The external corrosion of buried piping can be controlled using both coating and cathodic protection. Several factors are involved in the damage and deterioration of the coating on pipes. There are many detection methods for coating defects on pipes and the direct current voltage gradient (DCVG) method is one of the most powerful methods. However, the detection reliability of DCVG can be affected by interferences such as stray current, metal objects connected to rectifiers, and copper grids. Therefore, this study focused on the interference effects of rectifiers and a copper grid on the reliability of coating flaw detection. As the length of the interference pipe connected to the rectifier increased, the reliability decreased. In contrast, as the distance between the pipe and the copper grid increased, the reliability of the coating flaw detection increased. The detection results produced by the DCVG method were discussed using current and potential simulations for a pipe with a rectifier and copper grid interference in the soil.

In distributed generation systems, a grid-connected inverter should operate with synchronization to grid voltage. Considering that synchronization requires the phase angle of grid voltage, a phase locked loop (PLL) scheme is often used. The synchronous reference frame phase locked loop (SRF-PLL) is generally known to provide reasonable performance under ideal grid voltage. However, this scheme indicates performance degradation under the harmonic distorted or unbalanced grid voltage condition. To overcome this limitation, this paper proposes a phase and harmonic detection method of grid voltage using fast Fourier transform (FFT). To reduce the calculation time of FFT algorithm, minimum sampling data is taken from the voltage measurement to determine the phase angle and the magnitude of harmonic components. An experimental test setup for a grid-connected inverter system has been constructed. By comparative simulations and experiments under various abnormal grid voltage conditions, the proposed scheme has been proven to effectively track the phase angle of the grid voltage.
This paper proposes a novel active frequency drift (AFD) method for the islanding prevention of grid-connected photovoltaic inverter. To detect the islanding phenomenon of grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) inverters concerning about the safety hazards and the damage to other electric equipments, many kinds of anti-islanding methods have been presented. Among them, AFD method using chopping fraction enables the islanding detection to drift up (or down) the frequency of the voltage during the islanding situation. In this paper, injecting the periodic zero current into the basic AFD method is proposed. This proposed method shows the analytical design value of cf to meet the test procedure of IEEE Std. 1547 with various load conditions. Detection of islanding is verified using simulation tool PSIM.
A micro-grid (MG) is usually interconnected to the main grid through the dedicated line. Immediately after the removal of the grid supply, the MG should be disconnected and remain disconnected until the main grid is re-energized. It should detect islanding condition as soon as it happens to adjust the setting of the protection relays in the MG. This paper proposes an islanding detection algorithm for the MG based on the active and reactive power delivered to the dedicated line in the time domain. The performance of the proposed algorithm is verified under islanding conditions and fault conditions using the PSCAD/EMTDC simulator. The results indicate that the proposed algorithm can discriminate the islanding conditions from the various fault conditions.
Energy recovery battery testing systems (ERBTS) have been widely used in battery manufactures. All the ERBTS are connected in parallel which forms a special and complicated micro-grid system, which has the shortcomings of low energy recovery efficiency, complex grid-connected control algorithms issues for islanded detection, and complicated power circuit topology issues. To solve those shortcomings, a DC micro-grid system is proposed, the released testing energy has the priority to be reutilized between various testing system within the local grid, Compared to conventional scheme, the proposed system has the merits of a simplified power circuit topology, no needs for synchronous control, and much higher testing efficiency. The testing energy can be cycle-used inside the local micro-grid. The additional energy can be recovered to AC-grid. Numerous experimental comparison results between conventional and proposed scheme are provided to demonstrate the validity and effectiveness of the proposed technique.

When ESS(Energy Storage System) is under normal operation, island situation can be occur because of grid accidents. When island operation occur, the system mode switches in to UPS(Uninterruptible Power Supply) mode to supply stabled load power. To decide island operation, checking grid magnitude or frequency is general. But regulation for sag and swell is required. In this paper, it proposes grid connection error detection algorithm for UPS operation when sag and swell occurs in grid, and analyzed by simulation.

Islanding protection of a grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) inverter is a key function for standards compliance. Unintentional islanding results in safety hazards, reliability, and many other issues. Therefore, many anti-islanding schemes have been examined. However, existing anti-islanding schemes have poor power quality and non-detection zone issues. Moreover, most schemes have problems that deteriorate the performance of islanding detection under parallel operation. Therefore, this paper proposes a novel anti-islanding scheme that has negligible power quality degradation and has no non-detection zone and islanding detection under a parallel operation. Both simulation and experimental results validate the proposed scheme.

Existing Outlier detections have been widely studied in geosensor networks. Recently, machine learning and data mining have been applied the outlier detection method to build a model that distinguishes outliers based on anchored criterion. However, it is difficult for the existing methods to detect outliers against incoming time-variant data, because outlier detection needs to monitor incoming data and classify irregular attacks. Therefore, in order to solve the problem, we propose a time-variant outlier detection using 2-dimensional grid method based on unanchored criterion. In the paper, outliers using geosensor data was performed to classify efficiently. The proposed method can be utilized applications such as network intrusion detection, stock market analysis, and error data detection in bank account.
Localized atmospheric conditions between multi-reference stations can bring the tropospheric delay irregularity that becomes an error terms affecting positioning accuracy in network RTK environment. Imbalanced network error can affect the network solutions and it can corrupt the entire network solution and degrade the correction accuracy. If an anomaly could be detected before the correction message was generated, it is possible to eliminate the anomalous satellite that can cause degradation of the network solution during the tropospheric delay anomaly. An atmospheric grid that consists of four meteorological stations was used to detect an inhomogeneous weather conditions and tropospheric anomaly applied AWSs (automatic weather stations) meteorological data. The threshold of anomaly detection algorithm was determined based on the statistical weather data of AWSs for 5 years in an atmospheric grid. From the analytic results of anomaly detection algorithm it showed that the proposed algorithm can detect an anomalous satellite with an anomaly flag generation caused tropospheric delay anomaly during localized atmospheric conditions between stations. It was shown that the different precipitation condition between stations is the main factor affecting tropospheric anomalies.
This paper proposes a novel active frequency drift (AFD) method to improve the islanding detection performance with minimum current harmonics. To detect the islanding phenomenon of grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) inverters concerning the safety hazards and possible damage to other electric equipment, anti-islanding methods have been described. The AFD method that uses chopping fraction (cf) enables the islanding detection to drift up (or down) the frequency of the voltage during the islanding situation. However, the performance of the conventional AFD method is inefficient and causes difficulty in designing the appropriate cf value to meet the limit of harmonics. In this paper, the periodic chopping fraction based on a novel AFD method is proposed. This proposed method shows the analytical design value of cf to meet the test procedure of IEEE Std. 929-2000 with power quality and islanding detection time. To verify the validation of the proposed method, the islanding test results are presented. It is confirmed that the proposed method has not only less harmonic distortion but also better performance of islanding detection compared with the conventional AFD method.
