Purpose: The objective of this study is to investigate the knowledge and attitude on the contraception and induced abortion in female high school students for providing the fundamental data in developing a practical sexuality education program for the healthy conception and childbirth in female high school students who are in the child-bearing age. Also, this study provides some foundational data for developing prevention education, counsel, and nursing intervention programs. Methods: Data were collected from 270 high school girls by self-report questionnaires from August 1, to September 31, 2010. Data was analyzed by percentage and Pearson correlation coefficient using SPSS/WIN 17.0. Results: The correct rate of contraception and induced abortion were 43.3% and 48.8% respectively. Participants had a moderate attitude toward contraception and a permissive attitude toward induced abortion. Participants who had high score and home sex education were higher correct rate than any other. Conclusion: This study indicates that efforts should be made to provide education on contraception and induced abortion to high school girls to increase awareness. Also, educational programs should be designed to improve knowledge as well as promote a more positive attitude toward contraception and induced abortion.

This study aims to examine the structural relationship between consumers' health-related lifestyle. purchasing attitude and purchase intention in the rice-based bakery products market. Data were collected from 397 consumers in their 20 years old and more. Results showed that purchasing attitude positively affected nutrition, trends and taste, and it was a key variable in explaining the intention to purchase rice-based bakery products. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and cultivate rice flour varieties containing various nutrients and develop products by capturing the food trends among consumers to induce them to purchase rice-based bakery products. Purchasing attitude fully mediated the relationship between taste and purchase intention, which suggests that it is necessary to hold tasting or sampling events and carry out promotional activities for consumers to perceive that rice-based bakery products taste good, which may lead to positive purchasing attitude.
The objective of this study were to identify the state of re. cognition and attitude of residents in Seoul city about air environment and to identify factors affecting attitude toward air environment. Study object was residents in Seoul city sampled by multistage random proportional sampling. Sample size was 0.0067%(500 persons) of total residents in Seoul city. The results were divided into two parts: (1) descriptive results of recognition and attitude toward air environment, (2) results of factor analysis to classify categories of attitudes toward air environment and regression analysis to identify factors affecting attitude toward air environment. Most of resident in Seoul city recognized that air environment in Seoul city was highly polluted and was not satisfactory. Experience of damage of air pollution was reported in about 70% of residents in Seoul city. More than 60% of residents in Seoul city had concern about air environment. Attitude toward air environment were classified into four categories using factor analysis: Necessity of intervention of local government for air environment conservation, Participation of residents and enterprises for air environment conservation, Optimistic attitude about air pollution, Preference of economy. Factors affecting the above attitudes were knowledge about air pollution, knowledge about policies and institutions related air environment conservation, concern about air environment, educational level, subjective assessment of air environment, sex, marital status. In conclusion this study suggested providing information of air environment in Seoul city to the residents and to educating residents for making positive attitude about air environment conservation.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the discriminant factors of attitude pattern toward sexual violence of college women. Methods: A cross-sectional research design with non-probability samples was conducted. A total of 292 college women participated. The instruments were Attitude Pattern toward Sexual Violence, Self-Esteem Scale, Gender Role Scale, and Attitude toward Sexuality. Dependent variable is Attitude Pattern toward Sexual Violence, which is composed of two groups; cases either harmer blame or sufferer blame. Independent variables were self-esteem, attitude toward gender role, and attitude toward sexuality. Data were analyzed by SPSS WIN program and descriptive analysis, $x^2$-test, and discriminant analysis. Results: To assess the adequacy of classification, the overall hit ratio was 68.5%, and the significant predictor variable was attitude toward sexuality. Conclusion: Replication of the study needs to be considered to further enrich the specific knowledge base regarding attitude toward sexual violence among college women.
Objectives : The study examined the correlation the between smoking and the actual smoking condition, knowledge, attitude and practice on the dental health of korean soldiers. Methods: The data was collected from a questionnaire given to 301 soldiers at two separate units in Kangwon-DO. Results : Soldiers dependance on nicotine according to the smoking frequence showed positive correlation(p<0.001). The respondents who had bad breath and bleeding gum had smoked for a relative correlation with how long they had smoked. Among the content of the dental health care program that respondents wished to undergo, dental whitening was the most attractive topic(37.9%) and decayed teeth was the most important part in dental health care(25.2%). The correlation coefficient between the dependancy on nicotine the less effort they made to improve their dental health(p<.05). Conclusion : The study suggest that antismoking campaigns should be include in military dental health care programs. Furthermore, the development of dental health care programs considering the needs of each military unit is basic for practice on dental health care between Korean soldiers.
