R-curves, fracture resistance (KR) as a function of crack extension (Δa), of a gas-pressure sintered monolithic Si3N4 were determined by controlled flaw/strength technique. Rising R-curve behavior was observed, confirming the operation of microstructural toughening process during crack growth. The R-curve parameters, k and m in the equation, KR=k(Δa)m, were determined to 30.301 and 0.1146, respectively. Microstructural observation of growing crack revealed that the bridging in the crack wake by unbroken ligament of large elongated ${\beta}$-grains was the mechanism primarily for the rising R-curve behavior.
This study was conducted to estimate the growth curve parameters of crossbreds between Korean native boars and Landrace sows and their relationships with meat qualities. The data used were weight-age data and carcass data from 131 males and 122 females raised at N.L.R.I in Korea. Growth curve parameters were estimated from nonlinear regression using Gompertz model individually. Average mature weight(A), average maturing rate(k), and average inflection point(u) showing maximum growth rate estimated were 179.54${\pm}$6.06kg, 0.3154${\pm}$0.0059, and 5.50${\pm}$0.11 months in females, and 179.84${\pm}$6.33kg, 0.3049${\pm}$0.0061, and 5.24${\pm}$0.13 months in males, respectively. For the growth curve parameters and derived statistics, the phenotypic correlations of maturing rate with gain rate at inflection, mature weight, and inflection point were - .30, - .77, and - .93 in male, and - .31, - .78 and - .94 in female, respectively. Matrure weight was positively correlated to the inflection point as + .89 in both male and female, indicating that late maturing pigs with lower k had longer maturing period with increasing gain rate and reached point of inflection later than early maturing pigs with higher k, and grew to larger mature weight. Backfat thickness and erode fat contents were correlated with mature weight positively in male and negatively in female, and correlated with gain rate at inflection point positively in both male and female, of which coefficients were as high as .42 and .50 in male, respectively.
The purpose of this research is to obtain a Simple Logistic Curve for the curve fitting of Korean total Population. Based on the population census data from 1949 to 1990, the parameters are estimated by 3-group method. As the results, intercensal populations of Korea from 1950 to 190 are estimated, and Korean total populations from 1991 to 2010 A.D. are projected. And we also can suggest the upper asymptote 58, 616 thousands of Korean total population.
The aim of this study was to describe growth patterns of mice using Gompertz model. Two distinct types of mice, laboratory mouse $CF_{\sharp1}$ (Mus musculus domesticus) and Yonakuni wild mouse (Yk, Mus musculus molossinus yonakuni) were used. From all possible crosses, there were two parental types and two reciprocal $F_1$ crosses obtained. Individual body weights were measured weekly from birth to ten weeks of age on 321 mice. Standardization to six mice was conducted and only first litters were used. Growth curve parameters were estimated to fit growth data. The results showed that growth among genetic groups were significantly different (p < 0.05) for both sexes, in which parental type of $CF_{\sharp1}$ and Yk had the highest and the smallest values, respectively. Meanwhile, reciprocal $F_1$ crosses were intermediate between parental types. It was concluded that Gompertz model provided and excellent fit for the growth data with a high coefficient determination $(R^2 = 0.999)$.
This paper suggests a new criterion for testing the general linear hypothesis about coefficients in multivariate growth curve model. It is developed from a Bayesian point of view using the highest posterior density region methodology. Likelihood ratio test criterion(LRTC) by Khatri(1966) results as an approximate special case. It is shown that under the simple case of vague prior distribution for the multivariate normal parameters a LRTC-like criterion results; but the degrees of freedom are lower, so the suggested test criterion yields more conservative test than is warranted by the classical LRTC, a result analogous to that of Berger and Sellke(1987). Moreover, more general(non-vague) prior distributions will generate a richer class of tests than were previously available.

(100) ZnSe crystals with twin and grain free were grown by vapor transport method. The defect in (100) ZnSe crystals was investigated by FWHM of X-ray Rocking Curve. The growth rate and seed quality are the main parameters of the growth process to obtain the high quality ZnSe crystals. The geometric shape of the grown (100) ZnSe crystal is dependent on the shape of seed, isothermal line in furnace and the growth rate of each surface in crystal.
