  • Urban atmospheric conditions are usually settled as warmer, drier and dirtier than those of rural counterpart owing to reduction of green space and water space area heat retention in surfaces such as concrete and asphalt, and abundant fuel consumption. The characteristics of urban climate has become generally known as urban heat island. The purpose of this study is to investigate the temporal and spatial distribution of the heat emission from human activity, which is a main factor causing urban heat island. In this study, the anthropogenic heat fluxes emitted from vehicles and constructions are estimated by computational grid mesh which is divided by 1km $\times$ 1km. The anthropogenic heat flux by grid mesh can be applied to a numerical simulation model of the local circulation model. The constructions are classified into 9 energy-consumption types - hospital, hotel, office, department store, commercial store, school, factory, detached house and flat. The vehicles classified into 4 energy-consumption types - car, taxi, truck and bus. The seasonal mean of anthropogenic heat flux around central Daegu exceeded $50 W/m^2$ in winter. The annual mean anthropogenic heat flux exceeded $20 W/m^2$. The values are nearly equivalent to the anthropogenic heat flux in the suburbs of Tokyo, Japan.

  • We have fabricated an air stable blue emitting organic electroluminescent devices (OLEDs) with a carbazole based emitting molecule, Bis(3-N-ethylcarbazolyl)terephthalidene (BECP). Our device emits strong blue at 472 nm with the luminance efficiency of near 1 lm/W at a voltage and current density of 8 V and 5.7 mA/cm2, respectively, reaching the brightness up to 5000 cd/m2 at 270 mA/cm2. Finally, in order to tune the emission color from blue to green, we have used Bis(3-N-ethylcarbazolyl)cynoterephthalidene (BECCP), a derivative of BECP by adding cyno group in side chain, and compared the electroluminscence (EL) of OLEDS prepared by BECCP to that of BECP based OLEDs.

  • In order to develop a protocol to quantify cyanobacteria and Microcystis simultaneously, the primers and probe were designed from the conserved regions of 16S rRNA gene sequences of cyanobacteria and Microcystis, respectively. Probe match analysis of the Ribosomal Database Project showed that the primers matched with over 97% of cyanobacterial 16S rRNA genes, indicating these can be used to amplify cyanobacteria specifically. The TaqMan probe, which is located between two primers, matched with 98.2% of sequences in genus GpXI, in which most Microcystis strains are included. The numbers of cyanobacterial genes were estimated with the emission of SYBR Green from the amplicons with two primers, whereas those of Microcystis spp. were measured from the fluorescence of CAL Fluor Gold 540 emitted by exonuclease activity of Taq DNA polymerase in amplification. It is expected that this method enhances the accuracy and reduces the time to count cyanobacteria and potential toxigenic Microcystis spp. in aquatic environmental samples.

  • Recently, people have concerned about environmental pollution. This environmental pollution occur due to many reasons such as heavy metal ions and anions. In this regard, many researchers have studied organic materials to monitor above reasons to protect environmental pollution. One of the organic materials for this function is chemosensor. This chemosensor has been studied and reported about monitoring toxic heavy metal ions and anions. In this study, the dye sensor was designed and synthesized through reaction of Rhodamine 6G and 1,3-Indanedion. this dye sensor selective detected $Hg^{2+}$ metal ions while showing red color absorption and yellowish-green strong fluorescence emission compared to other heavy metal ions such as $Cu^{2+}$, $Hg^{2+}$, $Ag^{2+}$, $Zn^{2+}$, $Fe^{2+}$ and $Fe^{3+}$. In this regard, we anticipated that this dye senosr can provide an significant material for monitoring mercury which cause environmental pollution. Thus, We investigated detailed properties of this dye sesnor with using UV-Vis absorption and fluorescent spectrophotometer, Job's plot method for metal binding complex, computational simulated calculation named Material Studio 4.3 suite to approach for electron distribution and HOMO/LUMO.

  • Novel materials of $Zn(HPB)_2$ and Ir-complexes were respectively synthesized as blue or red emitting material. White Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLED) were fabricated by using $Zn(HPB)_2$ for a blue emitting layer, Ir-complexes for a red emitting layer and $Alq_3$ for a green emitting layer. White OLED was fabricated by using double emitting layers of $Zn(HPB)_2$ and $Alq_3:Ir$-complexes, and hole blocking layer of BCP. We also varied the thickness of BCP. When the thickness of BCP layer was 5 nm, white emission was achieved. We obtained a maximum luminance of $3,500cd/m^2$. The CIE coordinates was (0.375, 0.331). From this study, we could propose that the hybrid structure is efficient in lighting application of white OLED by improvement of color purity.

  • The energy efficiency of papermaking process becomes more significant because of various new regulation of the energy consumption and the green house gas emission. In this study, the effects of wood powder addition on the drainage and the drying efficiency of the OCC based paper products, linerboard, were deeply investigated for improving energy efficiency. The fractionation of wood powder depending on the size were conducted. The bigger size of wood powder resulted in the higher bulk and the higher drainage efficiency, but the lower paper strength. The drying efficiency were in detail evaluated depending on the drying process level. In the first section of drying process until the 80% solid level, there were no significant changes in the drying efficiency by the addition of wood powder. However, after the 80 % solid level, the drying efficiency was greatly improved by the addition of wood powder. Those results showed the addition of wood powder could greatly affect not only the drainage in forming and wet pressing but also the drying process.

  • This paper describes the modeling of climate change impact on drought using a conceptual soil moisture model and presents the results of the modeling approach. The future climate series is obtained by scaling the historical series, informed by CCCma CGCM3-T63 with A2 green house emission scenario, using a daily scaling method that considers changes in the future monthly precipitation and potential evapotranspiration as well as in the daily precipitation distribution. The majority of the modeling results indicate that there will be more frequent drought in Korea in the future.

  • In this study, divalent europium-activated $NaCaPO_4$ green phosphor powders were prepared by the chemical synthetic method followed by heat treatment in reduced atmosphere, and the crystal structures, morphologies and photoluminescent properties of the powders were investigated by x-ray powder diffraction, scanning electron microscope and spectrometer for the first time. The effects of Ca/P and Na/Ca mole ratios on the final products were also investigated. The influences of input amount change of europium as the activator on the light emission intensity were studied, and the resulting concentration quenching phenomenon was observed. The optimized synthesis conditions obtained in this study were Ca/P mole ratio 1.2, Na/Ca mole ratio 3.0 and 4 mole%Eu. The peak wavelength was 505 nm for all the samples. The result of excitation spectrum measurement indicated that the excitation efficiency was high for the long-wavelength UV region. It was thus concluded that the samples prepared in this study can be successfully applied for the light-emitting devices such as LED excited with long-wavelength UV light sources.
