  • We have developed a chemically-driven top-down approach using vapor phase HCl to form various GaN nanostructures and successfully demonstrated dislocation-free and strain-relaxed GaN nanostructures without etching damage formed by a selective dissociation method. Our approach overcomes many limitations encountered in previous approaches. There is no need to make a pattern, complicated process, and expensive equipment, but it produces a high-quality nanostructure over a large area at low cost. As far as we know, this is the first time that various types of high-quality GaN nanostructures, such as dot, cone, and rod, could be formed by a chemical method without the use of a mask or pattern, especially on the Ga-polar GaN. It is well known that the Ga-polar GaN is difficult to etch by the common chemical wet etching method because of the chemical stability of GaN. Our chemically driven GaN nanostructures show excellent structure and optical properties. The formed nanostructure had various facets depending on the etching conditions and showed a high crystal quality due to the removal of defects, such as dislocations. These structure properties derived excellent optical performance of the GaN nanostructure. The GaN nanostructure had increased internal and external quantum efficiency due to increased light extraction, reduced strain, and improved crystal quality. The chemically driven GaN nanostructure shows promise in applications such as efficient light-emitting diodes, field emitters, and sensors.

  • Super-hydrophobic properties have been achieved on the rf-sputtered polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) films deposited on etched aluminum surfaces. The microstructural evolution created after etching has been investigated by FESEM. The water contact angle over $160^{\circ}$ can be achieved on the rf-sputtered ultra-tihn PTFE film less than 10 nm coated on aluminum surface etched with 7 wt.%, 12.5 wt.%, and 15 wt.% HCl concentration for 12 min. XPS analysis have revealed the presence of a large quantity of $-CF_3$ and $-CF_2$ groups in the rf-sputtered PTFE films that effectively can reduce the surface energy of etched aluminum. The presence of patterned morphology along with the low surface energy at the rf-sputtered PTFE coating makes the aluminum surface with high super-hydrophobic property.

  • Mechanical and chemical methods are the two ways to treat the implant surfaces. By using mechanical method, it is difficult to eliminate bacteria and by-products from the rough implant surface and it can also cause the structural change to the implant surface. Therefore, chemical method is widely used in order to preserve and detoxicate the implant surface more effectively. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of tetracylcline- HCl on the change of implant surface microstructure according to application time. Implants with pure titanium machined surface, SLA surface and $TiO_2blasted$ surface were used in this study. Implant surface was rubbed with sponge soaked in 50mg/ml tetracycline - HCl solution for $\frac{1}{2}$ min., 1min., $1\frac{1}{2}$ min., 2 min., and $2\frac{1}{2}min.$ respectively in the test group and with no treatment in the control group. The sponge was soaked in every 30 seconds. Then, the specimens were processed for scanning electron microscopic observation. Based upon the analysis of photographs by three dentists who are not related with this study, the results were obtained as follows; 1. In the pure titanium machined surfaces, the control specimen showed a more or less rough machined surface composed of alternating positive and negative lines corresponding to grooves and ridges. After treatment, machining line was more pronounced for the control specimens. but in general, test specimens were similar to control. 2. In the SLA surfaces, the control specimen showed that the macro roughness was achieved by large-grit sandblasting. Subsequently, the acid-etching process created the micro roughness, which thus was superimposed on the macro roughness. Irrespective of the application time of 50mg/ml tetracycline - HCl solution, in general, test specimens were similar to control. 3. In the $TiO_2blasted$ surfaces, the control specimen showed the rough surface With small pits. The irregularity of the $TiO_2blasted$ surfaces with 50mg/ml tetracycline - HCl solution was lessened and the flattened areas got wider after 1 minute.

  • Wet Scrubber reacts the incoming pollutant gas with cleaning water (water + absorbent) to absorb pollutants and release the clean air to the atmosphere. Wet scrubbers and packed tower scrubbers using this principle are widely used in businesses that emit acid gases. In particular, in the etching process using hydrochloric acid (HCl), alkaline washing water (NaOH) having a pH of about 8 to 11 is used to absorb a large amount of acid gas. However, These salts are attached to the injection nozzle (nozzle), filling material (packing), and the demister (Demister), causing air pollution, human damage, and inoperability due to clogging and acid gas discharge. Therefore, In this study, an improvement plan was proposed to manage the washing water with pH 3~4 acidic washing water. The test method takes samples from the Wet Scrubber flue measurement laboratory twice a month for 1 year. Hydrogen chloride (HCl) concentration (ppm) was measured, and nozzle clogging and scale conditions were measured, compared, and analyzed through a differential pressure gauge and a pressure gauge. As a result of the check, it was visually confirmed that the scale was reduced to 50% or less in the spray nozzle, filler, and demister. In addition, the emission limit of hydrogen chloride in accordance with the Enforcement Regulation of the Air Quality Conservation Act [Annex 8] met 3 ppm or less. Therefore, even if the washing water is operated in an acidic pH range of 3 to 4, it is expected to reduce air pollution and human damage due to clogging of internal parts, and it is expected to reduce maintenance costs such as regular cleaning or replacement of parts.

  • To overcome the undesirable deformation, peeling off and geometrical restrictions which were mainly caused by differences in thermal expansion coefficients during the cladding of aluminum strip and stainless strip, new processing method based on vacuum die casting is designed and implemented in fabricating Al/Fe-17wt%Cr steel(stainless steel). To increase cast-bonding ability, the surface of Fe-17wt%Cr steel is electrochemically etched to have optimum pit size and density. The optimum conditions to generate best pit are as follows: Solution: 1 M $Fecl_{3}$+1 M Nacl, Addition: $CuCl_{2}+HCl$, Current density: 80 $mA/cm^{2}$, Total current: 400 $coulomb/cm^{2}$, AC frequency :60 Hz.

