The surface layer in dredged and reclaimed marine clay is improved by mixing of shallow soils and hardening agents, which is made of cement, containing some other special admixtures. Tests in both laboratory and field settings are performed to investigate the improvement effect and strength properties of cement-stabilized soils. The test results show that the hardening agent sufficiently improves the soil properties of the surface layer, while increasing the load-carrying capacity. The strength of cement-stabilized soils depends, primarily, on water-to-cement ratio and curing temperature. That is, the higher curing temperature and the longer curing time, the higher the strength in cement-stabilized soils. The high ratio of water-ta-cement results in a lower strength.
Hardening agents have been the traditional material for surface soil stabilization of soft ground. This study aims at determining the optimal mixture ratio of the hardening agent in accordance with the required design specifications. Hardening agents which consists of fly ash, gypsum, slag and cement for the ettringite hydrates is effective for early stabilization of unconsolidated soil. The raw ground material is the clay that is widely found in Korea. In this study, preliminary tests were performed to get an optimal mixture ratio of the stabilizer ingredient and marine clay from Jinhae was used to get physical and chemical properties. Laboratory tests of 50 stabilized soils were performed to get an optimal mixture ratio for 16-stabilizer materials of 6 types, and a mixture ratio of the stabilizer ingredient and marine clay was determined.

In this paper, we describe a study on the relationship between neutral emulsion manufacture and hardening test of films. The hardeners were prepared by condensation of equimolar amounts of trichlorotriazine with benzene- or naphthalene-based amino or oxy acids at 0 to $5^{\circ}C$ and at pH 7, and used as hardening agents for gelatin. The hardening test of neutral emulsion layers was studied at pH 7.0. For example I(R=ONa) had strong hardening properties, I substituted with an aminobenzosulfonate moiety $(R=NHC_6H_4-p-SO_3Me$ where Me = K, Na) was a much weaker gelatin hardener, and when substituted with amino- or oxynaphthalene derivative (II, III) did not harden gelatin at all. Compound with 2 dichlorotriazine groups as IV exhibited hardening properties. The hardener can be used in neutral emulsion layer of film and showed good hardening effect.
In this paper, we describe a study on the relationship between alkaline magenta emulsion manufacture and hardening test of films. The hardeners were prepared by condensation of equimolar amounts of trichlorotriazine with benzene-or naphthalene-based amino or oxy acids at 0 to $5^{\circ}C$ and at pH 7, and used as hardening agents for gelatin. The hardening test of alkaline magenta emulsion was studied at pH 8.5. For example I(R=ONa) had strong hardening properties, I substituted with an aminobenzosulfonate moiety (R=NHC6H4-p-SO3Me where Me = K, Na) was a much weaker gelatin hardener, and when substituted with amino- or oxynaphthalene derivative (II, III) did not harden gelatin at all. Compound with 2 dichlorotriazine groups as IV exhibited hardening properties. The hardener can be used in alkaline magenta emulsion layer of film and showed good hardening effect.
In this paper, we describe a study on the relationship between photographic emulsion manufacture and hardening test of films. The hardeners were prepared by condensation of equimolar amounts of trichlorotriazine with benzene- or naphthalene-based amino or oxy acids at 0 to 5$^{\circ}C$ and at pH 7, and used as hardening agents for gelatin. The hardening test of photographic emulsion was studied at pH 5.5. For example I(R=ONa) had strong hardening properties, I substituted with an aminobenzosulfonate moiety (R=$NHC_6H_4-p-SO_3Me$ where Me = K, Na) was a much weaker gelatin hardener, and when substituted with amino- or oxynaphthalene derivative (II, III) did not harden gelatin at all. Compound with 2 dichlorotriazine groups as IV exhibited strong hardening properties. The hardener can be used in photographic emulsion of film and showed very good hardening effect.
Recently, as large constructions on the coast increase, an application of a surface layer stabilization method which is one of the improvement methods for dredged soft clay has increased. However, there are few studies about this. The purpose of this study is clarifying characteristics of ultra-soft marine clay and hardening agent. Also, it is verifying an optimal mixture ratio of hardening agent through the laboratory tests according to designed experiments and proving by statistical analysis and pilot tests. Laboratory tests were performed with proper hardening agent and test soil in accordance with the design of experiments. Regression equations between hardening agents materials and unconfined compressive strength were derived from the tests. The applicability of regression equations were also verified by pilot tests. From the test results, it was found that hardening agent materials(cement, slag, fly-ash, inorganic salts, arwin, gypsum etc.) have some effect upon compressive strength. The optimal mixture ratio which satisfies the required compressive strength was derived from the statistical analysis. The effect of ground improvement by cements and hardening agents was confirmed through the pilot tests. This study will suggest data for design or construction criteria of stabilization of surface layer on ultra-soft marine clay.
Construction materials using soil which is the most common material around us have many advantages, but their long-term durability and sensation of walking as pavements have problems. Therefore, they are used after compaction or mixed with various hardening agents such as lime and cement for strength enhancement. However, studies on the behavior of pavement materials mixed with environment-friendly hardening agents or admixtures to improve walking property are still insufficient. In this study, therefore, in order to evaluate the appropriate mixing ratio and field application characteristics of pavement materials using mixed soils with environment-friendly hardening agents and natural materials such as wood chips, mechanical tests were performed to evaluate the rational mixing ratios and the ball test was performed as an elasticity test to evaluate the field applicability. The results suggest that the content of wood chips should be selected at 1.5% or lower according to the purpose of the structure, and the hardening agent at 10~15%. The evaluation results for GB/SB coefficient ratio which indicates the walking property show that the appropriate mixing ratio of the hardening agent in terms of the sensation of walking is 15% of lower, but different mixing ratios should be chosen according to the proportion of wood chips.

