In order to optimize gold leaching from refractory sulfide concentrate, a HCl-NaClO-$FeCl_3$ solution with varying attributes was applied to the roasted concentrate from Uil mine. The gold from Uil mine occurs in the form of invisible gold that is difficult to leach. The results of the gold leaching experiments showed that the best gold leaching parameters were $550^{\circ}C$ of roasting temperature, 2.0 M of concentration, 1.0% of pulp density, and $70^{\circ}C$ of leaching temperature. It is confirmed that the HCl-NaClO-$FeCl_3$ solution was an environmentally friendly method to leach gold and silver from the refractory sulfide concentrate as an alternative lixiviant to cyanide.

Leaching of black dross with HCl solution was conducted to find a suitable process to recover valauble materials. In this work, the leaching behavior of the components was compared between black dross and the residues after water treatment. All the components except $TiO_2$ in the black dross were dissolved by HCl solution in the experimental ranges. Treatment of the black dross with water to recover the salts has negative effect on the leaching of $Al_2O_3$, MgO and $SiO_2$. The reactions occuring during the leaching were discussed. At an optimum leaching condition of 3 M HCl and $90^{\circ}C$, the leaching percentage of $Al_2O_3$, MgO and $SiO_2$ was 85, 100 and 40%, respectively.
This study focuses on the development of an alkaline leaching hydrometallurgy process for the recovery of tungsten from WC/Co hardmetal sludge, and an examination of the effect of the process parameters on tungsten recovery. The alkaline leaching hydrometallurgy process has four stages, i.e., oxidation of the sludge, leaching of tungsten by NaOH, refinement of the leaching solution, and precipitation of tungsten. The WC/Co hardmetal sludge oxide consists of $WO_3$ and $CoWO_4$. The leaching of tungsten is most affected by the leaching temperature, followed by the NaOH concentration and the leaching time. About 99% of tungsten in the WC/Co hardmetal sludge is leached at temperatures above $90^{\circ}C$ and a NaOH concentration above 15%. For refinement of the leaching solution, pH control of the solution using HCl is more effective than the addition of $Na_2S{\cdot}9H_2O$. The tungsten is precipitated as high-purity $H_2WO_4{\cdot}H_2O$ by pH control using HCl. With decreasing pH of the solution, the tungsten recovery rate increases and then decrease. About 93% of tungsten in the WC/Co hardmetal sludge is recovered by the alkaline leaching hydrometallurgy process.

The leaching of Cu from waste PCBs was investigated with electro-generated chlorine as an oxidant. The leaching experiments were carried out according to the design of experiments to analyze quantitatively the effect of parameters on copper leaching. From the analysis of variance (ANOVA) it was suggested that the effective parameters were current density, temperature, concentration of HCl, and the interaction between the concentration of HCl and temperature. Especially, the effect of current density was analyzed to contribute to the interpretation of result for copper leaching up to 95.7%. A multiple regression model obtained from the analysis of effective parameters explained 99% of leaching results. From the model equation, it was found that the effect of HCl concentration on copper leaching increased with temperature.

