저토심 인공지반 녹화공법의 경제성 및 도입 가능한 지피식물의 생육특성 (Economics and Ground Cover Growth Characteristics of a New Method of Shallow Soil Artificial Foundation Planting)

  • 본 연구는 저토심형 옥상녹화 시스템 개발을 위하여 제안된 공법의 특징, 경제성, 자생 및 도입 지피식물류의 생육상태를 분석하여 생육 적정성을 파악하고자 하였다. 저토심 인공지반 녹화공법은 세립토양필터가 붙은 1cm 롤형 배수판 위에 7.5cm 두께의 암면매트를 설치, 그 위에 4.5cm의 상토층을 조성하여 배수판을 포함한 전체 토심은 13cm이었다. 설계가 기준으로 공법별 토양층 공사비를 살펴보면 세덤블럭공법이 89,433원/$m^2$이었고, 저배수공법이 92,550원/$m^2$이 소요되는 것과 비교한 결과에서 저토심 인공지반 녹화공법의 토양층 조성 공사비는 45,000원/$m^2$으로 기존 저토심 옥상 녹화공법보다 경제적으로 50% 정도 원가절감 효과가 있었다. 저토심 인공지반 녹화공법의 유효성 검토를 위해 대한주택공사 2층 옥상부에 실험구를 설치하고, 초본식물 생육조사를 위해 국내에 도입되고 있는 옥상녹화 초본류 중 활용빈도가 높은 종들을 대상으로 자생종 및 도입종별 피복률, 생체중량, 건체중량을 측정하였다. 자생종인 기린초, 애기기린초, 두메부추, 돌나물, 매발톱꽃, 층꽃나무 등은 저토심 인공지반 녹화공법에서 피복률 증가와 함께 생체중량, 건체중량이 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 도입종에 있어 스프리움, 리플렉섬도 비슷한 경향을 보였으나, 일부 종에서는 잡초관리가 필요할 것으로 판단되었다. 결과적으로 저토심 인공지반 녹화공법은 저비용으로 옥상녹화가 가능한 것으로 분석되었고, 식물생육도 양호한 것으로 나타나 도심 내 옥상녹화의 보급화에 기여할 것으로 기대되었다.

비비추의 잎변이 품종 'Yellow Tiara' 육성 (New Cultivar 'Yellow Tiara' of Leaf Variegated Hosta)

  • 'Yellow Tiara'는 돌연변이 유기용 화학물질인 MMS(methyle methane sulfonate)용액을 이용하여 돌연변이 개체를 유기하고 그 중에서 연두색의 잎을 가진 식물체를 선발하여 영양번식한 품종이다. 2004년부터 3년간 특정검정을 실시하였는데, 'Yellow Tiara'는 잎 전체가 순수한 연두색으로서 년 중 색상에 변함이 없고 특성이 균일하게 발현된다. 잎의 색상이 독특하고 분화 및 화단용 반음지성 지피식물로 이용될 수 있는 유용한 신품종이다.

  • Tillering of orchardgrass during establishment year was considered as an important factor for ground cover and forage yield. Field experiment was conducted to examine seasonal fluctuation of tiller number in three cultivars of orchardgrass; Potomac, Hall-mark, and Sumas, after transplanting with five planting density. Also, effects of plant density and nitrogen application in cultivar, Potomac were studied on tillering, forage yield and various growth characteristics in pot experiment Tillers per plant decreased with increased density and showed seasonal variations. It increased up to July, decreased during summer months, and increased again from October. Sumas had less tillers than other cultivars, especially at high density. Tillers per unit area kept high during spring. After then, there was stady decrease through summer and remained constant without affecting by planting density. Nitrogen application increased tillers per unit area in Potomac up to 20kg/10a, but decreased its tiller production at 40kg/lOa. Maximum number of tiller was obtained in the combinations of 20kg application of nitrogen with higher density than 324 plant per square meter. Forage yield increased as nitrogen application increased, while it did not respond to plant density. Forage yield had high linear correlation between LAI, leaf number with a peak at 2800 culrns. For high forage yielding, it was suggested to obtain optimum number of tillers per unit area in early season as possible, applying of adequate amount of nitrogen with relative high density depend on cultural condition.

Reproduction rate and stolon production rate after transplantation of grass germplasm

  • Grass breeding starts with the process of selecting grass with good traits, and this operation consumes a lot of resources. Therefore, there is a need for an efficient screening method. Stolon is a unit for the storage of carbohydrates and vegetative propagation, which enhances grass growth and grass sod. Grass varieties with active production of stolons have excellent traits because they reproduce quickly and have a high density. To select grass with such a trait, the survival rate and the production rate of stolon after transplantation of 72 grass germplasms were investigated. After transplantation, the survival rate ranged from 75% to 100%. The majority of the grass cultivars showed a 100% survival rate. Therefore, the group was divided into two groups: A grass variety showing 100% survival and a grass variety that did not show 100% survival. The grass cultivar group, which showed a 100% survival rate after transplantation, included 61 turf varieties, and the rates of stolon production in these grass varieties ranged from 0 to 100%. In contrast, 10 varieties were included in the grass cultivar group that did not show 100% survival after transplantation. These cultivars had a stolon production rate of 0 to 33%. The results suggest that grass germplasms with a 100% survival rate should be selected.

