Whenever negative feelings and emotions such as fear, anxiety, and pain occurred, the program focused on those emotions and observed the outcome. This program, which was based on the results of the preceding studies, was composed of eight courses. Major findings of the study are as follows: First, the meditation group that was composed of patients with chronic pain had significant decrease of physical symptoms compared to the control group. Second, to confirm the outstanding features of the participating patients with chronic pain that brought change in the effect of the program, characteristics of clients were analysed. Third, the program factor that influenced the effectiveness of the treatment process was evident when the training was performed twice a week rather than having once a week of training and second week for homework.

  • Objectives: The aim of the study was to identify the effects of a community-level metabolic syndrome self-care management program. Methods: Data included baseline demographics, abdominal circumference, blood pressure, blood sugar, triglyceride, and HDL-cholesterol collected at 15 public health centers in Seoul from January to March, 2010. A data obtained(584 men and 410 women) from Metabolic Syndrome Management Program in Seoul was analyzed using Paired t-test and Linear mixed model. Results: The group with 6-month intervention resulted in significant decrease in abdominal circumference, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, blood sugar, and triglyceride. In moderate intervention group with 3-month follow-up showed tendency that abdominal circumference(-1.27(${\beta}$)) and diastolic blood pressure(-1.66(${\beta}$)) are significantly reduced. In the group with aggressive intervention, the more counseling led to significant reduction in abdominal circumference(-0.22(${\beta}$)). Conclusions: These results indicate that a self-care for metabolic syndrome management can improve metabolic syndrome status over a short-term period. Further structured research is needed to develop a systematic program on health behaviors focusing on exercise, diet, and intervention.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to provide basic data on the intervention for depression program development and application by analyzing the depression intervention studies for women that were published in Korea Journal (2000~2014). Methods: The research method used was the integrative review. Nine studies were reviewed from the Nursing Articles and National Assembly Library of which 41 studies were from 126 research papers that met the inclusion criteria and analyzed using MINORS (Methodological Index for Non-Randomized Studies) and according to general characteristics. Results: There were non-equivalent control group pre-post test design (78%) in research design. 44% of articles in sample size were 14~26 participants and measuring tools were used CES-D (29%), BDI (I & II, 22%), GDSSF-K (22%). In quality of research according to MINORS, most of the papers got 2 scores except for the items of sample size calculation standard. Even though the similar intervention program were reported, the results could not compare because of diverse contents, duration, methods, and measuring tool with intervention program. As the results, aroma, massage, and counseling programs seemed to have significant effects of depression alleviation. Conclusion: The standard tailored program and measuring tool for depression alleviation of women was needed to develop.

  • The purpose of this study was to relate the degree of hypertension to nutritional status, in order to prepare basic data for a nutrition program. The study using the WHO standard divided the residents in Kangbuk-gu into a normal group (NG) of 254 adults with systolic blood pressure (SBP) < 130 or diastolic blood pressure (DBP) < 85; a borderline hypertensive group (BG) of 81 adults with 130 $\leq$ SBP $\leq$ 140 or 85 $\leq$ DBP $\leq$ 90; and a hypertensive group (HG) of 143 adults with SBP > 140 or DBP > 90. The mean age of HG was older than the other groups (p < 0.001). The dietary intake was investigated by the 24-hour recall method. The Ca intake as the percentage of the Korean Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA) for the HG were higher than that of the other groups (p < 0.01). The Nutrient Adequacy Ratio (NAR) of Ca and Vit. A were below 0.75 for all three groups. The Mean Adequacy Ratio (MAR) was above 0.75 (p > 0.05) for all three groups. The Dietary Variety Score (DVS) of the NG was 22.7, and higher than those of the other groups (p > 0.05) The fasting blood sugar (p < 0.001), total cholesterol (p < 0.001), protein (p < 0.001), albumin (p < 0.01), hemoglobin (Hb) (p < 0.001), alkaline phosphatase (ALP) (p < 0.001), and creatinine (p <0.05) values of the HG were higher than those of the other groups. The Body Mass Index (BMI) and the waist-hip ratio (WHR) of the HG were higher than those of the other groups (p < 0.001) . In conclusion, these results showed that there tended to be differences among the three groups. For effective nutritional education and counseling of each group, we should furtherstudy the differences and understand their characteristics of each group in order to provide nutritional education for controling and preventing hypertension.

The study also intended to provide useful data and information for effective counseling activities in high schools. Normative-descriptive survery method was employed to implement the present study. Won-Shik Jung's standardized self-concept test was used for the measurement of Self Criticism and Self Satisfaction. A questionnaire was used to measure clothing behavior. The subjects were 436 2nd year high school girls at three girl's high schools located in Pocheun, Kyunggi-do and at three girl's high schools located in Dobong-ku and Gangnam-ku, Seoul. The results of the study are as follows: (1) The present high School girls have the sound ability to criticize themselves positively, and they are generally satisfied with themselves. (2) Self criticism affects clothing behavior except practicability and has a bigger influence on the group having the lower score of individuality, fashionability, aesthetics, satisfaction and psychological clothing-dependence than on the group having the higher score of them. The group having the high self criticism score has high individuality, aesthetics, and satisfaction in clothing behavior. Compared with group having low self satisfaction, the group having high self satisfaction has the lower psychological clothing-dependence. (4) Those who are responsible for student guidance program need to keep in mind that one's self-criticism and self-satisfaction level, which are quite difficult to grasp, can be assumed by the observation of characteristics of clothing behavior.
