Harmonics-based Spectral Subtraction and Feature Vector Normalization for Robust Speech Recognition

  • In this paper, we propose a two-step noise compensation algorithm in feature extraction for achieving robust speech recognition. The proposed method frees us from requiring a priori information on noisy environments and is simple to implement. First, in frequency domain, the Harmonics-based Spectral Subtraction (HSS) is applied so that it reduces the additive background noise and makes the shape of harmonics in speech spectrum more pronounced. We then apply a judiciously weighted variance Feature Vector Normalization (FVN) to compensate for both the channel distortion and additive noise. The weighted variance FVN compensates for the variance mismatch in both the speech and the non-speech regions respectively. Representative performance evaluation using Aurora 2 database shows that the proposed method yields 27.18% relative improvement in accuracy under a multi-noise training task and 57.94% relative improvement under a clean training task.

Real Time Implementation of Active Power Filters for Harmonic Suppression and Reactive Power Compensation using dSPACE DS1104

  • In this paper, an Active Power Filter (APF) is implemented using a dSPACE DS1104 processor to compensate harmonics and reactive power produced by nonlinear load. The reference source current is computed based on the measurement of harmonics in the supply voltage and load current. A hysteresis based current controller has been implemented in a DSP processor for injecting the compensating current into the power system, so that APF allows suppression of the harmonics and reactive power component of load current, resulting in a supply current that is purely sinusoidal. Simulation and experimental results of the proposed APF to meet the IEEE-519 standards are presented.

  • Most of the loads in industrial power distribution systems are balanced and connected to three wires power systems. However, in the user power distribution systems, most of the loads are single & three phase and unbalanced, generating a large amount of non-characteristic harmonics. With the advent of power electronics and proliferation of non-linear loads in industrial power applications, power harmonics and their effects on power quality are a topic of concern. Harmonics by the unbalance voltage and non-linear loads, cause the increase of machine loss and heating. In order to allow current harmonic compensation, a filter must be installed. This paper describes the performance of passive filter under the voltage unbalance and non-linear load.

Grid-friendly Control Strategy with Dual Primary-Side Series-Connected Winding Transformers

  • High-power three-level voltage-source converters are widely utilized in high-performance AC drive systems. In several ultra-power instances, the harmonics on the grid side should be reduced through multiple rectifications. A combined harmonic elimination method that includes a dual primary-side series-connected winding transformer and selective harmonic elimination pulse-width modulation is proposed to eliminate low-order current harmonics on the primary and secondary sides of transformers. Through an analysis of the harmonic influence caused by dead time and DC magnetic bias, a synthetic compensation control strategy is presented to minimize the grid-side harmonics in the dual primary side series-connected winding transformer application. Both simulation and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed control strategy can significantly reduce the converter input current harmonics and eliminates the DC magnetic bias in the transformer.

  • This paper dealt with the influence of harmonic voltages on arrester diagnostics and its compensation method by using a designed Pspice arrester model. A pure sinusoidal voltage and its 3$^{rd}$ harmonic voltage were applied to the model, and the leakage current components were analyzed. The simulation results have shown that the peak value of resistive leakage current depends not only on the phase of the 3$^{rd}$ harmonic voltage but also on the magnitude of it. In this paper, an approximated 5$^{th}$ order polynomial formula by the Least-Square-Technique was derived, and correction factors which compensate the error caused by the 3$^{rd}$ harmonic voltage were calculated.

  • This paper suggests a control algorithm of 3-phase 3-wire series active power filter. This suggested algorithm can compensate source harmonics and reactive power in 3-phase 3-wire power distribution systems. These harmonics are generated by nonlinear loads such as diode rectifiers and thyristor converters. This control algorithm extracts a compensation voltage reference from performance function without phase transformation. Therefore, this control algorithm is simpler than any other conventional control algorithms. 3-phase 3-wire series active power filters which have a harmonic voltage source and a harmonic current source are manufactured and experiments are carried out to verify the effectiveness of suggested control algorithm.

  • The availability of high power IGBT has led to development of controllable reactive power and harmonics compensation source for use in power transmission system. The paper describes the fundmental operating principles and several application examples. The control technique of reactive power and harmonics compensation for Distribution STATCON is presented, and the computer simulation results are shown to show the effectiveness of tile proposed control technique.

  • Voltage harmonics resulting from current harmonics produced by the nonlinear loads have become a serious problem in many systems. Moreover momentary interruptions and voltage sags are responsible for many of the power quality problems found in typical industrial plants. In this paper, proposed power system using series active power filter is not only harmonic compensation but also harmonic isolation between supply and load, and voltage regulation and unbalance compensation.   • Most of the user has been used linear load and non-linear load. The former is usually inductive load which is needed power factor compensation, the latter is power conversion system device. Actually two kinds of load is used together in the customer application. Generally capacitor is used for power-factor compensation of inductive load and reduction harmonics of non linear load with reactor. Non-linear load generates harmonic current for its energy conversion process. If harmonic current pass along the low impedance side of distribution system, the magnification of voltage and current is appeared by the series and parallel resonance. As a result, condenser has received a bitter electrical stress by the harmonic component. In this paper, we analyzed that how resonance is changed by the 5-th harmonic current pattern and proposed an alternative plan for non-magnification.