가로수 하부의 식재밀도에 따른 지피초화류의 생육 평가 (Evaluation of Growth of Groundcovers as Affected by Planting Densities under the Roadside Trees)

  • This field experiment aimed to identify the optimal planting density for establishing a management plan for ground-cover plants under roadside trees. Liriope platyphylla and Hosta longipes both widely used for planting under trees were selected as the plant materials and planted under Prunus serrulata var. spontanea at different planting densities. Based on the distance between each plant, 4 planting densities were used: 11%, 25%, 49%, and 83% with three replications. To estimate plant growth, plant height, number of leaves and tillers, fresh and dry weight, and visual quality were investigated. Liriope platyphylla exhibited relatively better growth at the highest planting density of 83%. For Hosta longipes, however, the lower growth was positively correlated with high planting density. Therefore, the optimal planting density for Liriope platyphylla is 83% and for Hosta longipes is 11%.

Taiwan Agricultural Ecosystem Plant Investigation Methodology for Evaluating Agricultural Ecosystem Services

  • Farming practices that balance environmental friendliness with biodiversity are increasingly valuable. Wild plants on farmlands compete for nutrients with crops and create a crucial microhabitat and resources for animals such as natural enemies. Investigating farmlands and their surrounding plants with limited human and material resources has become an essential aspect of evaluating the agricultural ecosystem services. This study investigated plants in six agricultural long-term ecological research sites in Taiwan from 2017 to 2020 to determine the ideal season for investigation. Cluster analysis was performed to group habitats with similar plant composition, and the species-area curves of the clusters in each season were created. The results indicated that the agricultural ecosystem could be divided into farmlands, banks, orchards, and tea gardens. The habitats were divided into farmland, bank, Chia-Yi orchard, Gu-Keng orchard, and tea garden clusters. Ground plant cover can be investigated all year with at least 18 quadrats. However, if human and material resources are limited, 10 quadrats should be the minimum for farmlands in autumn and for the other microhabitats in spring. The minimum number of quadrats is 10 for banks, 17 for orchards, and 9 for tea gardens.

Nitrogen fixation, and growth characteristics of Three Legume cover crops in no-tillage paddy field

  • A field experiment was conducted to investigate the performance of three legume species in a zero-tillage, non-fertilized rice field in a temperate zone. Before the experiment for 5 years, from 1995 to 1999, plant growth patterns of three legume species grown as over-wintering (October-May) cover crops on a paddy field were maintained to study N balance and $\textrm{N}_2$ fixation. Decrease in plant density accelerated from after winter to flowering from 1,090, 320, and 5 to 732, 232, and 6 plants $\textrm{m}^{-2}$ in Chinese milk vetch (CMV), white clover (WC), and hairy vetch (HV), respectively. Total dry weights of plants above-ground level were 0.05, 0.11, and 2.43 g $\textrm{plant}^{-1}$. in WC, CMV and HV respectively but steeply increased at ripening up to 0.77, 2.33, and 26 g $\textrm{plant}^{-1}$. The root dry weight of HV and CMV rapidly increased while in WC, root dry weight increased slightly towards flowering. The highest nodule numbers were recorded in CMV to April thereafter WC produced the highest. Nodule size was distributed within 7mm in CMV but it was larger in HV varying from 1 to 10mm. Shoot N (g $\textrm{m}^{-2}$) greatly increased from over-wintering to flowering in CMV, HV and WC and it ranged from 1.66, 0.5 and 1.92 to 12.6, 3.1 and 13.02 g $\textrm{m}^{-2}$, respectively. After wintering, the initial shoot N content (%) was more in CMV. Root N content (%) was constant or slightly decreased in HV and WC. Soil total N in the control plot (clean fallow) was the highest on Mar. 2 then decreased rapidly to flowering. Soil N content was constant in HV plots whereas it was low in WC plots for the entire growth period except just after winter. Maximum nitrogenase activities were 9, 37.8, and 131 mol $\textrm{C}_2\textrm{H}_4$ $\textrm{plant}^{-1}$ $\textrm{hour}^{-1}$. in CMV, HV, and WC, respectively. Nitrogenase activity showed a direct correlation with nodule number, size and fresh weight. As a cover crop preceding a rice crop, CMV is more suited to colder regions due to its earlier ripening characteristics. Hairy vetch and WC are recommended for regions with a mild winter and a long summer owing to their late ripening and great N fixation activity.

