The percentage spent on their medical service showed that 73.0% of those directors spent more than 90% on their medical service. Based on their general service attitiude, 0% answered that the director of the health subcenter completes the given duties as the director, and 24.5% did that the director has the sense of responsibility and duty. Multiple answers concerning inconvenience and difficulties of the health subcenter director showed that less monthly salary accounted for 75.5%, no administrative power for 50.0%, insufficient medical instruments for 35.5%, insufficient budget for 30.0%, respect. In conclusion, in order for the health subcenter to meet the function as the primary medical clinic, it is required to arange the plans to inspire the public health doctors' service desire to that they can give the medical service as good as the private primary medical clinics, to convert existing concept of the public health doctors' placement in Myon administrative district into new concept in Gun by breaking from a uniform placement, and to consider an intensive placement according to the relevant projects so that preventive health activities can be planned and carried out.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to analyze representative topics and topic trends of papers in Korean Society and Health Service Management(KSHSM) Journal. Methods : We collected English abstracts and key words of 516 papers in KSHSM Journal from 2007 to 2017. We utilized Python web scraping programs for collecting the papers from Korea Citation Index web site, and RStudio software for topic analysis based on latent Dirichlet allocation algorithm. Results : 9 topics were decided as the best number of topics by perplexity analysis and the resultant 9 topics for all the papers were extracted using Gibbs sampling method. We could refine 9 topics to 5 topics by deep consideration of meanings of each topics and analysis of intertopic distance map. In topic trends analysis from 2007 to 2017, we could verify 'Health Management' and 'Hospital Service' were two representative topics, and 'Hospital Service' was prevalent topic by 2011, but the ratio of the two topics became to be similar from 2012. Conclusions : We discovered 5 topics were the best number of topics and the topic trends reflected the main issues of KSHSM Journal, such as name revision of the society in 2012.
Objectives : This study aims to : (i) characterize and differentiate between two different periods of baby boomers, (ii) study the utilization of their health care services, and (iii) establish effective ways of providing better health service utilization and preventive policy strategies for upcoming and older generations. Methods : A multiple regression analysis using descriptive statistics, frequency analysis, and dummy variables was utilized to access the presence of correlations between socio-demographic factors and health care service utilization. Results : Medical insurance type, marital status, and chronic disease were factors that influenced health care service utilization. Furthermore, the factors that influenced individual medical expenses were cohabitation, inpatient days, and chronic disease. Conclusions : Primary findings and exploratory statistics revealed that there were strong correlations and interaction among some of the predictor variables. Because of the chronologically limited nature of the sample data set gathered in 2012, it would be helpful to continue to develop or research related constructs that may capture relationships more effectively among extended populations.
The emergency medical service system in Korea was built upon the Emergency Medical Service Act, 1995 to respond adequately to be much in demand for emergency medical services. In addition, the government recognized the importance of the trauma care system and set out to plan for the designation and establishment of the regional trauma center by 2012. This study aimed to investigate features of quality management and trauma fee schedule on better understanding of trauma care system. First, quality management of the regional trauma center has been implemented by several quality programs involved in quality assessment, committee on trauma quality management, and mortality and morbidity conference. Second, the trauma fee schedule has reflected a specific quality of severe traumatic conditions and added the result to it, which are graded A, B, and C according to quality assessment. Although the government has contributed to instituting a trauma quality assessment program and trauma fee schedule for the regional trauma center, it could not lead to such a fixed standard for quality management of them. Therefore, it will promote discussion on the sustainability of the regional trauma center that requires reducing preventable trauma death rate and the way to apply comprehensive quality management.

Background: The use of therapeutic materials based on new health technology has increased in recent years in the field of medicine, raising concerns for medical practitioners regarding increased spending on the new therapeutic materials amid the rapid population ageing and increase of chronic diseases in Korea. While therapeutic materials have significant importance in the health care system, they have not been given appropriate attention in the academic world of Korea. The purpose of this study is to identify factors that affect the growth of expenditure on therapeutic materials and to derive implications for an effective management considering the diversity of therapeutic materials. Methods: Using the claims data of the National Health Insurance Services, specific utilization patterns of groups of therapeutic materials in the middle classification level of Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service from 2007 to 2014 were analyzed. Four categories (J5083: drug eluting coronary stent, D0302: nonmetallic anchor, K6014: gauze, K6023: gauze) that exhibit unique patterns with respect to price and volume were selected. Then, decomposition analysis was performed to identify the largest contributor to the spending growth by dividing the products into existing, new, and abandoned products for the period between 2010 and 2013. Results: The effect of new products had larger impact on spending growth than the effect of core items in drug eluting coronary stent (J5083) and nonmetallic anchor (D0302). In addition, existing products in general included items priced relatively lower when compared with another item manufactured by the same company. In the gauze category, however, existing products had the largest impact on expenditure and the effect of volume was greater than that in other categories. Conclusion: This study provides evidence that appropriate management measures classified by the characteristics of therapeutic materials are required for therapeutic materials pricing and reassessment in Korea.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to analyze factors affecting the performance of public hospitals in South Korea. Methods : We collected management performance data from 2013 to 2015 from income statements, balance sheets, and annual reports from 32 local public hospitals. The dependent variable used was profitability, which included operating margin, return on assets and net profit to gross revenues. The independent variables were general characteristics, liquidity, stability, and activity. Results : Patient revenues, total assets, and total capital had increased steadily but patient expenses had increased to a greater extent. Operating profit, and net profit were consistently in deficits and the management status of local public hospitals had recently been in difficulty. The debt ratio, quick ratio, ratio of fixed liability and fixed assets turnover rate have a significant positive(+) effect on performance in the years 2013-2015. Conclusions : We suggest management strategies for these hospitals based on the results analyzed.