The objective of this study was to estimate the parameters of Gompertz growth curves with the measurements of body conformation, real-time ultrasound longissimus dorsi muscle area (LMA) and backfat thickness (BFT) in Hanwoo cows. The Hanwoo cows (n = 3,373) were born in 97 Hanwoo commercial farms in the 17 cities or counties of Gyeongbuk province, Korea, between 2000 and 2007. A total of 5,504 ultrasound measurements were collected for the cows at the age of 13 to 165 months in 2007 and 2008. Wither height (HW), rump height (HR), the horizontal distance between the top of the hips (WH), and girth of chest (GC) were also measured. Analysis of variance was conducted to investigate variables affecting LMA and BFT. The effect of farm nested in location was included in the statistical model, as well as the effects of HW, HR, WH, and GC as covariates. All of the effects were significant in the analysis of variance for LMA and BFT (p<0.01), except for the HR effect for LMA. The two ultrasound measures and the four body conformation traits were fitted to a Gompertz growth curve function to estimate parameters. Upper asymptotic weights were estimated as $54.0cm^2$, 7.67 mm, 125.6 cm, 126.4 cm, 29.3 cm, and 184.1 cm, for LMA, BFT, HW, HR, WH, and GC, respectively. Results of ultrasound measurements showed that Hanwoo cows had smaller LMA and greater BFT than other western cattle breeds, suggesting that care must be taken to select for thick BFT rather than an increase of only beef yield. More ultrasound records per cow are needed to get accurate estimates of growth curve, which, thus, helps producers select animals with high accuracy.
Studies present a guide to parameter estimation of software reliability models using SAS JMP. In this paper, we consider only software reliability growth model(SRGM), where mean value function has a S-shaped growth curve, such as Yamada et al. model, and ohba inflection model. Besides these stochastic SRGM, deterministic SRGM's, by fitting Logistic and Gompertz growth curve, have been widely used to estimate the error content of software systems. Introductions or guide lines of JMP are concerned. Estimation of parameters of Yamada et al. model and Logistic model is accomplished by using JMP. The differences between Yamada et al. model and Logistic model is accomplished by using JMP. The differences between Yamada et al. model and Logistic model is discussed, along with the variability in the estimates or error sum of squares. This paper have shown that JMP can be an effective tool I these research.
Some growth curve models were used to fit individual growth of 1,083 Hanwoo cows born from 1970 to 2001 in Daekwanryeong branch, National Livestock Research Institute(NLRI). The effects of year-season of birth and age of dam were analyzed. In analysis of variance for growth curve parameters, the effects of birth year-season were significant for mature weight(A), growth ratio(b) and maturing rate(k)(P〈.01). The effects of age of dam were significant for growth ratio(b) but not significant for mature weight(A) and maturing rate(k). The linear term of the covariate of age at the final weights was significant for the A(P〈.01) and k(P〈.01) of Gompertz model, von Bertalanffy model and Logistic model. For the growth curve parameters fitted on individual data using Gompertz model, von Bertalanffy model and Logistic model, resulting the linear contrasts(fall-spring), Least square means of A in three nonlinear models were higher cows born at fall and A of Logistic model was significant(P〈.05) between the seasons. According to the results of the least square means of growth curve parameters by age of dam, least square means of mature weight(A) in Gompertz model was largest in 6 year and smallest estimating for 3 and 8 years of age of dam. The growth ratio(b) was largest in 2 year of age of dam and smallest estimating in 8 year. The A and k were not different by age of dam(p〉.05), On the other hand, the b was different by age of dam(p〈.01). The estimate of A in von Bertalanffy model was largest in 6 year and smallest in 8 and 9 years of age of dam. The b was largest in 2 year and tend to decline as age of dam increased. The A and k were not different by age of dam(p〉.05), On the other hand, the b was highly significant by age of dam(p〈.01).

Growth curves are widely used in forecasting the market demand. When there are only a few data points available, the estimated model parameters have a low confidence. In this case, if some expert opinions are available, it would be better for predicting future demand to adjust the model parameters using these information. This paper proposes the methodology for re-estimation of model parameters in growth curves when adjusting market potential and/or time of maximum sales. We also provide the detailed procedures for five growth curves including Bass, Logistic, Gompertz, Weibull and Cumulative Lognormal models. Applications to real data are also included.
