Effect of Group Psychotherapy for Promotion of Hope on Positive Emotion in Cancer Patients

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to develop a program of group psychotherapy named "the promotion of hope program (PHP)" that will provide effective emotional support for cancer patients. Methods: In order to develop a group counseling program for cancer patients, this study utilized reality therapy based on Oriental medicine theory which is the mind affect the body. We established four steps for making positive changes to individual behavior: creating soil for hope, watering hope, sprouting hope, and the blossoming flower of hope. To verify the effectiveness of the program, we conducted a comparative clinical trial. Patients were divided into two groups by unrestricted randomization: the intervention group (n=20) and the control group (n=17). The members of each group did not exceed seven patients. We divided the trial period into three sections. The intervention group received group psychotherapy twice a week for 4 weeks. The control group watched hope-related videos and talked about members for two hours each week for four weeks. We evaluated the scale of anxiety and depression, self-esteem, and hope, both before and after the examination. Results: PHP decreased the level of anxiety and depression in the intervention group (1.21 vs. 0.75, p<0.01). PHP also improved the level of both self esteem (2.80 vs. 3.34, p<0.01) and hope (2.69 vs. 3.23, p<0.01). In contrast, the control group showed no interval change at any point in time. Conclusion: Following the above results, PHP can be seen as an effective program for helping cancer patients to increase positive emotions and behaviors while reducing negative thoughts.

누리과정과 연계한 유아행복 프로그램이 유아행복과 자아존중감에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Young Children's Happiness Program Linked with Nuri Curriculum on Young Children's Happiness and Self-esteem)

  • This study aimed to investigate the effect of a young children's happiness program in relation with the Nuri curriculum on young children's happiness and self-esteem. Study subjects included 37 children aged 5 (experimental group 20, comparative group 17) enrolled in A day care center and D day care center located in K district, Seoul. As for the research procedure, an experiment was conducted 48 times in 18 weeks, and the experimental group carried out the children's happiness program linked with the Nuri curriculum. In contrast, the comparative group conducted general activities focusing on the subjects according to the Nuri curriculum. Study results show that there was a significant difference amongst 9 sub-domains related to young children's happiness (health, emotion, immersion, recognition and achievement, parent-child relationship, teacher-child relationship, peer relationship, spirituality, life satisfaction) and 3 sub-domains related to self-esteem (start and spirit of independence, sociality emotionality, academic achievement). Results of this study prove that the children's happiness program in relation with the Nuri curriculum is effective for increasing young children's happiness and self-esteem, and could be used as preliminary data for the possibility of a happiness program in early childhood education settings and happiness education in the future.

창의적 체험활동과 연계한 초등학교 지속가능발전교육 프로그램의 개발과 적용 (The Development and Application of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Program related to Creative-Experience Activity for Elementary School Students)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the ESD program related to creative-experience activity, and to examine the effect of its application. The program was composed of 13 sessions for fifth-grade class in elementary school, including all of the environmental, economic, and social aspects of ESD. This program was connected to the domains of creative hands-on activities, that is, career activities, club activities, self-regulated activities and voluntary service activities. The results was as follows. First, the experimental group to undergo the ESD program related to creative-experience activity did not show significant differences in environmental literacy compared to the control group, but it is proven that this program contributed to the improvement of learners' environmental emotion, skill, and participation. Second, the experimental group did not show significant differences in scientific attitude compared to the control group, but it was considered to affect the elementary students' criticism, self-esteem, and patience in positive and effective manner. In conclusion, more ESD program that cultivate elementary school students' environmental literacy need to be developed continuously, and more intensive research should be conducted to earn better understanding of ESD.

Analysis of Preferable Café Interior Design Using Human Sensibility Ergonomics For Different Age Groups

  • Maximizing profit is the most significant object of commercial places. Especially for some places where its atmosphere is main concern of customers like $Caf{\acute{e}}s$, interior design is crucial. Thus it needs to evaluate human emotion and preference. Human Sensibility Ergonomics which is recently signified in various fields is an attempt to quantitatively analyze factors of human sensibility and apply it to design operation. This study attempted to infuse human sensibility ergonomics into $Caf{\acute{e}}$ interior design and analyzed preferable $Caf{\acute{e}}$ interior design factors. Because most $Caf{\acute{e}}s$ have their own target customers, so we assumed four different target customer groups divided by their age and gender groups in each age group. As a result, the difference of each group could be examined. Middle-aged group and males have main interest in the intensity of luminance, i.e. the brightness, whereas youths and females attach importance to both quality of light and color. In addition, there is a tendency for middle-aged group and males to see $Caf{\acute{e}}$ as a public place while young people and females recognize $Caf{\acute{e}}$ as a place for entertainment. Taking the result of this study into consideration can lead to successful $Caf{\acute{e}}$ interior design for specific target customers.

