Background and objective: The purpose of this study was to provide basic data on trees that can be used for planting design and construction for permanently shaded areas by grasping the growth status of trees according to the daylight conditions of the outdoor spaces of apartment complexes. Methods: On the recently completed apartment complexes, daylight conditions were analyzed by using daylight simulations utilizing Solar Access Analysis of Ecotect Analysis. With a criteria for assessment of tree condition, the defect rate of trees planted in permanently shaded areas and green spaces with good daylight conditions was analyzed to suggest trees applicable to permanently shaded areas. The first tree survey was conducted from November 18, 2019 to February 15, 2020, focusing on trees planted in permanently shaded areas, and the second tree survey of all the trees planted on the study sites including permanently shaded areas was conducted from March 16 to March 30, 2020. Results: Evergreen trees which are classified as shade intolerant trees including Pinus densiflora, Thuja occidentalis, and Abies holophylla showed a higher defect rate of trees among the trees planted in permanently shaded areas. Taxus cuspidata, Zelkova serrata, Cornus kousa, Chionanthus retusus and Acer palmatum which are classified as shade tolerant trees and shade moderate tolerance trees seemed to be able to be used in the plant design of permanently shaded areas in apartment complexes because the trees showed good growth and a low tree defect rate. In addition, although it was excluded from the analysis due to a small number of samples, Sorbus commixta and Prunus cerasifera var. atropurpurea also can be used for planting in permanently shaded areas. Conclusion: The daylight simulation technique used to analyze permanent shaded areas in this study can be used as an analysis tool considering the daylight environment at the stages of design and construction, and additional research will be required to analyze tree growth according to daylight conditions through data accumulation and monitoring by managing records throughout the entire life cycle of trees in the process of planting and maintenance.
The purpose of this study was to provide basic data of the growth characteristics of the landscape trees for better landscape planting design, construction and maintenance through the prediction of landscape change as time passes fly the analysis of survival rate, distribution patterns & increment percent of tree height, width, stem diameter (breast or surface) of widely used six tree species in Seongnam-si Eunhang-jugong apartment housing areas (8 years have passed after landsape alanting work). The main results can be summarized as followed. The tree survival rate of Pinus parviflora was the highest rate 89.2% than any other species, but Acer buergerianum showed the lowest survival rate at that of it 35.0%, & that of Picea abies 70.5 %, Metasequoia glyptostroboides 71.6%, Maknolia denudata 38.9%, Acer paimatum was 71.7%, As a whole, the tree survival rate of coniferous trees were relatively high. The tree height increment percent of the deciduous species wert relatively high. And that of Metasequoia glyptostroboides was the highest rate 11.61% than any other species, but that of Magnolia denudata was the lowest rate 5.59% than any other species. According to this results, the increment percent of trees in this apartment areas were comparatively lower than that of each related species planted in nursery area. And this results would be considered when landscape experts do landscape planting design, construction & maintenance. The distribution patterns of present tree size showed a Normal Distribution like any other biological features.

Kalopanax septemlobus (Thunb. ex Murray) Koidz. is natively distributed in Korea. The importance of this species has been increased not only for high quality timber but for medicinal and edible uses. However, increasing market demand of K. septemlobus with illegal cutting and overexploitation has resulted in its rapid depletion and destruction of natural habitat. This study was conducted to understand the survival rate and growth characteristics of planted K. septemlobus seedlings with treatment of root pruning, stem cutting and planting density. The survival rate and growth of height and root-collar diameter for one- and two-year old seedlings with different planting densities were investigated in the clear-cut area of a Pinus densiflora stand for five years. One-year-old seedlings were treated with or without root pruning and planted with three density levels (5,000 trees $ha^{-1}$, 10,000 trees $ha^{-1}$, and 40,000 trees $ha^{-1}$). Two-year-old seedlings were treated with and without stem cutting and planted with the density of 5,000 trees $ha^{-1}$. The survival rate of one-year-old seedlings with root pruning treatment in the density of 10,000 trees $ha^{-1}$ was 92%, while that without root pruning in the density of 40,000 trees $ha^{-1}$ was 67% after five years. The height of one-year-old seedlings has been significantly affected only by planting density in the $5^{th}$ year. The survival rate of the two-year-old seedlings with stem cutting was 75.5% and greater than control (67.3%) in the $5^{th}$ year but no difference in height was shown between the two treatments from three years after plantation.

