  • This study is intended to devolop the self waterproof agents for high performance concrete by analyzing the properties of fresh and hardened mortar with various addition ratios of the inorganic admixture and zinc stearate. As the results of the test, the flow and air content increase with the addition of expansive additives. When the replacement rate of silica fume increases, the flow decreases for the increased viscidity. And the flow and sir content decrease with the addition of zinc stearate. At hardened state, the compressive strength, tensile strength and flexual strength decrease with the addition of expansive additives and zinc stearate. With the increase of silica fume's replacement, they show a little decrease at early age and then increase gradually. Also, absorption and permeability show a steep decrease when zinc stearate is added, and a slack decrease with the replacement of silica fume.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the possibility for application of E.P-dust as both admixture and fillers for aggregates under various mixproportion, replacing method and the ratios of replacement. According to the experimental results, improvement of viscosity and reducing of segregation at fresh state and gain in strength at hardened state can be achieved by applying E.P-dust. It can be considered from the results that application of E.P-dust will be more efficient as fillers for aggregates than as binder

  • 본 연구는 고반응성 메타카올린(HRM)을 혼입한 고성능 콘크리트(HPC)의 굳지 않은 콘크리트와 경화된 콘크리트의 특성을 평가하기 위해 수행되었다. 굳지 않은 콘크리트에 대해서는 공기량과 슬럼프 플로우, 응결시간 및 수화열 측정 시험을 실시하였다. 경화된 콘크리트에 대해서는 압축강도 및 염화물 투수시험, 마모저항성, 동결ㆍ응해 저항성 시험을 하였다. HRM 콘크리트의 특성은 또한 보통 포틀랜드 시멘트 콘크리트와 실리카 흄 콘크리트와 비교하여 나타내었다. 실험 결과 HRM 재료가 고성능 콘크리트를 생산하기 위한 시멘트 대체 재료로서 사용할 수 있음을 보여주었다.

  • This paper presents fundamental experiment for the properties of high performance concrete in its fresh and hardened state made with ground granulated blast-furnace (GGBF) slag. The result is that the effect of decreasing xoncrete temperature is to the mixing ratio of GGBF slag, but it presents disadvantage in the slump loss phase. In addition to, we know that the splitting tensile strength, compressive strength and elastic modulus of concrete mixed with high fineness GGBF slag are increased at age 28days.

Effect of silica fume and polyepoxide-based polymer on electrical resistivity, mechanical properties, and ultrasonic response of SCLC

  • This study focused on the influences regarding the use of polyepoxide-based polymer and silica fume (SF) on the fresh and hardened state properties of self-compacting lightweight concrete (SCLC) along with their impacts on electrical resistance and ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV). To do so, two series of compositions each of which consists of twelve mixes, with water to binder (W/B) ratios of 0.35 and 0.4 were cast. Three different silica fume/binder ratios of 0, 5%, and 10% were considered along with four different polymer/binder ratios of 0, 5%, 10%, and 15%. Afterwards, the rupture modulus, tensile strength, 14-day, 28-day, and 90-day compressive strength, the UPV and the electrical resistance of the mixes were tested. The results indicated that although the use of polymer could enhance the passing and filling abilities, it could lead to a decrease of segregation resistance. In addition, the interaction of the SF and the polymeric contents enhanced the workability. However, the impacts regarding the use of polymeric contents on fresh state properties of SCLC were more prevalent than those regarding the use of SF. Besides the fresh state properties, the durability and mechanical properties of the mixes were affected due to the use of polymeric and SF contents. In other words, the use of the SF and the polymer enhanced the durability and mechanical properties of SCLC specimens.

  • The spherical bead manufactured by rapidly cooling process shows high density of 3.64g/㎤, high unit volume weight of 2.6kg/l, and high solid volume of 71%. When it applies to the grouter, it is possible to obtain even high fluidity with only a small amount. This study, focusing the grouter using a rapidly-cooled electric arc furnace oxidizing slag(RC-EAFS), deals with the properties of flow and setting time in fresh state, compressive strength and length variation at 1, 3, 7 and 28 curing day in hardened state. As the results, even though the grouter with RC-EAFS shows comparative low strength, it will be possible to development the competitive product due to the properties of increasing flow and low cost.

Characterization and Early Age Physical Properties of Ambient Cured Geopolymer Mortar Based on Class C Fly Ash

  • The critical element for sustainable growth in the construction industry is the development of alternative cements. A new technological process called geopolymerization provides an innovative solution, and the presence of aluminum and silicon oxides in fly ash has encouraged its use as a source material. Many previous investigations have involved curing the binder in a heated environment. To reduce energy consumption during the synthesis of geopolymers, the present study investigated the properties of ambient cured geopolymer mortar at early ages. An experimental program was executed to establish a relationship between the activator composition and the properties of geopolymer mortar in fresh and hardened states. Concentrations of sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate were ascertained that are advantageous for constructability and mechanical behavior. Scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction techniques were also used to characterize the material. Test results indicate that there is potential for the concrete industry to use fly ash based geopolymer as an alternative to portland cement.

  • This study is aimed for investigating the influence of mortar on improved of surface shape of crushed sand, and analyzing the physical properties of fresh state and hardened state. By the test results, it was found that the flow value and bleeding ratio was increased, but the change of flow value according to time was decreased with the improved surface shape of crushed sand. Also, comparing improved of surface shape of crushed sand with not improved of surface shape of crushed sand on strength, compressive strength is about the same and flexural strength decrease in case of improved of surface shape of crushed sand.

Effect of presoaking degree of lightweight aggregate on the properties of lightweight aggregate concrete

  • This study aimed at exploring the effect of presoaking degree of lightweight aggregate (LWA) on the fresh and hardened properties of concrete. Two series (i.e., Series A and Series B) of concrete mixes that were made of LWA with different moisture states were prepared. The presoaking degree of LWA was divided into three types: oven dry state, 1 hour prewetted and 24 hours prewetted. For the Series A, the water content of the lightweight aggregate concrete (LWAC) mixes was adjusted in accordance with the moisture condition of the LWA. Whereas the amount of water added in the Series B mixes was deliberately not adjusted for the moisture condition of the LWA. Slump test, mechanical tests, interfacial transition zone microscopical tests and thermal conductivity test were carried out on the specimens of different concretes and compared with control normal-weight aggregate concretes. The test results showed that the effect of mixing water absorption by LWA with different moisture states was reflected in the fresh concrete as the loss of mixture workability, while in the hardened concrete as the increase of its strength. With the use of oven-dried LWA, the effect of reduction of water-cement ratio was more significant, and thus the microstructure of the ITZ was more compact.