암환자와 그 가족의 가족레질리언스 강화 프로그램 개발과 효과성 검증 (A Study on the Development and Effectiveness Verification of a Program Designed to Strengthen Family Resilience of Inpatients with Cancer and Their Families)

  • This study aims to develop a program for enhancing family resilience in cancer patients along with their family members and verify its effectiveness. The subjects were inpatients with cancer and their families, totaling 46 subjects at an university hospital in Busan. They were divided into two groups, the participating group who were in an experiment and the control group who were not taking part in the experiment. Then family resilience was measured before and after completing the program sessions. The program was conducted once a week, 4 times, for two hours. The participating group of family resilience strengthening program showed higher family resilience compared with that of the control group. The results suggest that family resilience can be enhanced through adversity. It also verifies that family resilience of family members with cancer patients can be strengthened by expressing emotion, conveying deep affection, and sufficiently supporting one another through the family resilience strengthening approach.

공황장애 환자에서 범불안장애 공존 유무에 따른 임상적 특징 비교 (A Comparison of the Clinical Characteristics of Panic Disorder with and without Generalized Anxiety Disorder)

  • Objective : This study aimed to investigate differences in demographic, clinical characteristics, and quality of life between panic-disorder patients with generalized anxiety disorder (PD+GAD) and without generalized anxiety disorder (PD-GAD). Methods : We examined data from 218 patients diagnosed with PD+GAD (150 patients) and PD-GAD (68patients). The following instruments were applied: Stress coping strategies, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Panic Disorder Severity Scale (PDSS), Anxiety Sensitivity Index-Revised (ASI-R), Albany Panic and Phobia Questionnaire (APPQ), NEO-neuroticism(NEO-N), Short Form health survey-36 (SF-36). Results : Compared to the PD-GAD group, the PD+GAD group had higher scores in emotion-focused coping strategies and clinical severity, such as BDI, BAI, PDSS, ASI, APPQ, and neuroticism. The PD+ GAD group showed lower scores in most scales in SF-36 status than PD-GAD group. Conclusions : This study shows that PD+GAD patients are different from PD-GAD patients in coping strategies, clinical severity and quality of life. It emphasizes the need of personalized therapy in clinical approach among patients with PD+GAD.

실버 제품의 거부감에 관한 연구 - 전동 휠체어를 통한 검증 - (The Research of Disapproval in Silver Products - Testified via Electric Wheelchair -)

  • 고령화 사회에 대한 준비가 여러 다양한 분야에서 진행되고 있으며, 사회 각 분야에서도 이에 관련된 사업들이 활발히 진행중에 있다. 또한 일찍 고령화 사회에 진입한 여러 국가들도 실버산업에 관한 계속적인 연구를 통해 고령화 사회의 여러 문제점들을 해결해 나가고 있다. 이러한 이유로 본 연구는 실버제품이 가지는 여러 특성들 중 거부감에 대한 연구를 진행하였다. 일반적으로 거부감은 경험에 의해 장기적으로 형성되어온 감정적 태도라고 할 수 있는데, 이러한 거부감이 실버 그룹과 일반인 그룹에서 어떻게 나타나는지를 연구하였다. 연구를 통해 거부감은 의미적 거부감과 형태적 거부감으로 나타나는 것을 알 수 있었으며, 실버 그룹에서는 형태적 거부감보다는 의미적 거부감에 민감한 반응을 보이고, 일반인 그룹에서는 의미적 거부감과 형태적 거부감에 모두 반응을 하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 결과를 통해 가설을 세우고 이를 검증하기위한 단계로 노인용 전동 휠체어를 통해 가설에 대한 검증을 실시하였다.

관상동맥질환 환자의 심박동변이도 (Heart Rate Variability in Patients with Coronary Artery Disease)

  • 본 연구는 관상동맥 질환(coronary artery disease : CAD) 환자의 심장 부교감신경 활성화가 감소하고, 만성 심부전(chronic heart failure : CHF) 환자의 심박동변이도(heart rate variability : HRV)에서 정상적 RR 간격의 분산(SDNN : standard deviation of all normal RR intervals)과 저주파수 대역의 전력스펙트럼(low-frequency power : LF),그리고 복잡성이 감소하며, CAD환자의 우측으로 누운 자세에서 HRV의 규격화된 고주파수대역의 전력스펙트럼(normalized high-frequency power : nHF)가 3가지 누운 자세 중에서 가장 높다는 사전 정보에 근거하였다. 세 가지 누운 자세에 대한 HRV의 비선형 특징은 알려진 바가 없으므로, 본 연구에서는 관상동맥질환 환자들을 대상으로 누운 자세에서 HRV의 선형과 비선형특성을 조사하였다. 이 목적을 위하여, 관상동맥질환군 29명과 통제군 23명을 대상으로 세 가지 누운 자세에서 심전도의 Lead II 채널을 측정한 뒤, 심전도로부터 심박동변이도의 선형특성(시간영역과 주파수영역)과 비선형특성을 분석하였다. 똑바로 누운 자세 또는 좌측으로 누운 자세에서 심박동변이도의 nHF가 더 작을수록, 이 자세들로부터 우측으로 누운 자세로 전환할 때 nHF가 더욱 증가하였다. 중증의 관상동맥질환 환자의 세 가지 누운 자세 중에서, 우측으로 누운 자세는 심장부교감신경계의 활성도를 가장 높게, 심장교감신경계의 활성도는 가장 낮게, 그리고 생체시스템의 복잡성은 가장 높게 유도함을 확인하였다.

