Purpose: Diabetic foot ulcers are closely related to body surface heat, which can be affected easily by temperature differences. This study examined the correlation between the healing process of diabetic wounds and abnormal diurnal temperature through an animal study. Materials and Methods: Rats in the abnormal diurnal temperature group and control group were given a 10 mm sized full-thickness skin ulcer. Wound size progression was observed in both groups. H&E and Masson's trichrome staining was performed at 14 days after wound formation, and the number of vessels per unit area and histology analysis were performed. The changes in the ulcer were measured through three dimensional cross-section area using INSIGHT® devices. Results: The wound recovery period (granulation ingrowing) was 24 days in the abnormal diurnal temperature model and 20 days in the control group. The thickness of scar tissue was 402±23.19 ㎛ in the control group and 424.5±36.94 ㎛ in the diurnal temperature model. Neovascular formation was counted as 5.1±0.97 for the control group and 4.16±0.94 for the diurnal temperature model group. Conclusion: Delayed and inferior diabetic wound healing was observed in the abnormal diurnal temperature group, which was characterized by greater diurnal variations than the typical growth environment.
This study was performed to assess the effects of exogenous collagen gel for the re-epithelialization of partial thickness skin wound healing in rabbits. Adult male rabbits (New Zealand White Rabbit) 1.5~2 kg, were used for experimental animals. Skin wounds (1.5$\times$2 cm length) were created bilaterally on the flank of 10 rabbits and then treated a periods of 9 days. Wounds on the experimental site were treated with exogenous collagen gel as well as fabric material gauze dressing. Control site wounds were covered with fabric material gauze dressing alone. Histological findings indicated that the epithelial migration of the experimental site of rabbits was far more rapid than that in the other control wound sites. Moreover, exogenous collagen gel provided a moist environment to keep wound clean, and facilitate keratinocyte proliferation. The wound dressed with exogenous collagen gel demonstrated a significant increase in the healing rate and re-epithelialization.
Herein, we report polyvinyl butyral composites coatings containing various loadings of 72-h bath sonicated hexagonal boron nitride particles (5 ㎛) to enhance barrier properties of coatings. Barrier properties of coatings were determined in 3.5 wt% NaCl after different time periods of immersion via electrochemical techniques such as open circuit potential, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and potentiodynamic polarization test. Coatings containing sonicated hexagonal boron particles exhibited improved corrosion resistance for longer periods of immersion compared to neat coating. We also discussed effects of hexagonal boron nitride on healing properties of polyvinyl butyral. Coatings containing 1.0 wt% loading of sonicated hexagonal boron nitride showed improved long-term barrier properties than coatings with other compositions. The presence of hexagonal boron nitride also affected the healing properties of polyvinyl butyral coatings besides their barrier properties. Such improved barrier properties of composites coatings were attributed to the high aspect ratio, plate-like shape, and electrically insulated nature of the filler.

This study was conducted to examine the components of phytoncide from a pine forest in the southern temperate zone. Recent studies have found that a large amount of phytoncide is released not only from cypress trees but also from pine trees. Because the amount released is the highest during summer, we selected a warm climate region in the southern temperate zone and measured the concentration in the month of August. To capture the phytoncide from the forest atmosphere, we used the adsorption tube method with a mini pump and successfully gathered 9 L of forest air at a flow rate of 150 mL/min. We performed duplicate sampling from two different tubes installed at the same location and derived the mean value. A gas chromatography/mass spectrometer detector with thermal desorption spectroscopy was utilized to perform quantitative and qualitative analyses of the captured material. The results showed that the average phytoncide particle of the pine forest in the southern temperate zone contained a number of components as follows in descending order: ${\alpha}$-Pinene (39%, $0.28ng/m^3$), followed by ${\beta}$-Pinene (16%, $0.11ng/m^3$), D-Limonene (8%, $0.06ng/m^3$), camphor (6%, $0.04ng/m^3$), camphene (6%, $0.04ng/m^3$), and p-Cymene (5%, $0.04ng/m^3$). There were also 13 additional phytoncide components in trace amounts. The results of this study are expected to provide a useful dataset for building a "Healing-forest".

Currently, many countries have an interest in developing cosmetics materials using native plants. In this aspect, there is increasing need to develop cosmetics materials using native plants in our county. In the present study, calluses were induced from Artemisia annua Linne, which was highlighted because of its useful effects, such as anti-cancer, anti-fungal and anti-inflammation. Water and ethanol extractions were performed from the calluses of Artemisia annua Linne. After the mass production of Artemisia annua Linne's calluses, water and ethanol extraction was performed to examine its functional roles in healing wounds and inflammation. The differences in the effective elements were observed in the ethanol extract. The callus showed anti-inflammation activity through the suppression of the inflammation-related gene, COX-2, and ethanol extracts showed their ability to heal wounds. Overall, these results suggest that the extract of Artemisia annua Linne's calluses is a natural and environment-friendly material, and can be used as medical supplies associated with anti-inflammation and healing wounds.