This study was conducted to calculate the optimum height of trees, estimating a model for the prediction of tree growth for the landscape improvement of the Gyeonghoeru area. For the verification of measures for management, this study conducted a photographic survey of the Gyeonghoeru area and used the Pressler's formula to examine the growth rate of the pine forest of Mansesan. The results of the study are as follows. First, as a result of a field survey and landscape analysis, trees in the Gyeonghoeru area are large ones with more than a diameter at breast height of 30cm, except for weeping cherry trees and persimmon trees, and especially, it is necessary to manage them or replace with small trees through the landscape of Mansesan, which screens the landscape and pruning the trees in the terraced flower garden in the north. Second, as a result of a measurement of the growth rate of trees, for 10 years on average, they grew up by 14% in source diameter and 5% in tree height 5% in south of Mansesan and by 7% in source diameter and 2.4% in tree height in the north of Mansesan. Furthermore, when a simulation was prepared based on the measured growth rate of trees, it was found out that 20 years later, on the landscape on the second floor of Gyeonghoeru, the pine forest of Mansesan would cut off the skyline of Mt. Inwang-san. Third, this study analyzed a landscape improvement simulation and proposed a plan for tree management to take a view of the landscape of the Gyeonghoeru area. This study has a significance that it drew an efficient planting maintenance policy, considering the landscape characteristics of the Gyeonghoeru area.

This study is determined by tree vigor of analyzing of each object's growth condition in Locational Characteristics and compare the result with impediment extent rate in crown area to provide the management Study about the influence of man-made structures in numbers of protected trees. 68 places where are in the list of Kimpo protected trees were researched in Natural environments, vital degree of trees, number of trees. Crown area was calculated surveying it around the directions of North, East, South and West branching out. Impediment in the area was analyzed after classified into artificial impediment like paved surface(ascon, concrete, block, etc.), a building and a breast wall and natural impediment like soil, stonework and gravel and conclusions are as follow. In analyzing of natural environments, he ground where protected trees have located is consist of 72.05 of manmade structure and artificial in all. There are many protected trees which have less space than crown area for growth suggested by Woo-kyung Sim and Se-kyun Shin in 1992. And it was analyzed that making growth space for protected trees and management of impediment are urgently needed because of that the proportion of impediment covering the crown area has increased as cities are becoming more urbanized results in transforming of trees and weakness of tree vigor. This research shows that under 20% of in crown area is tree vigor determination 1-2 grade 21-50% under is 2-3 grade, higher than 50% is 3-5 grade. More impediment have more difficulty for growing, with the management of root system of protected trees need to be under 20% of rate of land is necessary was improved. As follows are suggested about the standard of management in artificial impediment which influence the number of trees. Firstly, impediment in crown area must be restricted under 20%, but in case outside of the area is not artificial the rate could be higher considerable. Secondly, protected trees growth space secured as much as crown area and impediment must be installed outside the crown area. Thirdly, to move the protected trees, condition of growth space secure must be considered. Fourthly, to develope land, the area around protected trees should be utilized in a park, the area of impediment installation in crown area should be limited as well. Fifthly, As many shown in previous research, for the improvement of old big trees and protected trees, need the tax favor of landowner and purchase of around land, to manage, it needs the budget of local government and advice of expert. Also the study on how various kind of impediment nearby protected trees influence on them has to be continued.
A study on the wood quality from planted Pinus koraiensis Sieb. et Zucc. has been undertaken by the University Forest in order to gain results of the gross structural features of stem. For this study some groups of trees were felled and several characteristics such as the degree of stem, slenderness, eccentric growth, heartwood diameter, height of butt sweep and butt-swell were analyzed. The results of the study are as follows. 1) The relation between diameter of log and its height in sample trees are nearly parallel to each other. But their degrees of slenderness in logs cut from intermediate and codominant trees are some what gentle as compared with that of logs from dominant tree. 2) The eccentric growth at transverse section of sample trees is generally decreased with the increase of tree height on all sample trees. 3) On the eccentric growth at transverse section of tree, a rather distinct tendency was noticed that all of sample trees showed the direction of eccentric growth in $R_2$ side. 4) Heartwood diameter appeares to become larger as tree growth decrease under same diameter of logs and log diameter in which heartwood appeares is larger in rapid growth rate trees. 5) The maximum height of butt-sweep generally shows that the larger the breast height diameter of tree is, the smaller its height becomes. On the contrary it was noticed that the larger the breast height diameter of trees, the higher the maximum height of butt-swell became. The direction of butt-sweep and butt-swell were shown in $R_1$ side in all sample trees.