  • Statement of problem: Titanium has many advantages of high biocompatibility, physical properties, low-weight, low price and radiolucency, but it is incompatible with conventional dental porcelain due to titanium's oxidative nature. Many previous studies have shown that they used the method of sandblast for surface treatment prior to porcelain application, the researches are processing about the method of acid etching or surface coating. Purpose: The purpose of this research is to study the effect on bond strength of surface roughness between titanium and porcelain with the same surface topography. Material and method: In this study, we evaluated the bond strength by using 3-point bending test based on ISO 9693 after classified 8 groups - group P : polished with #1200 grit SiC paper, group S10 : $1.0{\mu}m$ surface roughness with sandblasting, group S15 : $1.5{\mu}m$ surface roughness with sandblasting, group S20 : $2.0{\mu}m$ surface roughness with sandblasting, group S25 : $2.5{\mu}m$ surface roughness with sandblasting, group S30 : $3.0{\mu}m$ surface roughness with sandblasting, group S35 : $3.5{\mu}m$ surface roughness with sandblasting, group E : $1.0{\mu}m$ surface roughness with HCl etching. Results: Within the confines of our research, the following results can be deduced. 1. In the results of 3-point bending test, the bond strength of sandblasting group showed significant differences from one of polishing group, acid etching group(P<.05). 2. The bond strength of sandblasting groups did not show significant differences. 3. After surface treatments, the group treated with sandblasting showed irregular aspect formed many undercuts, in the SEM photographs. The bond strength of sandblasting group was higher than 25 MPa, the requirement of ISO 9693. Conclusion: In above results, bond strength of titanium and low-fusing porcelain is influenced more to surface aspect than surface roughness. And titanium has clinically acceptable bond strength below surface roughness of $3.5{\mu}m$.

  • In this study, the electrochemical characteristics of porous silicon/carbon composite anode were investigated to improve the cycle stability and rate performance in lithium ion batteries. In this study, the effect of TEOS and $NH_3$ concentration, mixing speed and temperature on particle size of nano silica was investigated using $St{\ddot{o}}ber$ method. Nano porous Si/C composites were prepared by the fabrication processes including the synthesis of nano $SiO_2$, magnesiothermic reduction of nano $SiO_2$ to obtain nano porous Si by HCl etching, and carbonization of phenolic resin. Also the electrochemical performances of nano porous Si/C composites as the anode were performed by constant current charge/discharge test, cyclic voltammetry and impedance tests in the electrolyte of $LiPF_6$ dissolved inorganic solvents (EC:DMC:EMC=1:1:1vol%). It is found that the coin cell using nano porous Si/C composite has the capacity of 2,006 mAh/g and the capacity retention ratio was 55.4% after 40 cycle.

In the porous surfaces, the control specimen showed spherical particles of titanium alloy and its surface have a few shallow ridges. The roughness of surfaces conditioned with tetracycline-HCI was lessened and seen crater-like irregular surfaces relative to the application time. In conclusion, pure titanium machined surfaces and SLA surfaces weren't changed irrespective of the application time of tetracycline-HCI solution. But the porous surfaces conditioned with tetracycline-HCI solution began to be slightly changed from 2 min. This results are expected to be applied to the regenerative procedures for peri-implantitis treatment.

  • Wet chemical analysis (for $MnO_2$, MnO, and $H_2O$(+)) and electron microprobe analysis (for $Fe_2O_3$ and PbO) give $MnO_2$ 74.91, MnO 11.33, $Fe_2O_3$ (total Fe) 4.19, PbO 0.03, $H_2O$ (+) 9.46, sum 99.92%. 'Available oxygen determined by oxalate titration method is allotted to $MnO_2$ from total Mn, and the remaining Mn is calculated as MnO. Traces of Ba, Ca, Mg, K, Cu, Zn, and Al were found. Li and Na were not found. The existence of (OH) is verified from the infrared absorption spectra. The analysis corresponds to the formula $Mn^{4+}{_{4.85}}(Mn^{2+}{_{0.90}}Fe^{3+}{_{0.30}})_{1.20}O_{8.09}(OH)_{5.91}$, on the basis of O=14, 'or ideally $Mn^{4+}{_{5-x}}(Mn^{2+},Fe^{3+})_{1+x}O_{8}(OH)_{6}$ ($x{\approx}0.2$). X-ray single crystal study could not be made because of the distortion of single crystals. But the x-ray powder pattern is satisfactorily indexed by an orthorhombic cell with a 9.324, b 14.05, c $7.956{\AA}$., Z=4. DTA curve shows the endothermic peaks at $250-370^{\circ}C$ and $955^{\circ}C$. The former is due to the dehydration: and oxidation forming$(Mn,\;Fe)_2O_3$(cubic, a $9.417{\AA}$), and the latter is interpreted as the formation of a hausmannite-type oxide (tetragonal, a 5.76, c $9.51{\AA}$) from $(Mn,\;Fe)_2O_3$. Infrared absorption spectral curve shows Mn-O stretching vibrations at $515cm^{-1}$ and $545cm^{-1}$, O-H bending vibration at $1025cm^{-1}$ and O-H stretching vibration at $3225cm^{-1}$. Opaque. Reflectance 13-15%. Bireflectance distinct in air and strong in oil. Reflection pleochroism changes from whitish to light grey. Between crossed nicols, color changes from yellowish brown with bluish tint to grey in air and yellowish brown to grey through bluish brown in oil. No internal reflections. Etching reactions: HCl(conc.) and $H_2SO_4+H_2O_2$-grey tarnish; $SnCl_2$(sat.)-dark color; $HNO_3$(conc.)-grey color; $H_2O_2$-tarnish with effervescence. It is black in color. Luster dull.
