Background: In this research article, we evaluate the use of sub-periosteal tunneling (tunnel technique) combined with alloplastic in situ hardening biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP, a compound of β-tricalcium phosphate and hydroxyapatite) bone graft for lateral augmentation of a deficient alveolar ridge. Methods: A total of 9 patients with deficient mandibular alveolar ridges were included in the present pilot study. Ten lateral ridge augmentation were carried out using the sub-periosteal tunneling technique, including a bilateral procedure in one patient. The increase in ridge width was assessed using CBCT evaluation of the ridge preoperatively and at 4 months postoperatively. Histological assessment of the quality of bone formation was also carried out with bone cores obtained at the implant placement re-entry in one patient. Results: The mean bucco-lingual ridge width increased in average from 4.17 ± 0.99 mm to 8.56 ± 1.93 mm after lateral bone augmentation with easy-graft CRYSTAL using the tunneling technique. The gain in ridge width was statistically highly significant (p = 0.0019). Histomorphometric assessment of two bone cores obtained at the time of implant placement from one patient revealed 27.6% new bone and an overall mineralized fraction of 72.3% in the grafted area 4 months after the bone grafting was carried out. Conclusions: Within the limits of this pilot study, it can be concluded that sub-periosteal tunneling technique using in situ hardening biphasic calcium phosphate is a valuable option for lateral ridge augmentation to allow implant placement in deficient alveolar ridges. Further prospective randomized clinical trials will be necessary to assess its performance in comparison to conventional ridge augmentation procedures.
A methodology is developed and many used to evaluate the response sensitivity of the thermal systems to variations in their design parameters. Technique for computing the sensitivity of temperature distributions to changes in processing parameters needed for deciding the more effective laser input parameters for laser surface hardening treatment are considered. In this study, a state equation governing the heat flow in laser surface treatment is analyzed using a three-dimensional finite element method and sensitivity data of the processing parameter obtained using a direct differentiation method applied for sensitivity analysis. The interesting processing parameter is taken as the laser scan velocity and characteristic beam radius( $r_{b}$) of the sensitivity of the temperature T versus v and $r_{b}$ is analyzed. And these sensitivity results obtained in another parameters are fixed condition. To verifying the numerical analysis results, hardened layer dimensions (width and depth) of the numerical analysis compared with the results of an experimental data.ata.

A type of one-way concrete composite slabs made by strain hardening cementitious composites (SHCC) deck combined with high tensile reinforcements was developed and evaluated by four-point slab bending test. The SHCC material was considered to have an high-ductile and strain hardening behavior in tension after cracking. From experimental comparisons with conventional reinforced concrete slab, the proposed SHCC and high tensile reinforced concrete composite slab showed more improved responses both in service and ultimate load capacities as well as in control of crack width and deflection.

Detailed two-dimensional and three-dimensional finite element (FE) analyses of double-edge cracked tension (DE(T)) specimens are carried out to investigate the effect of the relative crack length and the thickness on experimental J testing schemes. Finite element analyses involve systematic variations of relevant parameters, such as the relative crack depth and plate width-to-thickness ratio. Furthermore, the strain hardening index of material is systematically varied, including perfectly plastic (non-hardening) cases. Based on FE results, a robust experimental J estimation scheme is proposed.

Laser direct patterning of the coated photoresist (PMER-NSG31B) layer was studied to make halftone dots on the gravure printing roll. The selective laser hardening of the photoresist by Ar-ion laser(wavelength: 333.6∼363.8 nm) was controlled by the A/O modulator. The coating thickness in the range of 5∼11㎛ could be obtained by using the up-down directional moving device along the vertically located roll. The width, thickness and hardness of the hardened lines farmed under the laser power of 200∼260mW and irradiation time of 4.4∼6.6 $\mu$ sec/point were investigated after developing. The hardened width increased as the coating thickness increased. Though the hardened thickness was changed due to the effect of the developing solution, the hardened layer showed good resistance to the scratching of 2H pencil. Also, the hardened minimum line width of 10㎛ could be obtained. The change of line width was also found after etching, and the minimum line widths of 6㎛ could be obtained. The hardened lines showed the good resistance to the etching solution. Finally, the experimental data could be applied to make gravure halftone dots using the developed imaging process, successfully.

High power lasers provide a controllable and precise energy source in surface transformation hardening. A careful control of the process is needed in order that the surface layer of the material reaches the austenizing temperature, but that it does not melt. In order to achieve this the results of theoretical and experimental studies on the laser surface hardening of a medium carbon steel are described. A two-dimensional computer program, which can be used generally for the determination of transient temperature distributions in welding and heat treatment, was established on the basis of the finite element method. For the confirmation of the accuracy of the numerical analysis, a medium carbon steel (SM 45C) of 5mm thickness was heat-treated with a 1kW CW CO$_{2}$ laser machine, while the traverse speed and the distance from the focal point (defocused distance) were varied. Experimental and numerical results showed a similar tendency in correlations between the hardened zone shape and the process parameters. With increasing beam spot diameter the width and depth of the hardened zone increased for relatively small beam spot diameters, but decreased rapidly after reaching the maximum value, while with increasing traverse speed the width and depth of the hardened zone decreased monotonously. Too small beam spot diameters are to be avoided, since the surface melting would lower the surface hardness and produce an uneven surface which may be unacceptable because of the possible requirement for subsequent machining. It could be observed that for a given traverse speed and laser power input there exists a optimal range of the beam spot diameter, which produce a large width of the hardened zone but no melting on the surface.
This paper presents an experimental study results on the crack control of flexure-dominant reinforced concrete beams repaired with strain-hardening cement composite (SHCC). Five RC beams were fabricated and tested until failure. One unrepaired RC beam was a control specimen (CBN) and remaining four speciemens were repaired with SHCC materials. The test parameters included two types of SHCC matrix ductility and two types of repair method (patching and layering). Test results demonstrated that RC beams repaired with SHCC showed no concrete crushing or spalling until final failure, but numerous hair cracks were observed. The control specimen CBN failed due to crushing. It is important to note that SHCC matrix can improve crack-damage mitigation and flexural behavior of RC beams such as flexural strength, post peak ductility, and energy dissipation capacity. In the perspective of crack width, crack widths in RC beams repaired with SHCC had far smaller crack width than the control specimen CBN under the same deflection. Especially, the specimens repaired with SHCC of PVA0.75%+PE0.75% showed a high durability and ductility. The crack width indicates the residual capacity of the beam since SHCC matrix can delay residual capacity degradation of the RC beams.

Case hardening behavior of tool steel(SK5) was investigated after YAG laser irradiation. In the case of beam passes, martensite formed in the melt zone and in former pearlite regions of the austenization zone exhibited very high Vickers Hardness values. The molten depth and radius, micro structure, hardness were investigated as a function of defocusing distance, pulse width, and power density.

In this paper, analysis method of HPFRCC is proposed as predicting properties flexural behavior. For analyzing HPFRCC beam, properties of strain-hardening, multiple cracking, and crack spacing control are considered as non-homogeneous material properties of the beam. This paper focused on the deflection, maximum moment of the flexural beam, distribution of crack width with the monte carlo simulation.
