Computer Simulation on the Modelling of OSS Equalizer for the Reproduction of Original Sound Field (원음장 재생을 위한 OSS 등화기의 모델링에 관한 컴퓨터시뮬레이션)

  • This computer simulation is the basic research for realize a real-time hardware of the reproduction system in original sound field with two loudspeakers based on the OSS(Ortho Stereophonic System) method which was proposed by Hamada of Japan in 1983. Through the computer simulation, presumed the system function of OSS equalizer using HRTF(Head Related Transfer Function), constructed the model of OSS equalizer and , evaluated the modelling OSS equalizer by evaluation formula. The obtained results are summarized as follows : 1) By the modelling OSS equalize operate as inverse filter of HRTF, an input signal reproduced effectively. 2) Known that the real-time hardware of OSS equalizer can be made by the fast convolution between the impulse response of OSS equalizer and input speech signal. 3) Since the system function of OSS equalizer presumed from HRTF, the study on the measuring of HRTF have to proceed.

A Relevant Distortion Criterion for Interpolation of the Head-Related Transfer Functions (머리 전달 함수의 보간에 적합한 왜곡 척도)

  • In the binaural synthesis environments, wide varieties of the head-related transfer functions (HRTFs) that have measured with a various direction would be desirable to obtain the accurate and various spatial sound images. To reduce the size' of HRTFs, interpolation has been often employed, where the HRTF for any direction is obtained by a limited number of the representative HRTFs. In this paper, we study on the distortion measures for interpolation, which has an important role in interpolation. With lhe various objective distortion metrics, the differences between the interpolated and the measured HRTFs were computed. These were then compared and analyzed with the results from the listening tests. From the results, the objective distortion measures were selected, that reflected the perceptual differences in spatial sound image. This measure was employed in a practical interpolation technique. We applied the proposed method to four kinds of an HRTF set, measured from three human heads and one mannequin. As a result, the Mel-frequency cepstral distortion was shown to be a good predictor for the differences in spatial sound location, when three HRTF measured from human, and the time-domain signal to distortion ratio revealed good prediction results for the entire four HRTF sets.

Improvement of virtual speaker localization characteristics using grouped HRTF (머리전달함수의 그룹화를 이용한 가상 스피커의 정위감 개선)

  • A convolution with HRTF DB and the original sound is generally used to make the method of sound image localization for virtual speaker realization. But it can decline localization by the confusion between up and down or front and back directions due to the non-individual HRTF depending on each listener. In this paper, we study a virtual speaker using a new HRTF, which is grouping the HRTF around the virtual speaker to improve localization between up and down or front and back directions. To effective HRTF grouping, we decide the location and number of HRTF using informal listening test. A performance test result of virtual speaker using the grouped HRTF shows that the proposed method improves the front-back and up-down sound localization characteristics much better than the conventional methods.

  • 임의의 위치에 음상을 정위하는 방법으로, 머리전달함수(HRTF : Head Related Transfer Function)을 원음에 convolution 하는 기법이 사용된다. 하지만 더미헤드를 이용하여, 각각의 고도각과 방위각에서 측정된 HRTF는 사용자에 따라 정위감을 저하시킬 수 있다. 또한 좌표로 표현되는 영상과는 달리, 소리는 들려오는 방향을 정확한 좌표로 표현하기가 힘들다. 이에 본 논문은 비개인화된 HRTF를 사용하여 음상을 정위하는 경우의 정위감 개선에 대한 방법을 제안한다. 정위감 개선을 위해 음상을 정위하려는 위치 주변의 HRTF를 그룹화하는 방법에 대해 연구하였으며, 그룹화된 HRTF를 이용하여 정위한 음상의 청감평가를 수행하였다.