아웃도어 재킷의 기능성표기 행택 유형에 대한 소비자의 이해도 및 선호도 연구 (A Study on Effectiveness of Hang-Tag Type and Preferred Method of Functional Information for Outdoor Jackets)

  • 본 연구는 아웃도어 재킷에 대한 인식에 따라 분류된 소비자 그룹에 대하여 아웃도어 재킷의 행택 타입에 따른 정보 이해도와 기능성 의류제품 정보 표기의 대안적 방법에 대한 선호도의 차이를 고찰하였다. 행택타입에 따른 이해도를 알아보기 위해서 투습방수성능 표현한 네 종류의 행택('그림만으로', '그림+한국어 설명', '그림+외국어설명', '그래프')을 제시하여 행택을 통해 알 수 있는 성능을 답하게 하였다. 기능성 재킷의 인식에 따른 소비자 유형별 분석을 위해, 20-60대 472명의 남녀를 세 그룹('비전문적/브랜드 디자인 추구집단', '전문적/기능성 중시집단', '고가 제품 선호집단')으로 분류한 선행연구의 결과를 적용하여 행택 타입에 대한 이해도와 선호도를 분석하였다. 연구 결과 소비자 유형과 관계없이 '그림만으로' 표기하는 것을 가장 선호하였으며 '그래프' 표기 방법을 가장 선호하지 않았다. 그러나 정답률에 있어서는 '그래프' 표기 방법이 가장 높았으며 소비자 유형 중 특히 '전문적/기능성 중시 집단'에서 높은 것으로 나타나, 기능성 의류를 인식하는 유형에 따라 정보 표기에 대한 이해도와 선호도는 달라질 수 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한 '전문적/기능성 중시 집단'은 대안적 표기 방법에 있어서 '세탁 후의 성능변화' 등과 같이 현재 제공되고 있는 정보보다 더 많은 정보를 표기해 주기를 바라고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같이 기능성 의류를 인식하는 유형에 따라 행택(hang-tag)에 표현 된 성능정보의 표현방법에 따른 이해수준에 있어서 차이를 보였으므로 연령, 성별 등의 단순 인구통계학적 분류보다 타겟층의 특성, 정보를 활용하는 유형, 제품의 특성 등을 종합하여 적합한 표기 방법을 선택하는 것이 필요할 것이다.

인천 지역 대학생의 커피 이용실태와 관련된 식습관, 식이섭취 및 식사의 질 (Dietary habits score, nutrients intake and dietary quality related to coffee consumption of college students in Incheon)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the food habits score, nutrients intake and dietary quality with regard to coffee consumption of college students in Incheon. The data were collected with a self-reports questionnaire with a total of 190 subjects, comprised with 101 male and 89 female college students. We classified these subjects into three groups using percentile of coffee intake to assess the nutrients intake and dietary quality. The correlations among coffee intake, food habits score, nutrients intake and dietary quality were evaluated. The average coffee intake of male and female college students were 156.8 mL and 157.4 mL, respectively. The coffee preferences with respect to specialty coffee were caramel macchiato, cafe latte, americano, cafe mocha, and cappucino in male college students, and caramel macchiato, americano, cafe mocha, cafe latte, and cappucino in female college students, in preference order. The coffee intake motivation score of the high 1/3 percentile group according to coffee intake was higher than that of the low 1/3 percentile group according to coffee intake in emotion motivation and utilitarian motivation. The highest scores were 'flavor and aroma' in emotion motivation, and 'prevention of sleepness' in utilitarian motivation. The average food habits score of "I often eat the natural food" was significantly higher in the low 1/3 percentile group according to coffee intake compared with the other groups (p < 0.05). There was a significantly positive correlation between coffee intake and 'I purchase the processed food after examining nutrition labels' of food habits score (r = 0.280; p < 0.01) in female college students. The energy intake of the high 1/3 percentile group according to coffee intake was significantly higher in that of the moderate 1/3 percentile group according to coffee intake in male college students (p < 0.05). Therefore, it may be necessary for college students to undergo a well-planned nutrition education regarding proper coffee intake, choice of coffee, energy intake related to coffee intake, and dietary habits.
