Recently, many consumer electronics manufacturers have produced 3D devices such as 3DTVs and 3D monitors as interests in a stereoscopic video service are getting increased. However, most of 3D services are focused on local storage or bandwidth guaranteed service since 3D stereoscopic video service require bandwidth more stable and larger. This property causes difficulties in seamless stereoscopic video streaming services under IP based open network environment that cannot guarantee quality of services. In order to achieve a seamless video streaming service the international standard organization MPEG (Moving Pictures Experts Group) has developed the adaptive HTTP streaming technology called as DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP). However, the DASH doesn't have obvious scheme which can express the two elementary video streams based service-compatible stereoscopic contents in one segment. Therefore, this paper proposes a scheme of efficient 3D adaptive streaming service based on the DASH, which covers not only frame-packing stereoscopic contents but also service-compatible ones. The 3D adaptive HTTP streaming scheme introduced in this paper is able to provide 3D contents with various qualities to user and also has benefit that single 3D content can be applied to a variety of devices.
The Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP(DASH) is envisioned to evolve to meet an increasing demand on providing seamless video streaming services in the near future. The DASH performance heavily depends on the client's adaptive quality selection algorithm that is not included in the standard. The existing conventional algorithms are basically based on a procedural algorithm that is not easy to capture and reflect all variations of dynamic network and traffic conditions in a variety of network environments. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a novel quality selection mechanism based on the Deep Q-Network(DQN) model, the DQN-based DASH Adaptive Bitrate(ABR) mechanism. The proposed mechanism adopts a new reward calculation method based on five major performance metrics to reflect the current conditions of networks and devices in real time. In addition, the size of the consecutive video segment to be downloaded is also considered as a major learning metric to reflect a variety of video encodings. Experimental results show that the proposed mechanism quickly selects a suitable video quality even in high error rate environments, significantly reducing frequency of quality changes compared to the existing algorithm and simultaneously improving average video quality during video playback.

Recently, QoS/QoE technology as a part of the HTTP-based adaptive streaming technology has attracted attention. In this paper, we find out HTTP-based adaptive and dynamic streaming technology. It is based on a dynamic adaptive streaming system over HTTP, which is designed and implemented. The system consist of conversion by the bit rate of MPEG2-TS files, division of segment, creation of MPD(Media Presentation Description) and bitrate's player through analysis of MPD File between servers and clients in network environments of dynamic and adaptive. This diverse network environments, continuous and smooth playback of video will be used in various multimedia fields.
When multiple clients share bandwidth and receive a streaming service, HTTP Adaptive Streaming has a problem in that the bandwidth is measured inaccurately due to the ON-OFF pattern of the segment request. To solve the problem caused by the ON-OFF pattern, the proposed PANDA (Probe AND Adapt) determines the quality of the segment to be requested while increasing the target bandwidth. However, since the target bandwidth is increased by a fixed amount, there is a problem in low bandwidth utilization and a slow response to changes in bandwidth. In this paper, we propose a video quality control scheme that improves the low bandwidth utilization and slow responsiveness of PANDA. The proposed scheme adjusts the amount of increase in the target bandwidth according to the bandwidth utilization after judging the bandwidth utilization by comparing the segment download time and the request interval. Experimental results show that the proposed scheme can fully utilize the bandwidth and can quickly respond to changes in bandwidth.

Owing to the increase in consumption of multimedia content and the improvement of device capacity, user demand for high-quality content has increased. However, it is difficult to transport such large amounts of content over the existing broadcasting network with limited bandwidth. To provide high-definition broadcasting, some studies suggest methods of transporting multimedia over heterogeneous networks after encoding content hierarchically. MPEG Media Transport (MMT), standardized by Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG), is a solution that enables large-volume media transport over heterogeneous networks such as digital broadcasting networks and packet-switched networks. In the case of delivering a scalable encoded video over different networks, synchronization of each stream is an important issue. MMT defines a synchronization scheme, but does not contain sufficient functions to implement it. In this paper, we propose a synchronization scheme for media streams that are encoded hierarchically, divided into layers, and transported over heterogeneous networks. We implement our scheme using MMT and HTTP, and experimented using three encapsulated video streams with different durations. As a result, we show that the proposed scheme can reduce the waiting time to display high-quality video, relative to Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP-Scalable Video Coding (DASH-SVC) by requesting segments of enhanced layers after calculating the transmission time. Additionally, we find out that the selection of durations have a relation to the characteristics of the video.