To select fruit trees for urban garden with Elaeagnus umbellata var. coreana, Malus domestica 'Alps Otome', Prunus mume, Ribes nigrum, Rubus fructicosus, and Vaccinium corymbosum 'Reka', growth characteristics of these 6 species were compared and effect of trickle irrigation and shading on the growth of these fruit trees were investigated that these treatments were carried out how much these trees are endurable exposed to improper conditions. After passing the winter, E. umbellata var. coreana, M. domestica 'Alps Otome', P. mume, and V. corymbosum 'Reka' showed the highest survival rate, in contrast to R. nigrum with the lowest of 56.0%. In 9 months after planting, the hight growth rate of 62.3% was shown in P. mume but that of E. umbellata var. coreana was stagnant during experimental period. Flowering rate over 80.0% were shown in E. umbellata var. coreana, M. domestica 'Alps Otome', R. fructicosus, and V. corymbosum 'Reka'. On the other hand, R. nigrum has not ever flowering branches. Other species except E. umbellata var. coreana and R. nigrum have about 10 days in flowering duration. After flowering, fruition rate has shown significant difference among 6 species. As a result of both treatment of trickle irrigation and shading, leaf area and leaf weight of E. umbellata var. coreana, M. domestica 'Alps Otome' significantly inceased with treatments that have not affected other species. Based on these result, it is possible to deploy suitable fruit trees to specific garden condition after selecting various fruit trees.
This study was carried out to analyze annual diameter growth characteristics for major 11 tree species using the data for Gangwon province of the National Forest Resources Inventory in 2007. The annual diameter growth of coniferous species was 5.02 mm, 4.70 mm, and 3.90 mm in Korean white pine, Japanese larch, and Korean red pine, respectively. In growths of the deciduous trees, dogwood, basswood, and cork oak had 3.55 mm, 3.48 mm and 3.01 mm, respectively. Average of the annual diameter growths for all species was 3.38 mm. The relationship between diameter growth and age class showed that the growth rate decreased for all species as age increased. The age class II had the highest annual diameter rate. In relation of the stand density(trees per hectare) and diameter growth, the diameter growth tended to decrease as the stand density increased for most species, especially Korean white pine, cork oak, and basswood. Finally age had the highest value in the correlation coefficients between measurement factor and growth rate regardless of species.

This study was investigated a optimum planting density of urban public park in seoul. Eight species commonly usd as landscape plants were selected. The survey was conducted to measure hight and width of the trees by five years interval. The results are summarized as follows. The average annual growth rates of the trees after planting were 7.4% in height 11.7% in width. Faster grown trees than average growth rate of the survey tres wee Metasequoia, glyptostroboides and Acer buergerianum, While the slower grown trees were Pinus koraiensis, Ginkgo biloba and Zelkova serrata. The average grown trees were Pinus strobus, Pinus densiflora and Acer palmatum . The planting density of survey area was 0.20tree/$m^2$. The optimum planting density was kept until five years after planting, however overcrowding density was found beyond five years after planting. This study also found the density of ten years after planting reaches about 3 times of optimum density.
This study aims tried to present develop a management plan for about old and big trees and legally protected trees by investigating through the present the current status and the distribution of the legally protected trees and old and big tree that range in Gwangju, South Korea. The number of legally protected plants that distributed in Gwangju City is 68 individual trees from 9 species. The largest number was found in Gwangsan-gu (18 trees). The total number of the old and big trees that are distributed in Gwangju City was confirmed as 155 individual trees from 10 species. It must to be corrected to a correct plant species name that species name is written in review articles incorrectly. The average vitality rate of the legally protected plants was 1.2 and the status of ground was 1.7 on average. And the vitality rate of the old and big trees was 1.3 and the status of ground was 2.0 on average. Vitality are not significantly different between the legally protected trees and old and big trees. Ground status of old and big trees worse than legally protected trees. Gingko biloba (found in Gwangsan-gu Songdaedong Daechon village) was only legally protected plant that requires urgent management due to low vitality rate (between 3.2 and 4.0). Among old and big trees Salix glandulosa which is found in Gwangsan-gu Sansu-dong Gamdong village was only one that requires urgent care. The most important status for the old and big tree is securing minimal space for growth. Therefore, we conclude that the most urgent measure in the management and projection of old and big trees and legally protected plants is removal of asphalt or cement above the surface of root system.