This paper presents a landscape design proposal for the Kyeongsang National University Hospital in Changwon, Kyeongsangnam-do. The site is located at 555 Samjeongja-dong, Seongsan-gu, Changwon, Kyeongsangnam-do, and its area is approximately $79,743.1m^2$. The goal of the design was to create a landscape that helps the patients' recovery and public well-being as well as respects the surrounding environment. In order to achieve this goal, three design subjects were considered: maximizing the healing functions of the landscape, promoting ecologically regenerative landscape, and increasing the aesthetic value of the landscape based on the local context. For the healing aspect, first, therapeutic plants were carefully selected and various healing programs were introduced to the open space area such as the sensory garden, meditative space, the medicinal herb garden, outdoor acupressure treatment facilities, remedial playground etc. In addition, as the importance of patient's privacy is emphasized in research, the space and circulation patterns were divided according to the characteristics of the users. For ecological consideration, the design proposed to preserve and extend the existing ridgeline with pine forest, and recover the natural water system and recycle the water for the landscape management. For the aesthetic experience of the people, in contrast to the surrounding evergreen forest, diverse deciduous and flowering plants were introduced to arouse a sense of the season, and fruit bearing trees for wildlife to create a specific mood of being in nature so that people can listen to the songs of the birds and watch squirrels play etc. In addition, all the spaces and facilities were designed and placed according to universal design principles so that there would be no barrier for the patients to use them. Also, a sustainable management scheme was suggested to maintain the landscape in ecological and economical ways.
This study analyzed the effect of forest therapy program on reduction of stress of teachers and their positive and negative emotions based on the survey of 221 teachers who participated in the overnight Happiness School Edu-healing Camp held for teachers by the National Center for Forest Healing. For data analysis, a paired sample t-test was conducted using the SPSS 24.0 program to examine the difference in the stress reaction index of teachers and their positive and negative emotions before and after their participation in the forest therapy program. The results indicated that teachers who participated in the program showed a significant decrease in the stress response index and the values of sub-domain such as physical symptoms, depression symptoms, and anger symptoms. Moreover, all teachers exhibited a significant decrease in stress. This result verifies that the forest therapy program is effective in reducing the stress of teachers and their negative emotions. These results are expected to be used to promote more active forest therapy programs for teachers exposed to a high level of stress.
This study examined differences in the preference of the fest therapy program regarding stress level. Using convenience sampling method, the surveys on the preferred type of forest healing program and social and psychological stress scales was carried out for adult male and female. As a basis of Psycho social Stress Scale (PWI-SF: Psychosocial Well-being Index Short Form), the adult 620 people were classified such as healthy group, potential stress group, high-risk stress group. The data were analyzed by use of SPSS 21.0 program. To see the difference in preferences for forest therapy program between the three groups according to stress levels, it was analyzed using one-way ANOVA. Depending on the stress levels, there were differences in the preferences of forest healing program such as breathing, breathing exercises, walking in the forest, listening to the sound of water flowing, viewing the forest, counseling, consultation and expert coaching, stress-related lectures, communication-related lectures, forest bathing wind bathing sun bathing. High-risk stress group preferred cognitive based program such as counseling, consultation and expert coaching, stress-related lectures, communication-related lectures. Healthy group appeared to prefer highly emotional approach of the program to take advantage of the five senses such as breathing, breathing exercises, walking in the forest, listening to the sound of water flowing, viewing the forest, forest bathing, wind bathing, sun bathing. Noticeable preference difference was not observed in the potential stress group. It is hoped this study will serve as a basis for the development of forest healing program regarding stress level.
As the number of students in the multicultural background grows, the interest in their education is also increasing. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of forest healing factors on the improvement of language ability and ego-resilience of students from multicultural families. We conducted an after-school forest healing program of ten male and ten female middle school students of a multicultural preparatory school located in ${\bigcirc}{\bigcirc}$-dong in Cheongju, Chungnam Province. The experiment consisted of a total of 12 weekly one-hour (60 minutes) programs from April 12, 2018 to June 26, 2018. The forest healing program is an activity that uses the various environmental factors that exist in the forest to increase the immunity of the human body and restore physical and mental health. To determine the difference in ego-resilience before and after the program, we conducted a paired t-test and analyzed with the SPSS 18.0 program. The results showed that the ego-resilience significantly improved in all sub-factors including the positive thinking ability, problem-solving ability, intimacy ability, emotional adjustment ability, and autonomic behavior ability (p<.001). The descriptive statistics of the language ability showed the improvement in writing errors, pronunciation errors, sentence errors, tense errors, and errors in research and connection. We expect the results of this study can be used as the basic data to improve ego-resilience and language acquisition ability of middle-entry children and students from multicultural families.
This study was performed to evaluate the influence of temperature, relative humidity, and light conditions during healing and acclimatization on the graft-take and growth of grafted peppers (Capsicum annuum L.), in order to propose optimum environmental conditions for the healing and acclimatization of grafted peppers. The healing and acclimatization period was for six days and was divided into three stages (Stage I, II and III), of which each period was two days. Grafted peppers were healed under the condition of 30 and 95% relative humidity (RH) during Stage I. During Stage II and III, grafted peppers were healed and acclimatized under different temperatures ($20^{\circ}C$, $25^{\circ}C$, or $30^{\circ}C$) and RH conditions (75%, 85% or 95%). The growth of grafted peppers was greater under lower temperature and lower relative humidity conditions. The graft-take just after the end of healing and acclimatization was greater grafted peppers under high RH condition. However, the graft-take of peppers which were healed and acclimatized under $30^{\circ}C$ and RH 95%, dropped by about 10 percent on day seven after healing and acclimatization. And also, grafted peppers were healed and acclimatized under the different temperatures ($25^{\circ}C$ or $30^{\circ}C$), RH conditions (65%, 75% or 85%), and light condition (dark or light). Lower RH (to 65%) and light condition at $25^{\circ}C$ during healing and acclimatization promoted the graft-take and growth of grafted peppers.