In this paper, we propose a smart HLS(HTTP Live Stream) platform with dynamic single buffering for the best transmission of adaptive video bit-rates. This smart HLS can optimizes the channel transition zapping-time with the monitoring of bandwidth between HLS server and OTT(Over The Top) client. This platform is designed through the control of video stream due to proper multi-bitrates and bandwidths. This proposed OTT can decode the live and VOD(Video On Demand) videos with the buffering of optimumal bitrate. And, the HLS can be cooperated with a smart OTT, and segmented for the m3u8 files of H.265 MPEG-2 TS(Transport Stream) videos. As a resullt, this single buffer based smart OTT can transmit optimal videos with the maximum data buffering according to the adaptive bit-rate depending on the network bandwidth efficiency and the decoded VOD video, too.

In this paper, we address the channel zapping time problem of video streaming services based on HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) on smart Over-The-Top Set-Top Boxes (OTT STBs). Experimental analysis of the channel zapping time, show that smart OTT STBs inevitably suffer from the accumulated zapping time through channel change request, Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) leave/join, synchronization delay, video buffer delay, and STB processing delay when providing HLS services. As a practical solution for the zapping time reduction, an adaptive buffering method is proposed. The proposed method exploits two adaptive buffers added to the basic HLS player. These two adaptive buffers are responsible for constantly buffering previous and next channels relative to the current channel. Implementation and test results show that a stable zapping time less than one second can be achieved even under diverse video bitrate changes and varying network conditions by the proposed adaptive buffering method.

Using a web browser, real-time video communication technologies are emerging today. In this paper, we studied the web browser and take advantage of real-time video communication technology for Based on this, we have designed and implemented a Web-based real-time video communication systems. In this system, having different web browsers and web servers through a web browser using the RTC API and HTTP / WebSockets in a real-time video communication is possible. It is available at all terminals, all connected by a network environment from the use of the web browser, will be utilized in the field of visual communications in a limited environment.
Recently, the web-based adaptive streaming service, DASH (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP), is receiving more attention. However, existing network-based and buffer-based video quality control schemes in DASH environments make oscillation of segment throughput, causing degradation of the quality of experience (QoE) with frequent quality changes and playback interruptions because these schemes do not consider the content characteristics. In this paper, we propose a C-DASH (Content Characteristics based Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) scheme in order to improve the QoE in DASH environments. The C-DASH scheme performs seamless and smooth quality control based on the segment throughput, buffer status, and segment size of the content. Based on simulation results, it is confirmed that the C-DASH scheme can improve the QoE, when compared with the existing quality control schemes.

In recent years, HTTP adaptive streaming (HAS) has attracted considerable attention as the state-of-the-art technology for video transport. HAS dynamically adjusts the quality of video streaming according to the network bandwidth and device capability of users. Content-Centric Networking (CCN) has also emerged as a future Internet architecture, which is a novel communication paradigm that integrates content delivery as a native network primitive. These trends have led to the new research issue of harmonizing HAS with the in-network caching provided by CCN routers. Previous research has shown that the performance of HAS can be improved by using the H.264/SVC(scalable video codec) in the in-network caching environments. However, the previous study did not address the misbehavior that causes video freeze when overestimating the available network bandwidth, which is attributable to the high cache hit rate. Thus, we propose a new SVC-based adaptation algorithm that utilizes a drop timer. Our approach aims to stop the downloading of additional enhancement layers that are not cached in the local CCN routers in a timely manner, thereby preventing excessive consumption of the video buffer. We implemented our algorithm in the SVC-HAS client and deployed a testbed that could run Smooth-Streaming, which is one of the most popular HAS solutions, over CCNx, which is the reference implementation of CCN. Our experimental results showed that the proposed scheme (SLA) could avoid video freeze in an effective manner, but without reducing the high hit rate on the CCN routers or affecting the high video quality on the SVC-HAS client.
