships with perceived health status, vitality, mental health, attractiveness, strength and fitness (p=.000 - .004). Conclusion: These findings provide information that is relevant in designing interventions to enhance health promoting behaviors among nurses working in a hospital.
This study was conducted to compare the practice of health promoting behaviors between hospital workers and government officers. The subjects for this study were consisted of 344 hospital workers in four university hospitals and 340 government officers in four district offices in the Kyong-in area. Data were collected by using constructed questionnaires from January to February in 1997 and analyzed by Chi-square test, t-test. ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression. The results were as follows : 1. There was no significant difference between hospital workers and government officers in practice of health promoting behaviors as a whole. but among five domains of the health promoting behaviors, hospital workers was significantly higher than that of government officer in the domain of health responsibility, while they were significantly lower than those of government officer in the domain of exercise & nutrition and stress management. The mean score of health promoting behavior for hospital workers and government officer were 2.40, and 2.47, respectively. The health promoting behavior in relation to the characteristics of the hospital workers varied significantly according to sex and age. The domain of self-actualization ranked highest in health promoting behaviors of hospital workers, interpersonal support came next. stress management, health responsibility and exercise & nutrition followed them. While those of government officers. the domain of self-actualization ranked highest. interpersonal support came next, stress management, exercise & nutrition and health responsibility followed them. 2. There were no significant difference between hospital workers and government officers in the health perception with mean score of 3.32 and 3.34 respectively, in the self esteem with mean score of 2.82 and 2.84 respectively, in the self-efficacy with mean score of 70.50 and 72.35 respectively. in the internal health locus of control with mean score of 2.95 and 3.03, respectively, m the chance health locus of control with mean score of 2.10 and 2.13, respectively, m the powerful others health locus of control with mean score of 2.39 and 2.46, respectively. 3. The practice of health promoting behavior of hospital workers were strongly associated with self-esteem and self-efficacy, and self-esteem was strongly correlated with self-efficacy. And the practice of health promoting behavior of government officers were strongly associated with self-esteem, powerful others health locus of control and internal health locus of control. and self-esteem was strongly correlated with self-efficacy. 4. The combination of self-esteem, powerful others health locus of control. health perception. self-efficacy. internal health locus of control. age and marital status explained $45.7\%$ of variance of likelihood to engage in health promoting behavior of hospital workers. And the combination of self-esteem. powerful others health locus of control. health perception. self-efficacy. internal health locus of control. sex and marital status explained $48.2\%$ of variance of likelihood to engage in health promoting behavior of government officers.
Purpose of the study was to identify the relationship between job stress and health promoting behavior(HPB) among nurses. Samples were 426 nurses working in some university hospitals which were chosen by convenient sampling. Data was collected by using constructed questionnaires from March 28th to April 7th 2001. The instruments used for in the study were 'The Health Promotion Behavior' which was developed by Park(1995) and 'The Job Stress' modified by Kim(1998). The data was analyzed by mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Duncan test and Pearson's correlation coefficient in the SPSS program. The results were as follows : 1. The mean score of job stress was 3.51 which is meant to be 'more than moderate' level of stress. 2. The total mean score of health promoting behavior was 2.44; 'Management of Sanitary life' 3.12, 'Harmonious relation-ships' 2.95, 'Emotional support' 2.71, 'Diet control' 2.59, 'Self-achievement' 2.57, 'Self-control' 2.31, 'Healthy diet' 2.29, 'Rest and sleep' 2.26, 'Exercise and activity' 2.12, 'Regular diet' 1.91 and 'Professional health maintenance' 1.61 were shown in each HPB category. 3. There were not any statistical differences between job stress and general characteristics of nurses. 4. The health promoting behavior was significantly influenced by factors of age, marital status, education level, religion, position, career and family income of nurses. 5. There was not any correlations between job stress and health promoting behavior.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine whether Selection, Optimization and Compensation (SOC) Strategy mediated the relationship between job stress and health promoting behaviors among nurses. Methods: A descriptive causal relationship research design was used. 245 subjects recruited from the five general hospitals, which have over 500 beds in Seoul and Kyunggi-do, participated in the study by completing a survey which included questions about SOC strategy, job stress and health promoting behaviors. t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression were used to analyze the data. SPSS/WIN 20.0 was used for all analysis. Results: The mean job stress score was 47.89; mean SOC strategy score was .71. 'Spiritual development' was the highest reported health promoting behavior with a mean of 3.57. Job stress was significantly and negatively related to health promoting behaviors. The result showed that all the mediating paths of SOC strategy were significant. The partial mediating model showed high goodness of fit demonstrating that the model was outstanding. Conclusion: SOC strategy mediated the relationship between job stress and health promoting behaviors. Applying better SOC strategies among nurses will increase flexibility in responding to job stress and will also better perform health promoting behaviors.