In this study, treatment conditions for monazite concentrate in Hong-Cheon area deposit were studied with NaOH fritting decomposition and HCl leaching experiments. At condition of NaOH fritting decomposition, it was appropriate to adopt particle size of -200 mesh monazite, reaction temperature of about $460^{\circ}C$ and NaOH/TREO mole ratio of 6. In case of HCl leaching for decomposed product, it was appropriate to use hydrochloric acid of above 8N with leaching temperature of above $80^{\circ}C$, leaching time of 2 hrs and pulp density of about 10%. A rate of decomposition and leaching for monazite was above 90% under optimum conditions. Sodium phosphate compound was effectively recovered from NaOH decomposed solution, and mixed rare earth chloride solution was prepared with HCl leaching of decomposed product.
A study on the recovery of yttrium was conducted using the phosphor sludges generated in the recycling process of obsolete CRTs. Yttrium was leached by HCl and $HNO _3$. The leaching efficiency of yttrium was extensively investigated in terms of acid concentration, leaching temperature and time, and pulp density. Yttrium and lead was recovered from leaching solutions also by precipitation method. The leaching behavior of yttrium was similar in both acids. The leaching efficiency of yttrium for both acids increased with time at the conditions of 3.0M, $90^{\circ}C$, and 280 g/L of pulp density. After 40 minutes, it was saturated to 93% and 90% for HCl and HNO$_3$respectively. Yttrium was recovered from leaching acid solution by the addition of $H_2$$C_2$$O_4$while lead was removed as $PbSO_4$by $Na_2$$SO_4$.
Ilmenite is one of the principal ores for the production of titanium dioxide. To produce titanium dioxide with purity higher than 99.9% from ilmenite, Ti(IV) should be separated from the dissolved impurities such as Fe(III), Si(IV), and Mn(II) present in ilmenite. In this work, a hydrometallurgical process was investigated to recover pure titanium dioxide from ilmenite by HCl leaching followed by separation and hydrolysis of Ti(IV). An optimum leaching condition was obtained by investigating the effect of HCl concentration, pulp density, and leaching time on the leaching percentage of Ti(IV), Fe(III), Si(IV), and Mn(II). Ammonium hydroxide and sodium hydroxide solutions were employed as neutralizing agents to hydrolyze Ti(IV) from the stripping solution of Ti(IV). Titanium dioxide of the anatase phase was obtained by calcination of the hydrolyzed precipitates with $NH_4OH$ solution. A hydrometallurgical process can be developed to produce pure $TiO_2$ powders from ilmenite.

Molybdenum is widely used in many materials; thus, its recovery from ores and secondary resources has attracted considerable attention. In this study, the leaching of molybdenite ore using hydrochloric acid containing sodium chlorate as an oxidizing agent was studied. The effects of several variables, such as the concentrations of HCl and NaClO3, reaction temperature and time, and pulp density, on the leaching of the ore were investigated. Under strong acidic and oxidizing conditions, the sulfide in the ore was dissolved as a sulfate ion, which formed gypsum with Ca(II), leading to a decrease in the leaching percentage of Mo(VI) from the ore. The leaching percentage of molybdenum was greater than 90%, while those of iron, calcium, and silicon were 38, 29, and 67%, respectively, under the optimum conditions: 2.0 M HCl, 0.5 M NaClO3, pulp density of 5 g/L, temperature of 90 ℃, and treatment time of 60 min.
This study was to understand leaching characteristics with pH controlling agents and Temp. control, and investigate leaching characteristics with pH control from opening a leaching test to an end for reassessing leaching test of heavy metals with environmental conditions in landfill. Because leaching of heavy metals was increased in low pH, pH must control for leaching in existing leaching test. Generally, regulation time(6hr) of leaching was confirmed reasonablely, except for Cu in plating sludge. In pH controlling solution, there was nearly not difference between Acetic acid and HCl and if considering Cu, the former was appropriate. In a part of heavy metal, leaching rate was increased in high Temp., and normal Temp. in existing leaching test would be revaluated.

Environmental quality regulations are used to establish the maximum permissible concentrations of heavy metals before a site can be deemed to be polluted or contaminated. This paper compares the results obtained by 0.IN HCl extraction and acid extraction method(HNO$_3$+HClO$_4$.HCl). The leaching efficiency of 0.1N HCl extraction is directly proportional to the final pH of leachate, due to the different solubilities of the heavy metals at different pH values, The severe differences between 0.1N HCl-extractable and total metal contents result mainly from the buffering effect of carbonates, present in sediment. samples. Application of sequential extraction experiments to some sediments collected from gully pot in Seoul illustrates a much stronger scavenging effect by Fe and Mn-hydroxides, carbonates and organic phases. As deduced from both sequential extraction and leaching experiments, the relative mobility of heavy metals is found to be: Mn>Zn>>Co>Cd>>Cu>Pb>Cr>Fe, in spite of large differences in heavy metal content and localization. Changes in the physicochemical environments (such as acidification) caused by a traffic accident may result in the severe environmental pollution of heavy metals of surrounding area( surface water and rivers).
