The magnified current harmonics usually brings about various problems. That is, the current harmonics makes interference in the adjacent lines of communications and the railway signalling system. Furthermore, in case it flows on the side of power system, not only overheating and vibration at the power capacitors but also wrong operation at the protective devices can occur. Therefore, the exact assessment of the harmonic current flow must be undertaken at design and planning stage for the electric traction systems. From these point of view, this study presents the harmonic analysis and the modelling of traction power feeding system focused on the amplification of harmonic current.

To diagnose a stator winding fault caused by a short-circuited turn in a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM), an on-line based fault detecting scheme during motor operation is presented. The proposed scheme is based on monitoring the second-order harmonic components in q-axis current obtained through the harmonic analysis and a winding fault is detected by comparing these components with those in normal conditions. The linear interpolation method is employed to determine harmonic data in arbitrary normal operating conditions. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed fault detecting scheme, a test motor to allow inter-turn short in the stator winding has been built. The entire control system including harmonic analysis algorithm and fault detecting algorithm is implemented using DSP TMS320F28335. The proposed scheme does not require any additional hardware and can effectively detect a fault during motor operation so long as the steady-state condition is satisfied.

Electrical Railroads provide electric power, which can operate vehicles, via feeder wires. And the supplied current returns to the transformer substation through lines and ground net. The used load current depending on the operation of rail vehicles in the electric railway sections returns to the substation through a track which is a return circuit. The load current contains harmonics because of the power conversion equipment used in rolling stocks and such harmonic currents should not affect train control system. In this paper we present the test result in order to verify that the harmonics produced by the operation of rail vehicles in the newly built electric railway sections can affect interlocking systems. The test in question was performed in a linking section that trackside equipment under railway operating conditions and interlocking are linked in order to identify whether or not the interlocking fitted in a signal machine room can be affected by harmonics according to railway operation.

This paper presents a scheme on the characteristics of induction motor under the combination of linear & non-linear loads at the three phase 4-wire power distribution system. Under the combination operation of single & three phase load, voltage unbalance will be generated and current unbalance will be more severe by the dropped voltage quality. All power electronic converters used in different types of electronic systems can increase harmonic disturbances by injecting harmonic currents directly into the feeder grid of three phase 4-wire. Harmonic current may cause torque to decrease. Motors may also overheat or become noisy and torque oscillation in the rotor can lead to mechanical resonance and vibration.
This paper proposes a virtual flux (VF) and positive-sequence power based control strategy to improve the performance of grid-interfaced three-phase voltage source converters against unbalanced and distorted grid conditions. By using a second-order generalized integrator (SOGI) based VF observer, the proposed strategy achieves an AC voltage sensorless and grid frequency adaptive control. Aiming to realize a balanced sinusoidal line current operation, the fundamental positive-sequence component based instantaneous power is utilized as the control variable. Moreover, the fundamental negative-sequence VF feedforward and the harmonic attenuation ability of a sequence component generator are employed to further enhance the unbalance regulation ability and the harmonic tolerance of line currents, respectively. Finally, the proposed scheme is completed by combining the foregoing two elements with a predictive direct power control (PDPC). In order to verify the feasibility and validity of the proposed SOGI-VFPDPC, the scenarios of unbalanced voltage dip, higher harmonic distortion and grid frequency deviation are investigated in simulation and experimental studies. The corresponding results demonstrate that the proposed strategy ensures a balanced sinusoidal line current operation with excellent steady-state and transient behaviors under general grid conditions.
This paper proposes a new algorithm to generate a reference signal for an active power filter using a sliding-window FFT operation to improve the steady-state performance of the active power filter. In the proposed algorithm the sliding-window FFT operation is applied to the load current to generate the reference value for the compensating current. The magnitude and phase-angle for each order of harmonics are respectively averaged for 14 periods. Furthermore, the phase-angle delay for each order of harmonics passing through the controller is corrected in advance to improve the compensation performance. The steady-state and transient performance of the proposed algorithm was verified through computer simulations and experimental work with a hardware prototype. A single-phase active power filter with the proposed algorithm can offer a reduction in THD from 75% to 4% when it is applied to a non-linear load composed of a diode bridge and a RC circuit. The active power filter with the proposed reference generation method shows accurate harmonic compensation performance compared with previously developed methods, in which the THD of source current is higher than 5%.

In this paper, We have discussed on the modeling of machined outer geometry which was established for the case of round shape machining, also the effects of externally machined profile are analyzed and its modeling realiability was verified by the experiments of roundness testing, especially in lathe operation. In this study, we established harmonic geometric model with the parameter harmonic function. In general, we can calculate the theoretical roundness profile with arbitrary multilobe parameter. But in real experiments, only 2-5 lobe profile was frequently measured. the most frequently ones are 3 and 5 lobe profile in experiments. With this results, we can predict that these results may be applies to round shape machining such as turning, drilling, boring, ball screw and cylindrical grinding operation in bearing and shaft making operation with the same method. In this study, simulation and experimental work were performed to show the profile behaviors. we can apply these new modeling method in real process for the prediction of part profile behaviors machined such as in round shape machining operation.
This paper presents a single-phase parallel active power filter with an analog control circuit to eliminate for harmonic source currents generated by nonlinear loads. The proposed system removes the harmonic source currents by injecting a compensation current that is 180' out of phase with the load harmonic current. The detection of the load harmonics is realized by a simple new structure, referred to the Notch Filter with GIC (Generalized Impedance Converter), which has higher Q than existing harmonic detecters and a simpler structure. The compensation current is obtained using the proposed harmonic detection circuit, DC-Link voltage, and output current of the full-bridge inverter controlled current mode PWM controller. The operation of the proposed system is verified experimentally.

The harmonic current originated from electric cars will be cause of electromagnetic interference along adjacent communication cables and troubles with signaling. It will also cause overheating in power capacitor and malfuction in protection relay. Therefore, it brought actual measurement of harmonic current by each operation mode. Because the result exceeded the value prescribed by Korea Electric Power Corporation, we constructed facilities reducing harmonic current on overloaded part at each power supply station located in conventional line (Guro, Kyungsan, and Milyang) as an optimal alternative. Then, this study compared and analyzed the reducing effect before and after constructing facility.

Torque ripples generate mechanical vibration at low speed and acoustic noise at high speed. The back emf harmonics of a PM synchronous motor is one of the main sources of torque ripples. To reduce torque ripples resulting from back emf harmonics, dq-axis harmonic currents that reduce the torque ripples are generally compensated to the current controller. Harmonic current compensation is effective at low speed, but it is not applicable at high speed because of the limited bandwidth of the current controller. In this study, dq-axis harmonic voltage compensation that can reduce torque ripples at high speed is proposed. The dq-axis harmonic voltages are calculated from the motor speed and the dq-axis harmonic currents. The effectiveness of the proposed method in reducing torque ripple is verified by a simulation and experiments.