Objectives: This study aims to investigate the attitude toward smoking and knowledge on smoking, self-efficacy, and self-esteem among high school students, and examine the moderate effects of gender on the differences in those variables between smoking and non-smoking students. As the result of investigation, it would suggest useful information for those who want to provide interventions of smoking prevention and smoking cessation to adolescents. Methods: Participants were 1,117 high school students (511 males, 584 females), whose mean age was 16.38 (SD=.87). To identify whether participants were smoking or not, bogus-pipeline was used. The data was collected with questionnaire include Smoking Attitude Inventory, General Self-Efficacy Scale, and Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale. A Pearson chi-square test and 2-way MANOVAs were performed with SPSS 11.5 for Windows. Results: With bogus-pipeline, one hundred thirty five (26.0%) of male students and 125(21.4%) of female students reported as they were smoking, while 115(22.2%) of male students and 78(13.3%) of female students reported as they were smoking at unidentified survey which was performed one week before bogus-pipeline. Results revealed that students who smoked had more positive attitude toward smoking and more knowledge on smoking than those who didn't smoke. Difference in knowledge on smoking between smoking and non-smoking students only existed in female students. Female students who smoked had lower self-esteem than female students who didn't smoke, but this difference didn't exist in male students. Conclusion: With the results of this study, it is considered smoking rates of adolescents surveyed with unidentified self-report questionnaires as underestimated. Health practitioners might consider female smokers' attitude toward and knowledge on smoking and self-esteem, especially for high school students. Despite of limitation of this study, it might help those who want to prevent initiation of smoking and give up smoking in adolescence.
Purpose: As health care needs for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) are becoming increasingly important, it has become imperative for the nurses to be attentive towards their health problems and provide nursing care with an open-minded attitude. Due to limited opportunity to provide direct nursing care to LGBT patients, it is hypothesized that simulation would provide good opportunity for students to experience LGBT nursing care in a safe environment. This study was conducted to develop and apply simulation of LGBT nursing care to ultimately provide unbiased nursing care for LGBT population and prepare basic data for LGBT nursing education. Methods: This study was a single-group pre-post experimental design study for 57 senior nursing students based on the comparison of existing LGBT knowledge, general attitude towards LGBT, and nursing attitude towards LGBT before and after simulation. The scenario content included discussion of coming out issue, providing sexual health information, and supportive nursing care for LGBT population. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics and Wilcoxon signed rank. Results: Simulation education-led to a significant increase in LGBT knowledge and nursing attitude. However, there was no change in the general attitude towards LGBT. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that LGBT education using simulation may be effective for nursing students and nurses from the point of concern for LGBT population. It is hypothesized that future LGBT educational programs might need more detailed information from both care recipients and nurses. Finally, LGBT education needs to be included in the nursing education curriculum.
This study aimed to assess the level of food safety knowledge, attitude and practices (KAP) among 500 Food handlers of hospitals in Korea and to explore the association between their knowledge, attitude and practices (KAP) and the socio-demographic characteristics. Self-reported questionnaire contains 50 questions: 15 for knowledge, 15 for attitude, and 20 for practice on food safety. The results showed that the overall mean of the knowledge score is 3.25, attitude 3.65, and practice 3.36 respectively. There was a significant difference between the mean score for knowledge, practice and overall KAP in three aged groups. Also, the overall KAP scores were significantly (p < 0.05) affected by the education level, where the average scores increased with the level of education. Public health preventive education and program should be provided to the food handlers in order to minimize foodborne hazards.
Purpose: This study was to determine how attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control (PBC) were related to parents' intentions to vaccinate their sons in elementary school against human papillomavirus (HPV), applying the updated theory of planned behavior. Two hypotheses were examined: PBC would moderate the relationship of attitude to intention and subjective norm to intention, respectively. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study with 231 participants recruited in November, 2018. Inclusion criteria for the participants were parents with 5th-6th grade boys in elementary schools. The moderation effects of the hypotheses were analyzed using the PROCESS macro for SPSS. Results: PBC significantly moderated the relationship of attitude to intention on HPV vaccination. The simple effect of attitude to intention was significant under three different levels of the PBC (low, moderate, and high), but the magnitudes of the relationships were not homogeneous. The magnitude of the relationship between attitude and intention was the lowest for the parents with the low level of the PBC. In the relationship of subjective norm to intention on HPV vaccination, the moderating effect of the PBC was not supported. Subjective norm and PBC directly predicted the intention on HPV vaccination. Conclusion: In order to promote the parents' intentions to vaccinate their sons in elementary school against HPV, we need a program that can improve parents' attitude, subjective norm, and PBC, requiring special attention to the parents with the low PBC.
Objective : To determine the relationships between customer's attitude, the subjective norm and the intention to use hospital-based health promotion services. Methods : This study was based on the theory of reasoned action, suggested by Fishbein and Ajzen. The subjects of this study were 501 residents of Seoul, Bun-dang, Il-san and Pyung-chon city, under 65 years, who were stratified by sex and age. A covariance structural analysis was used to identify the structural relationships between attitude towards health promotion programs or services, their subjective norm and their intention to use the aforementioned services. Results : The subjective norm for using the health promotion programs or services provided by hospitals was a significant predictor of the intention to use, but the attitude towards the services was not significant Conclusions : Our results suggest that a customer's reference group affects their use of the hospital-based health promotion services. Because the subjects of this study were restricted to specific urban areas, there are limitations to generalizing the study results. Despite the limitations of these results, they can serve as baseline information for the understanding of consumers behavior toward hospital-based health promotion services.