  • Driving aircraft requires extremely complicated and detailed information processing. Pilots perform their tasks by selecting the information relevant to them. In this processing, spatial information presented simultaneously through crossmodal link is advantageous over the one provided in singular sensory mode. In this paper, probability to apply providing visual spatial information along with auditory information to enemy tracking system in aircraft navigation is empirically investigated. The result shows that auditory spatial information, which is virtually created through HRTF is advantageous to visual spatial information alone in attention processing. The findings suggest auditory spatial information along with visual one can be presented through crossmodal link by utilizing stereophonic sound such as HRTF. which is available in the existing simple stereo system.

  • 입체음향 시스템에서 모노음에 방향감을 제어하기 위한 방법으로 FIR 필터 형태의 머리전달함수( HRTF : Head-Related Transfer Function)를 사용한다. 그러나 이때 사용되는 FIR형태의 머리전달함수는 높은 차수를 가지고 있어 실시간 음상정위 처리가 어려운 문제점을 가지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 FIR 형태의 머리전달함수를 ARMA 시스템 인지기법을 이용하여 저차의 IIR필터 형태로 모델링하여 실시간 데이터 처리가 가능하도록 하였다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 ARMA 시스템 인지기법을 이용하게 되면 주어진 고차의 FIR형태의 머리전달함수를 다양한 안정성을 갖는 IIR모델들을 얻을 수 있으며, 이들 중 적절한 스펙트럼오차를 갖는 저차의 IIR모델을 선택 할 수 있다.

Effect of HRTF on Sound Localization (머리전달함수가 음상정위에 미치는 영향)

  • 본 논문에서는 MIT 머리전달함수(Head-Related Transfer Function; HRTF)와 Neumann의 머리전달함수를 이용하여 머리전달함수가 음성정위에 미치는 영향을 비교분석하였다. 이를 위하여 머리전달함수의 측정조건과 시간 및 주파수특성을 비교 분석하였고 청취실에 헤드폰 재생을 통하여 $10^{\circ}$간격으로 음상정위에 대한 주관평가들 실시하였으며, 주관평가 자료를 이용하여 개인과 전체 평균에 대한 방향 지각 에러(각도)를 계산하였다. 실험결과, MIT 머리전달함수에 비하여 Neumann 머리전달함수를 이용한 음상정위가 양호하게 나타났으며 음질에 대해서도 청취자들은 Neumann 머리전달함수에 의한 재생음이 보다 자연스럽고, 명확한 품질을 갖는다고 답하였다.

  • 입체음향 시스템의 방향감 제어에서 필수적인 머리전달함수(Head-Related Transfer Function)는 일반적으로 FIR 또는 IIR 필터로 구현되며, IIR 필터의 경우 FIR 보다 비교적 저차 모델링이 가능한 장점을 갖는다. 본 논문에서는 Balanced Model Truncation(BMT)를 이용하여 비교적 높은 차수를 가지는 FIR 필터를 IIR 필터로 설계하여 입체음향 시스템의 실시간 구현시 필수적인 계산의 효율을 높이는 방법을 제시하고, 기존의 방법과의 성능의 비교 평가를 하고자 한다.

  • The Head Related Transfer Function (HRTF) means a process related to acoustic transmission from 3d space to the listener's ear. In other words, it contains the information that human can perceive locations of sound sources. So, we make virtual 3d sound using HRTF, despite it doesn't actually exist. But, it can deteriorate some three-dimensional effect by the confusion between front and back directions due to the non-individual HRTF depending on each listener. In this paper, we proposed the new algorithm to reduce the confusion of sound image localization using human's acoustic characteristics. The frequency spectrum and global masking threshold of 3d sounds using HRTF are used to calculate the psychoacoustical differences among each directions. And perceptible cues in each critical band are boosted to create effective 3d sound. As a result, we can make the improved 3d sound, and the performances are much better than conventional methods.

  • In implementing a computerized virtual training system, the auditory element is responsible for the human cognitive ability following visual elements. Especially, the improvement of hearing ability is closely related to the performance of the training, and it contributes to improvement of the training effect. In this paper, we propose a sound system that is necessary for constructing such a virtual training system as a test system that can use a sound source using a head related transfer function (HRTF). Functional and auditory tests were performed to evaluate system performance.
