PMMA(poly-methyl methacrylate) microlens array is fabricated using transparent acrylic resin. PMMA is commonly used material for plastic lens due to its excellent visibility larger than 90% and other optical characteristics so much close to those of glass. Orthodontic resin (DENTSPLY International Inc.), commonly used in dentistry, is an transparent acrylic resin kit including MMA liquid and polymerization powder. Their mixture results in PMMA through polymerization. Using the resin PMMA layer is formed on the substrate through spin-coating. Designed pattern of lens structure is transferred to PMMA layer by RIE (Reactive Ion Etching) with oxygen plasma. Final lens shape is formed by thermal treatment that causes PMMA to reflow, The thickness of PMMA spun on the substrate is $17{\mu}m$ that is also final sag of microlens, Designed diameters of the microlenses are $200{\mu}m$, $300{\mu}m$,and $500{\mu}m$, respectively.
The Fourier transform spectra of a grating have been employed to determine the refractive index of a simple lens. The shearing interferometric technique is used for collimation testing of the expanded laser beam and for determining the exact focal plane. The slit attached to micro X-Y translator has been used to measure the distance between two sucessive diffraction orders in the back focal plane of the test lens. The experimental equipment is described and results are presented.
For an inner-focusing 3-groups zoom lens system, this study suggests a new initial design method which applies the process that changes thin lenses into thick ones effectively and quickly, using the hybrid lens system(thin lens+thick lens). In other words, the hybrid lens system is the semi-automatic design process that makes the thin lens of one group change into a thick one while the other groups are composed of thin lenses. Keeping the total power of the system fixed, the power of each group and the distance between principal planes can be fixed. Of course, the other groups composed of thin lenses could be changed into thick lenses sequentially by this process. This design conception results in the 1/4" 5 M inner-focusing 3-groups 2x zoom lens system satisfying the specifications and performances of zoom lens for phone cameras. Also aspherization on lens elements of glass and plastic material enhanced the resolution and reduced the lens size. As a result, we have an ultra-compact inner-focusing 3-groups 2x zoom lens system for a phone camera, with a slim size with TTL of 9.8 mm.

Demand for optical glass device used for lighting could increase rapidly because of LED lighting market growth. The optical glass devices that have been formed by hot press molding process the desired optical performance without being subjected to mechanical processing such as curve generation or grinding. EL-Max material has been used for many engineering applications because of their high wear resistance, high compressive strength, corrosion resistant and very good dimensional stability. EL-Max is very useful for a glass lens mold especially at high temperature and pressure. The performance and reliability of optical components are strongly influenced by the surface damage of EL-Max during grinding process. Therefore, the severe process condition optimization shall be necessary for the highly qualified EL-Max glass lens mold. To get the required qualified surface of EL-Max, the selection of type of the diamond wheel is also important. In this paper, we report best grinding conditions of ultra-precision grinding machining. The grinding machining results of the form accuracy and surface roughness have been analyzed by using Form Talysurf and NanoScan.