4가지 온대성 지피식물의 실내 포름알데이드 제거효과 (The Effect of the Formaldehyde Removal of Fore Temperate Ground Cover Plants)

  • This research was performed to investigate the effect of formaldehyde removal and confirm the utility of plants as indoor environment improvement systems. The plant materials used in this study were Fatsia japonica, Ardisia japonica, Ardisia pusilla and Davallia mariesii. Plants were placed in an airtight chamber under artificial formaldehyde. The initial formaldehyde concentration in the chamber was $500{\pm}30ppb$, and the conditions of $1,500{\sim}2,000lux$ light, $25{\pm}5^{\circ}C$ temperature and $80{\sim}90%$ humidity were maintained. Each chamber was treated as no plant, plant-only and Plant+soil. The total leaf number for Davallia mariesii, Ardisia japonica, Ardisia pusilla, and Fatsia japonica was 40.8, 48.6, 62.3, and 11.8 respectively. The total leaf space n of those plant materials were $2,385cm^2,\;1,252cm^2,\;2,468cm^2\;and\;1,262cm^2$ respectively. The formaldehyde concentration was reduced to $80{\sim}90%$ of the initial concentration in plant-only and Plant+Soil treatment chamber of all species in 12 hours. In the plant-only chamber, Fatsia japonica had removed formaldehyde density by 95% after 12 hours while Ardisia japonica had removed 90%. In the case of Ardisia pusilla, the early removal rate was higher in the plant-only treatment chamber than the Plant+Soil treatment chamber. The formaldehyde removal rate of Davallia mariesii was 98% after 12 hours. In the Plant+Soil treatment chamber, the amount of removal of formaldehyde per time of Davallia mariesii, Ardisia japonica, Ardisia pusilla, and Fatsia japonica was 20.42ppb/hr, 16.28ppb/hr, 2.5.42ppb/hr, 10.28ppb/hr respectively. In the plant-only, That was 22.50ppb/hr, 20.97ppb/hr, 20.83ppb/hr, 20.97ppb/hr respectively.

Soil Mineral Nitrogen Upteke and Com Growth from Hairy Vetch with Conventional and No-Tillage Systems

  • Winter hairy vetch (HV) can be used as green manure with conventional tillage system (CT), in which chemical N fertilizer required for cultivation of sub-sequent com could be fully saved, or as cover crop with no-tillage system (NT) in which soil could be protected from erosion, control of weed, and the reduction of N fertilizer application. This experiment was carried out to compare the enrichment of soil mineral nitrogen (SMN) at corn root zone, and the changes of com growth and N uptake according to HV amounts (winter fallow, above-ground HV removed, intact HV, and HV added from aboveground HV removed) under two tillage systems in the upland field of National Crop Experiment Station, Suwon, Korea in 1996. HV cultivation during winter decreased SMN a little at com planting. HV incorporation with CT increased SMN rapidly during early growth stage according to rapid decomposition of Hv. SMN by HV cover with NT was increased slowly and its increase was higher in the surface soil (soil layer 0-7.5cm) compared to deep soil layer 7.5-22cm. Com growth and N status at corn silking stage, com yield and N uptake at harvest were increased in proportion to aboveground HV amounts regardless of tillage system. Average hairy vetch nitrogen (HV-N) uptake efficiency by com was 10% higher with CT than with NT in which average HV-N uptake efficiency was 43 %. Corn yields were not different between two tillage systems, but corn N uptake was increased by 33 kgN/ha more with CT than with NT due to the increase of corn N concentration. The increase of SMN and com N uptake from HV cover with NT could not be disregarded though those with CT were higher than with NT

좀비비추[Hosta minor (Baker) Nakai] '늘푸름 1' 육성 (New Cultivar Breeding of Hosta minor 'Neulpureum 1')

  • '늘푸름 1 (Neulpureum 1)'은 국립수목원에서 육종한 품종으로, 좀비비추와 원예품종인 Hosta 'Krossa Regal'을 교잡 후 얻은 개체를 특성에 따라 선발하여 육종하였다. 선발은 잎의 색이 진하고 잎에 존재하는 굴곡의 크기가 작은 개체를 기준으로 하여 선발하였다. 그 결과 대조품종에 비해 짙은 녹색을 유지하는 기간이 길고, 초장이 짧으며, 풍부한 잎을 가지고 있는 개체가 선발되었다. 이렇게 선발된 개체는 무성증식방법으로 개체수를 늘렸으며, 3년간 재배하며 특성을 고정 및 조사하였다. 이렇게 육종된 '늘푸름 1 (Neulpureum 1)'은 가지고 있는 특징 때문에 반음지의 지피용 뿐만 아니라 분화용으로도 이용될 수 있는 만큼 활용적 가치가 매우 높은 신품종이다.
