  • LINS (Laser Inertial Navigation System) consists of RLG (Ring Laser Gyroscopes)/accelerometers and provides real-time navigation information to the target system. Therefore it is very important to make a decision in the real time whether LINS is in the normal operation or not. That is called a fault detection method. In this paper, we propose the fault detection method of LINS based on the overlapping model. We also show that the fault detection probability is increased through overlapping the hardware model and the software model. It is verified through the long-term operation and RAM (Reliability Availability Maintainability) analysis of LINS that the fault detection method proposed in this paper is able to detect about 97% of probable system failures.

  • In general, open-loop fiber-optic gyroscopes (FOG) are less stable than closed-loop FOGs but they offer simpler implementation. The typical operation time of line-of-sight (LOS) stabilization systems is a few seconds to one hour. In this paper, a open-loop fiber optic gyroscope (FOG) for LOS applications is designed and implemented. The design goal is aimed at implementing a low cost, compact FOG with low Angle Random Walk (ARW) (< $0.03deg/\sqrt{h}$) and bias instability (< 0.25deg/h). The FOG uses an open-loop all-fiber configuration with 100M PM fiber wound on a small diameter spool. In order to get the design goal, digital signal processing techniques for signal detection, modulation control and compensation are designed and implemented in FPGA.

  • The determination of the pose of the imaging camera is a fundamental problem in computer vision. In the monocular case, difficulties in determining the scene scale and the limitation to bearing-only measurements increase the difficulty in estimating camera pose accurately. Many mobile phones now contain inertial measurement devices, which may lend some aid to the task of determining camera pose. In this study, by means of simulation and real-world experimentation, we explore an approach to monocular camera localization that incorporates both observations of the environment and measurements from accelerometers and gyroscopes. The unscented Kalman filter was implemented for this task. Our main contribution is a novel approach to landmark initialization in a Kalman filter; we characterize the tolerance to noise that this approach allows.

  • This paper is to investigate theoretically position fixing by using gyroscopic inertia of free gyroscope. with respect to a reference position or starting point, the changes of the inclination angle of the spin axes and the elapsed time are taken a measurement. By using the two basic factors like changes of angles a position is fixed.

  • This paper presents an three dimension attitude of inertial navigation system(INS) for managing a transporter in shipyard by using low-cost inertial sensors. The GPS(Global Positioning System) shade field prevents from receiving information of position through GPS satellites, GIS(Geographic Information System) in shipyard, therefore TNS system plays an important part. This system is composed of tiny low-cost gyroscopes, accelerometers and a magnetic compass, and 3-dimension position is estimated by an indirect Kalman filter using the outputs of these inertial sensors.

  • We propose a filter design method to suppress the effect of gyroscope mixed random errors at INS system level. It is based on the result that mixed random errors can be represented by a single equivalent ARMA model. At first step, the time difference of equivalent ARMA process is performed, which consider the characteristic of indirect feedback Kalman filter used in INS filter. Next, a state space conversion of time differenced ARMA model is achieved. If the order of AR is greater than that of MA, the controllable or observable canonical form is used. Otherwise, we introduce the state equation of which the state variable is composed of the ARMA model output and several step ahead predicts of that. At final step, a complete form state equation is presented. The simulation results shows that the proposed method gives less transient error and better convergence compared to the conventional filter which assume the mixed random errors as white noise.

  • Internet of Things (IoT) is widely used for biomechanics in sports activities and AHRS(Attitude and Heading Reference System) is a more cost effective solution than conventional high-grade IMUs (Inertial Measurement Units) that only integrate gyroscopes. In this paper, we attach the AHRS to the snowboard to measure the motion data like Air To Fakie, Caballerial and Free Style. In order to reduce the measurement error, we have adopted the sensors equipped with Kalman filtering and also used Euler angle to quaternion conversion to reduce the Gimbal-lock effect. We have tested and evaluated the accuracy and execution time of the pattern recognition algorithms like PCA, ICA, LDA, SVM to show the recognition possibility of it on the basic motions of Snowboarding from the 9-axis trajectory information which is gathered from AHRS sensor. With the result, PCA, ICA have low accuracy, but SVM have good accuracy to use for recognition of basic motions of Snowboarding.

  • A vehicle simulator is made here to simulate the lateral control of vehicles. Dead-reckoning sensors which consist of gyroscopes and accelerometers are utilized for the positioning of it. A significant side-slip occurs when the developed vehicle is drove autonomously. To cope with the side-slip, the vehicle is steered to follow the reference yaw rate which is generated by the relationship between the target point and the position of vehicle. The experimental results show the good performances of lane tracking and the passenger comfort.

  • A foot motion is estimated using an inertial sensor unit, which is installed on a shoe. The inertial sensor unit consists of 3 axis accelerometer and 3 axis gyroscopes. Attitude and position of a foot are estimated using an inertial navigation algorithm. To increase estimation performance, a smoother is used, where the smoother employs a forward and backward filter structure. An indirect Kalman filter is used as a forward filter and backward filter. A new combining algorithm for the smoother is proposed to combine a forward indirect Kalman filter and a backward indirect Kalman filter. Through experiments, the estimation performance of the proposed smoother is verified.

  • This paper presents a foot movement tracking system using ultrasonic sensors and inertial sensors, where the position and velocity of foot are computed using inertial sensors and ultrasonic sensors mounted on a shoe. A foot movement can be estimated using an inertial navigation algorithm only; however, the error tends to increase due to biases of gyroscopes and accelerometers. To reduce the error, a localization system using ultrasonic sensors is additionally used. In the localization system using ultrasonic sensors, the position is continuously calculated in the absolute coordinate. An indirect Kalman filter is used to combine inertial sensors and ultrasonic sensors. Through experiments, it is shown that the proposed system can track a foot movement.