Currently, the majority of commercial white LEDs are phosphor converted LEDs made of a blue-emitting chip and YAG yellow phosphor dispersed in organic silicone. However, silicone in high-power devices results in long-term performance problems such as reacting with water, color transition, and shrinkage by heat. Additionally, yellow phosphor is not applicable to warm white LEDs that require a low CCT and high CRI. To solve these problems, mixing of green phosphor, red phosphor and glass, which are stable in high temperatures, is common a production method for high-power warm white LEDs. In this study, we fabricated conversion lenses with LUAG green phosphor, SCASN red phosphor and low-softening point glass for high-power warm white LEDs. Conversion lenses can be well controlled through the phosphor content and heat treatment temperature. Therefore, when the green phosphor content was increased, the CRI and luminance efficiency gradually intensified. Moreover, using high heat treatment temperatures, the fabricated conversion lenses had a high CRI and low luminance efficiency. Thus, the fabricated conversion lenses with green and red phosphor below 90 wt% and 10 wt% with a sintering temperature of $500^{\circ}C$ had the best optical properties. The measured values for the CCT, CRI and luminance efficiency were 3200 K, 80, and 85 lm/w.
Recently, remote phosphors have been reported for application to white LEDs to provide enhanced phosphor efficiency compared with conventional phosphor-based white LEDs. In this study, a remote phosphor was produced by coating via screen printing on a glass substrate with different numbers of phosphor coating. The paste consists of phosphor, lowest softening glass frits, and organic binders. The remote phosphor could be well controlled by varying the phosphor content rated paste. After mounting the remote phosphor on top of a blue LED chip, CCT, CRI, and luminance efficiency were measured and values of 5300 K, 62, and 117 lm/W were respectively obtained in the 80 wt% phosphor with 3 coating layers sintered at $800^{\circ}C$.
The purpose of our study was to determine the eyeradiation dose when performing routine multi-detector computed tomography (MDCT). We also evaluated dose reduction and the effect on image quality of using a bismuth eye shield when performing head MDCT. Examinations were performed with a 64MDCT scanner. To compare the shielded/unshielded lens dose, the examination was performed with and without bismuth shielding in anthropomorphic phantom. To determine the average lens radiation dose, we imaged an anthropomorphic phantom into which calibrated photoluminescence glass dosimeter (PLD) were placed to measure the dose to lens. The phantom was imaged using the same protocol. Radiation doses to the lens with and without the lensshielding were measured and compared using the Student t test. In the qualitative evaluation of the MDCT scans, all were considered to be of diagnostic quality. We did not see any differences in quality between the shielded and unshielded brain. The mean radiation doses to the eyewith the shield and to those without the shield were 21.54 versus 10.46 mGy, respectively. The lens shield enabled a 51.3% decrease in radiation dose to the lens. Bismuth in-plane shielding for routine eye and head MDCT decreased radiation dose to the lenswithout qualitative changes in image quality. The other radiosensitive superficial organs specifically must be protected with shielding.

In the optical application demand for high quality lens is increasing. Plastics lenses are demanded more than glass lenses for large size lenses as well as micro-size lenses. It is difficult to apply typical straight cooling channels of injection mold to lens molding due to its non-uniform temperature distribution. In this study, we manufactured molds for plastic lenses with the conventional cooling channels and conformal cooling channels produced by the DMLS process. We evaluated cooling performance for the 2 molds by injection molding experiment. Also, uniformity of the temperature distribution was tested by infrared camera and temperature monitoring. We confirmed that the cooling performance and temperature uniformity with the conformal cooling channels is much improved from the ones with the conventional. The cooling time with the conformal cooling channels was reduced 30% compared with the conventional cooling channels.

The object transport system is used in many industry field such as the conveyor belt, which transports huge goods in container harbor, the magnetic levitation system, and the indexing system which transports precision components such as semiconductor and optical components. In conventional transport system, the magnetic field may damage semiconductor and the contact force may scratch on the optical lens. So ultrasonic wave transport system has been proposed to replace the previous transport system. In this paper, the good transport condition of optical lens is obtained according to the flexural beam shapes. The working frequency and transport speed are measured and the vibration characteristics of the flexural beams are investigated by Laser Scanning Vibrometer.
The design of a telecentric f-${\theta}$ lens with a field of view (FOV) $30^{\circ}$ and an effective focal length of 1000mm is presented. The optical stop is placed at the front plane and the design is based on a geometric ray tracing technique, and the designed system consists of a series of convex and concave lenses. The designed f-${\theta}$ lens showed a considerable reduction in weight with a simplified structure and resulted in a good performance in the designated FOV. Detail analysis of rays is also presented. 653nm (red laser), 586nm (green laser), and 468nm (blue laser) were simulated as a light source and image illuminating source. The developed optical design requires 7 pieces of lenses made of SF1, N-FK56, N-LAK33, and BK7 glass materials. With optimal parametric design, the effective focal length was calculated to be 974.839mm which is very close to the initial design target. For the manufacturing purpose, the dimensions of lens curvature and thickness were truncated with error ranging 0.1% to 3.2%. As a result, the overall error was calculated to be 3.2% which can be still tolerable for display, laser material, and machining processing.