This study examined the fluidity and strength properties, water resistance, durability, and freeze-thaw of cementless loess mortar using an eco-friendly hardening agent. The experimental result indicates that 28 days compressive and flexural strength of the loess mortar was increased regardless of the weathered granite soil and loess mixture ratio as the replacement ratio of the hardening agent increases. The strengths were significantly increased until 14 days regardless of the hardening agent, while the effect on the strengths increasement was relatively low after 14 days. Thus, the strength development of loess mortar concrete was found to be faster than that of the normal concrete. In addition, when the hardening agent of 10% was used, the average flexural strength was 1.7MPa which is insufficient compared to the 28-day flexural strength of 4.5MPa for the paving concrete. However, the flexural strengths of the loess mortar concrete using the hardening agents of 20% and 30% were 4.0MPa and 5.3MPa, respectively. Thus, the hardening agent need to be at least 20% so that the loess mortar can be used for paving concrete. The experiment for water resistance shows that the repeated absorption and dry reduced mass regardless of the mixing ratio of the loess. The maximum length change also decreased with increasing the substitution rate loess mixture ratio and the hardening agent. The result of the freeze-thaw resistance test indicates that the relative dynamic modulus of elasticity at 300 cycle freeze-thaw with the hardening agents of 20% and 30% were 75% and 79%, relatively. Thus, the hardening agent of at least 20% is required to obtain the relative dynamic modulus of elasticity of 60% for the loess mortar.

Recently, as large constructions on the coast are performed frequently, surface layer stabilization method which Is one of the improvement methods for dredged soft clay has been applied. However, there have been few studies about the surface layer stabilization method. The purpose of this study is to clarify characteristics of ultra-soft marine clay and hardening agent. Also, optimal mixture ratio of hardening agent was verified through the laboratory tests such as statistical analysis and pilot tests. Laboratory tests were performed with proper hardening agent and test soil and standard mixing tables of hardening agent were determined according to ground conditions through statistical analysis. Also, applicability of surface layer stabilization method to field was verified by pilot tests. From the results of the tests, it was found that hardening agent materials such as cement, slag, fly-ash, inorganic salts, arwin, gypsum etc. affect on the appearing compressive strength. It was defined optimal mixture ratio which satisfies the required compressive strength from the statistical analysis. Also, It was compared the effect of ground improvement by cements and hardening agents through the pilot tests. This study will serve as data for design or construction criteria of stabilization of surface layer on ultra-soft marine clay.
In this study, geotechnical tests including unconfined compression test were carried out to evaluate the ground improvement effect of the hardening agent, which has been developed by using inter-chemical reactions between slag, fly ash, phosphogypsum and bypass dust on the weathered granite soil and dredged marine clay. Test results show that the strength of weathered granite soil mixed with hardening agent B-2, which uses phosphogypsum as an activator, is higher than that of B-1, which uses bypass dust as an activator. Strengths of B-1 & B-2 hardening agent mixed soil show only 44%~60% of strength of OPC(Ordinary Portland Cement, OPC) mixed soil. However, since B-1 and B-2 agents are made of industrial by-products, they seem economically more effective than ordinary portland cement as well as other present hardening agents. Test results on dredged marine clay show that unconfined compression strength increases with amount of agent and curing days. Unconfined compression strength of 14% B-1 agent mixed soil increases linearly with curing days and reaches only 40% of OPC mixed soil. While unconfined compression strength of 14% B-2 agent mixed soil increases exponentially and reaches 133% of OPC mixed soil. Relationship between deformation modulus and unconfined compression strength of B-1 and B-2 mixed soil can be expressed as $E_{50}=(20{\sim}47)_{qu,28}$, which is similar with lower limit of OPC mixed dredged marine clay.
