  • CFD calculations are carried out to investigate the turbulent flow characteristics inside the duct of marine waterjet propulsors. The Reynolds-averaged Wavier-Stokes equations are solved using a finite-volume method. Standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model and realizable $k-{\varepsilon}$ model are evaluated with an existing experimental data. Multi-block grid topology is adopted to describe the details of complex duct geometry. The present numerical methods are applied to the preliminary duct design of new waterjet propulsor system. Four different influx conditions are simulated to find out pressure and velocity distribution inside the intake duct. Attention is also paid upon the possible flow separation inside the waterjet duct. It is found that CFD tools can be used for the initial evaluation of inflow condition into the impeller of waterjet propulsor system.

  • This paper describes a new interactive inverter between a photovoltaic(PV) array and single-phase utility that avoid the bulky input (60Hz) transformer on the AC side. The interface employs a pwm boost converter on the DC side followed by a pwm current-forced single-phase rectifier for injecting the power from the PV array into the mains. The current waveform at the AC side remains sinusoidal and exactly in phase at all time. The circuit also has the advantage of requiring fewer switching device than high-frequency link system. This paper describes modeling of PV array and new system topology. Simulation results on the performance of the connection are also presented.

  • AC/AC power conversion is widely used to feed AC loads with a variable voltage and/or a variable frequency from a constant voltage constant frequency power grid or to connect critical loads to an unreliable power supply while delivering a very balanced and accurate sinusoidal voltage system of constant amplitude and frequency. The load specifications will clearly impose the requirements for the inverter stage of the power converter, while wider ranges of choices are available for the rectifier. This paper investigates the utilization of a buck-type current source rectifier as the active front-end stage of an AC/AC converter for applications that require an adjustable DC-link voltage as well as elimination of the low-frequency common mode voltage. The proposed solution is to utilize a combination of two or more zero current vectors in the Space Vector Modulation (SVM) technique for Current Sources Rectifiers (CSR).

  • In this paper, the performance analysis of a control topology based on the direct output power control (DPC) for robust and inexpensive permanent magnet-assisted synchronous reluctance generator (PMa-SynRG) system is presented. The PMa-SynRG might be coupled to an internal combustion engine running at variable speed. A three-phase PWM rectifier rectifies the generator output and supplies the dc link. A single-phase PWM inverter supplies constant ac voltage at constant frequency to the grid. The overall control algorithm is implemented on a TMS320F2812 digital signal processor board. Simulations results and experimental results verify the operation of the proposed system.

  • In this paper, a single-phase multifunctional onboard battery charger with small DC-link capacitors is proposed, where the low-voltage battery charger is utilized as an active power filter to mitigate the inherent second-order ripple power when the high-voltage (HV) battery is charged from the grid. In this scheme, the large DC-link electrolytic capacitors of the HV battery charger can be eliminated without additional switches, leading to the reduction of cost and volume of the onboard battery charger. The validity of the proposed topology has been verified by the simulation results.

  • Numerical analysis of three-dimensional viscous flow-fields in the turbine rotor passages is carried out to investigate flow physics including the interaction between secondary vortices, tip leakage vortex, and the rotor wake. The blade tip geometry is accurately modeled adopting the embedded H grid topology. An explicit four-stage Runge-Kutta scheme is used for the time integration of both the mean flow and turbulence equations. The computational results for the entire turbine rotor flows, particularly the tip clearance flow and the secondary flows, are interpreted and compared with the experimental data from the Penn State turbine stage. Good agreement between the experimental data and the numerical prediction was achieved in the sense of the major features of the flow fields.

  • This proposed paper aims for the high efficiency contactless power transfer in household dc power distribution. A 300 W five-level diode clamped multi-level converter with 300 Vdc input dc link bus is employed for the power transferring task and the output voltage range is controlled at 48 Vdc. The inner and outer solenoid coils are used for inductive power transfer (IPT) transformer with the 200 kHz switching frequency for designed power density. Therefore, to achieve the converter efficiency above 95%, the LLC series resonant with fundamental harmonic analysis (FHA) and the calculated switching angles are used as an optimized tool for designing the system resonant tank. The validations of this approached topology are illustrated in both MATLAB/Simulink simulation and implementation.

  • The use of network coding in wireless networks has been proposed in the literature for energy efficient broadcast. However, the decoding complexity of existing algorithms is too high for low-complexity devices. In this work we formalize the all-to-all information exchange problem and shows how to optimize the transmission scheme in terms of energy efficiency. Furthermore, we prove by construction that there exists O(1) -complexity network coding algorithms for grid networks which can achieve such optimality. We also present low-complexity heuristics for random. topology networks. Simulation results show that network coding algorithms outperforms forwarding algorithms in most cases.
