Community-based group exercise programs for people with chronic stroke are relatively uncommon in Korea. In addition, it is currently not known whether a community-based group exercise program is effective or not. The purpose of this study was to evaluate an 8 week community-based functional exercise program for its effects on balance performance and occupational performance in persons with chronic stroke. Twenty-five community-dwelling individuals with stroke participated in this program. Outcome of the program was assessed by the Berg Balance Scale and the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM). The functional exercise program lasted for eight weeks, with a 1-hour program twice per week and it consisted of mobility, stability, balance, functional strength, and gait training. The subjects were trained by one physical therapist but were under one-to-one supervision from students. The data of sixteen individuals who scored more than 24 on the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) were analyzed. There was a significant effect both in terms of the COPM Performance Score & the Satisfaction Score (p=.002) and with the Berg Balance Score (p=.001). It was found that a short-term community-based exercise program could improve both performance of activities and balance. Further, all subjects reported that they were satisfied with this program.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of self swallowing exercise program with neuromuscular electrical stimulation(NMES) on swallowing function. Methods : Subjects who were diagnosed in dysphagia were randomly divided into the control group or experimental group. Both group were received NMES during 60 minutes with traditional swallowing therapy during 30 minutes. Additionally the experimental group was received self swallowing exercise during 30 minutes. We invested subject's characteristics through medical chart. We used VDS(Videofluoroscopic Dysphagia Scale) and PAS(Penetration Aspiration Scale) for assessing the swallowing function. Results : There were not significantly different in both group's pre swallowing function. The control group was significantly improved on pyriform sinus residue, aspiration, and VDS total score(p<.05). The experimental group was significantly improved on vallecular residue, pyriform sinus residue, and VDS total score(p<.05). Both group's difference of pre and post swallowing function were not significantly different. Conclusion : Self swallowing exercise and traditional swallowing therapy with NMES and traditional swallowing therapy with NMES are positive effect on swallowing function. The self swallowing exercise is not effective factor.
Objective : This study implemented occupation-based practice as a group program for children with neurodevelopmental disabilities, and investigated the quality of occupational performance, performance and satisfaction, and efficacy levels of the program. Methods : ADOC-S(Aid for Decision making in Occupation Choice-School) and COPM(Canadian Occupational Performance Measure) were used to establish common meaningful occupational goals for 10 children with neurodevelopmental disabilities. After occupational analysis of the 'subway use', the Performance Quality Rating Scale(PQRS) were used to evaluate the quality of occupational performance. Occupation-based interventions were implemented by participants individually performing meaningful occupations in the most natural and real-life environments as possible. The trial consisted of 1 session of pre-intervention assessments, 8 sessions of intervention, where a single session of 100 minutes is provided once a week. Post-intervention evaluation was conducted over one session. Results : The quality of occupational performance by PQRS was 38.10 higher than before intervention. The occupation-based intervention as a group program used the maintain and modify(compensation, adaptation) approaches and acquisition model. In the early stages of intervention (1 to 4 sessions), the occupational performance was greatly improved. The performance level of COPM increased by 5.80 and the satisfaction level was increased by 7.00. In addition, high scores were found in program satisfaction through parental interview. Conclusion : The results of implementing occupation-based interventions to children with neurodevelopmental disabilities showed increase in quality of occupational performance, performance, and satisfaction along with positive effects of satisfaction levels for the program.

Objective : Study purpose is to inspect not only the utility of Evaluation of Social Interaction(ESI) but also the efficiency of occupational therapy measurement in program based local community of solitary senior citizen in G region. Methods : Six solitary senior citizen in G region were participating in a community-based program were a convenience sample for this study. The Occupational Therapy Intervention Process Model (OTIPM) provided the theoretical framework. The ESI provided a pre-test performance measure and also served as a guide for an five-week occupational therapy intervention program, and as a post-test to measure intervention effectiveness. Results : This study showed that the ESI was effective in guiding therapist Intervention related to social skill performance of participants during their participation in a community-based program. As a group, the difference between pre and post ESI logit measures was also significant(t=-7.362, p=0.001). Conclusion : The study provides initial considerations for the utility of the ESI to guide intervention related to social skill performance during daily occupations in Korea. It further documents the effectiveness of the ESI in measuring occupational therapy intervention, based on OTIPM, and supports occupational therapy services provided in a community based program context for those solitary senior citizen.

This study proposes the Field Oriented Capacity Upgrade Program, an educational model for improving clinical practice of occupational therapy. The effectiveness of the self-directed learning ability and problem solving ability of students was compared by comparing the proposed educational model with the traditional teaching method. The research method was divided into the experimental group who participated in the model education and the control group who participated in the lecture class, and conducted similar experimental studies using the nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. In addition, the study participants conducted a preliminary and follow-up survey of a total of 135 students who participated in the education over three semesters. As a result of training using the proposed learning method, the experimental group improved self-directed learning ability and problem solving ability by 22% and 18%, respectively, compared to the control group. This study developed and proposed a new teaching-learning method to improve clinical practice of occupational therapy, and it is meaningful as a basic data of teaching-learning method to improve the ability required in various jobs.
This study was to investigate the effects of the sensory-motor training program childhood body concept and to investigate the difference between the control group and experimental group. Subjects of the study were compared with children whose age varied from three to four years old, where I.Q was over 100. The major things of this study was as follows, First, sensory-motor training program was effective with regards to body concept improvement among the three-, four-year-old children. Second, both the experimental group trained by sensory-motor program and the control group trained by cognitive-perceptual training program were revealed a meaningful performance. But, sensory-motor program offering subcognitive sensory body experiences yielded higher mean gains in scores than a cognitive-perceptual program. Sensory-motor learning is more effective than verbal learning is promoting body concept reflected in the ability to draw human figures.
