  • In order to comply with revised national regulationson radiological protection and to implement recent nuclear data and dose conversion factors, KOPEC developed a new point kernel gamma and beta ray shielding analysis computer program. This new code, named VisualShield, adopted mass attenuation coefficient and buildup factors from recent ANSI/ANS standards and flux-to-dose conversion factors from the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) Publication 74 for estimation of effective/equivalent dose recommended in ICRP 60. VisualShieid utilizes graphical user interfaces and 3-D visualization of the geometric configuration for preparing input data sets and analyzing results, which leads users to error free processing with visual effects. Code validation and data analysis were performed by comparing the results of various calculations to the data outputs of previous programs such as MCNP 4B, ISOSHLD-II, QAD-CGGP, etc.

  • This paper deals with the estimation of limiting distribution parameters, which have a close relation with product reliability characteristics in reliability test. Among the many kinds of estimation methods, probability paper is commonly used. The limiting probability paper is very convenient, but it has a great disadvantage in estimation accuracy by plotting method. It is very difficult to get the same results even if one use the same data several times. A computer program for the regression method is used for the parameter estimation to reduce these errors. Especially, the computer graphic program was written in GW-BASIC 3.22 language and a couple of running examples for user's reference appears in the appendix part.

  • Until recently pre & post-processing of finite element model has been heavily relied on expensive graphic peripheral devices. But today, with the aid of inexpensive microcomputers, very effective pre & postprocessor graphics has been developed. In this study, Pre & Post processor(MASSPRE, MASSPOST) of prediction analysis of thermal stress in mass concrete structure is developed. The developed pre & post processors are raise to the efficiency in making input data for the main program and analysis of the results produced by the main program. This MASSPOST presents a stress contour graph, volume slice, time-temperature history graph, time-stress history graph, etc.

  • Scratch-based programming has come to be known as an effective programming tool because of its graphic instruction modules, which are designed to be assembled like the famous LEGO building blocks. These building block-like structures allow users to more easily program applications without using other more difficult programming languages such as C or Java, which are text-based. Therefore, it poses a good opportunity for application in educational settings, especially in primary schools. This paper presents an effective approach to developing an educational robot for use in elementary schools. Furthermore, we present the method for scratch programming based on the external modules need for the implementation of robot motion. Lastly, we design a systematic curriculum, titled "Play with a Robot," and propose guidelines to using the educational programming language Scratch.

  • A computer aided process is inevitable for the optimization of train operation planning. Developing of train diagrams is very important for the train operation planning. In this paper, the user friendly program related to the train scheduling that can be used for the basic data on developing of train diagram is introduced. It can also provide basic data for other train operation plannings, such as Timetabling, Crew Operation Scheduling, etc. It provides the planner with data moving, data changing and zooming functions, and it can assist the user easily produces their optimal solution. All this operations are performed interactively through graphic windows.

  • This paper presents a heuristic solution for the three dimensional container loading problem with boxes which are different in size. The container loading problem is formulated as a zero-one mixed integer programming model whose objective is to maximize the container utilization. Due to its problem complexity, we propose a heuristic based on layered loading technique. Also, presented is a way to achieve the weighting balance of the stacked boxes. A micro-computer based program is developed which generates container loading pattern provided by the proposed heuristic. The results are displayed by computer-graphic. To evaluate the performance of the proposed heuristic, computational experiments are performed. The results indicate that in most of the cases the proposed heuristic performs better than an existing heuristic in terms of the container utilization.

  • A low cost PC based simulator for excavator manipulation has been developed using virtual reality technology. The simulator consists of two joystick input devices, server and client PCs, an excavator kinematics module, and a graphic rendering program Open Inventor. In order to use two joysticks in the PC window environment multi-thread programing with network protocol TCP/IP has been used. To provide realistic view to the operator, CAD program Pro/Engineer and 3D modeller have been employed to create 3D part geometry of tile manipulator and virtual environmental geometries. Those geometries also have been transformed and imported to the Open Inventor. The Simulator developed is to be improved for more realistic excavator operational training.

  • In this paper, an analysis on a new robot manipulator developed for the side buffing of the shoes is presented. The robot manipulator is composed of five degrees of freedom. An analysis on the forward and inverse kinematics was performed. Through the analysis, an analytic solution was derived for the joint angles corresponding to the position and orientation of the tool in the Cartesian coordinates. The hardware system of the robot composed of the control system, input/output interface system, and related electronic system was developed. The communication system was also developed to interact the robot with the related surrounding systems. A graphic user interface(GUI) program including the forward/inverse kinematics, control algorithm, and communication program was developed using visual C++ language.

  • A Failure data from operating condition includes various failures. Reliability evaluation by operating condition is more correct than test condition. Additional, the evaluation result by operating condition is widely used for quality assurance, forecasting amount of manufacturing at EOL. To discover valuable things from the failure data, arrangement of the failure data and information technique to handle data is needed among many failure data. This paper introduces a reliability prediction program to solve this problem based on the failure. And new technologies for parameters estimation with method of Graphic-Wizard-Parameters-Estimation and Genetic Algorithm are introduced.

  • A computer simulation methiod for costume design has been developed using LUMENA, a generic-purpose 2-dimensional graphic software. In this study the palette, tone chart, fabric chart, styling chart, and costume drawing were constructed on the computer. In costume design simulation, fabric swatches with various colors and patterns were applied to the base garment image taken by using a scanner or a video camera. In this procedure the original 3-dimensional effect was fully retained. Using this simulation method, a number of costume designs could be carried out in short time without actually making the garment. A portfolio including the tone chart, fabric chart, styling chart, costume drawing, and simulation results were made for the purpose of demonstration, using the animation tools of LUMENA.