Purpose: This study was designed to assess the degree of Yangsaeng (oriental health care regimen) and happiness of nurses who work in small and medium-sized of hospitals and to identify correlations of between variables in Korea. Methods: Participants were 131 nurses in hospitals in Seoul and Gyeonggido. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, multiple regression and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$. Results: Mean scores were 2.99 (5 point scale) for Yangsaeng and 4.64 (7 point scale) for happiness. Yangseang positively correlated with happiness (r=.463, p<.001). Job satisfaction was a significantly correlated with Yangsaeng and happiness. Yangsaeng, job satisfaction and age explained 28.0% of happiness. Conclusion: We found Yangsaeng could improve happiness. Therefore, Yangsaeng could be recommended as a way of promoting health and happiness.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare and contrast health promoting behaviors, mental health, and quality of life between shift nurses and non-shift nurses and to evaluate factors influencing their quality of life. Method: Data were collected by questionnaires from 113 non-shift nurses and 265 shift nurses who had been working at one of five hospitals in Incheon for more than one year. Descriptive statistics, ANCOVA, logistic regression, and multiple regression were used in performance of data analysis. Results: For shift nurses' mean total scores for health promoting behaviors and quality of life were significantly lower than those for non-shift nurses'(p<.05). Result of logistic regression analyses indicated that marital status (OR=2.092, 95%CI=1.174-3.729) and quality of life (OR=3.397, 95%CI=1.694-6.812) were significant between shift nurses and non-shift nurses. Non-shift work, low stress, provision of health-welfare programs, high score for health promoting behavior, and good mental health status showed an association with better quality of life (explained 48.3% of variance). Conclusion: Educational, policy, and regulatory approaches are required in order to improve mental health and quality of life for nurses, which may be influenced by their unhealthy behaviors such as irregular dietary patterns, while provision of counseling programs may be helpful to enhancement of nurses' mental health.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify degrees of fatigue and influencing factors for fatigue in cancer patients. Method: Data was collected by questionnaires from 115 cancer patients at 3 hospitals in Seoul. The research instruments utilized in this study were fatigue, physical symptoms, depression, family support, and health promoting behaviors. Data was analyzed using the pearson correlation, t-test, ANOVA, and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 12.0. Result: The mean score of fatigue for cancer patients was 12.90(range: 6-36). Fatigue for cancer patients according to age group and weight change showed a significant difference. Fatigue for cancer patients showed a significantly positive correlation to physical symptoms and depression. There was a negative correlation between family support and health promoting behaviors. The significant factors influencing fatigue for cancer patients were physical symptoms, health promoting behaviors, depression, and age group, which explained about 45.9%. Conclusion: The results suggest that symptoms and depression management, nursing interventions and practices for providing health promoting behaviors according to age are needed to manage the fatigue in cancer patients.

This study aimed to confirm the effect of social support, self-efficacy, and job stress of clinical nurses on health promoting behaviors. The subjects of this study were 345 clinical nurses with more than 6 months of experience working at three general hospitals located in G city. Collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 26.0 program. As a result, the prediction factors influencing health promoting behaviors were social support(𝛽=.36, p<.001), self-efficacy(𝛽=.35, p<.001), job stress(𝛽=-.09, p=.018), having breakfast four times a week or more(𝛽=.20, p<.001), and perceived health status is good(𝛽=.20, p=.001) or average(𝛽=.20, p<.001). And the explanatory power on health promoting behaviors from these variables was 49%(F=26.57, p<.001). Therefore, it is necessary to reflect programs and policies to improve the health promoting behaviors of clinical nurses.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between sleep disorders, job satisfaction, health promotion behavior, quality of life, turnover intention. And also to find the predicting factors on turnover intention of shift and non-shift nurses. A descriptive study design was used. Study subjects were 239 nurses worked as a shift (167) and non-shift (72) in two general hospitals in P city. Turnover Intent, Sleep disorders, Job satisfaction, practicing health promotion profile and quality of life scales were used to collect the data. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and Pearson's correlation coefficient for find the relationship between study variables. Stepwise multiple regressions used to find predicting factors of turnover intention with other variables. The shift group showed lower Job satisfaction, practice of health promotion behavior and intention of turnover than non-shift nurses. The most important predictive factors of turnover intention in of shift group was job satisfaction (β =-. 477, p <.001) and non-shift group was health promotion behavior (β =-. 295, p = .040) than other factors. Findings showed that turnover intention highly influenced by job satisfaction than health promoting behavior and quality of life. This study suggests organizational efforts to provide sufficient staffing and nurse managersshould make more concentration to allot work schedule in order to avoid over load shift nurses and promote quality of client care.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a comprehensive self-management program promoting self efficacy for Type 2 diabetic patients. Methods: The study was a methodological research design in which previous related research was reviewed to develop the comprehensive self-management program promoting self efficacy using self efficacy theory. Results: Comprehensive self-management programs promoting self efficacy included the whole range of eight self-management domains: diet, exercise, medication, self-testing of blood glucose, complication or foot, stress, time, and general health, and consisted of four sources of self efficacy: enactive mastery experience, vicarious experience, verbal persuasion, and physiological and affective states, as strategies to promote self efficacy. Developmental methods included, in addition to large and small group education, individual education or counseling, and telephone counseling. Conclusion: Further studies are needed in community health centers or hospitals to establish the effects on self-management compliance and glycemic control of the comprehensive self-management program promoting self efficacy.
