The new class of $Gd_5(Si_xGe_{1-x})_4$ compounds undergoes a simultaneous magnetic/structural phase transition giving a high level of strain that can be induced either by change in temperature or by application of a magnetic field. Profound changes of structural, magnetic, and electronic changes occur in the $Gd_5(Si_xGe_{1-x})_4$ system lead to extreme behavior of the material such as the giant magnetocaloric effect, colossal magnetostriction, and giant magnetoresistance. These unique material characters can be utilized for various applications including magnetic solid refrigerants, sensors, and actuators.
This paper proposes a method for estimating the location of a magnetized tip that is inside a non-transparent space or body by using arrayed giant magnetoresistance (GMR) sensors. In general, an object located in such an opaque space can be detected using X-rays, magnetic fields, ultra-sonic sensors, etc., depending on its characteristics. X-ray is mostly used for medical purposes but frequent exposure to it could cause harm to patients as well as doctors. In this study, how well a GMR sensor is applicable instead of an X-ray is investigated. The sensor's voltage output is experimentally fitted to distance with a relationship of 3rd degree polynomial. To detect a small magnetized tip with 900 Oe inside a human body, a 2×2 arrayed GMR sensor and a location estimation algorithm based on information acquired from four sensors is developed. Evaluation tests show that the suggested method is applicable to limited cases with a distance less than 33-55 mm, and the location of a magnet tip is estimated relatively well with an error less than 1.5 mm.
Metallic ferromagnet LA$_{1-x}$ Sr$_{x}$MnO$_3$ has received considerable attentions because of its metallic conductivity and giant magnetic resistivity. It is generally believed that layered perovskite SrO(LA$_{1-x}$ Sr$_{x}$MnO$_3$)$_{n}$ phase is insulating and shows no metallic transition. But recent report revealed that some single crystal SrO(LA$_{1-x}$ Sr$_{x}$MnO$_3$)$_{n}$ phase showed MR effect. In this study, layered perovskite SrO(LA$_{1-x}$ Sr$_{x}$MnO$_3$)$_2$ Phases were synthesized by solid state reaction at 140$0^{\circ}C$ in air atmosphere, for wide range of x and their phases were confirmed by X-ray diffraction. Electrical and magnetic properties were measured down to 10K and the possibility of MR effects was investigated.as investigated.
The objective of this paper is to review the magnetic and magneto-transport properties of Co/$Co_2TiSn$ consisting of two metallic magnetic phases that are antiferromagnetically exchange-coupled at the phase boundary. The bulk Co/$Co_2TiSn$ system, which has a $Co_2$TiSn Heusler alloy precipitates in the hexagonal Co matrix, showed an unusual coercivity change with a concurrent change in temperature, and was modeled on the basis of a wall formation caused by exchange coupling at the phase boundary. For measurements of magneto-transport properties, Co/$Co_2TiSn$ thin films that had two-magnet phases were deposited using a magnetron sputtering system with a composite target. The magnetization process in the films is also explained on the basis of the model of wall formation at the phase boundary. Annealed Co/$Co_2TiSn$ films showed a 0.12% GMR effect, indicating the scattering of polarized conduction electrons due to the antiparallel exchange coupling at the phase boundary. The scattering process of conduction electrons at the phase boundary was modeled with relation to the magnetization process.

The micro device, coil, and channel for the biosensor integrated with the GMR-SV device based on the antiferromagnetic IrMn layer was fabricated by the light lithography process. When RBCs coupled with several magnetic beads with a diameter of $1{\mu}m$ passed on the micro channel, the movement of RBC + ${\mu}Beads$ is controlled by the electrical AC input signal. The RBC + ${\mu}Beads$ having a micro-magnetic field captured above the GMR-SV device is changed as the output signals for detection status. From these results, the GMR-SV device having the width magnitude of a few micron size can be applied as the biosensor for the analysis of a new magnetic property as the membrane's deformation of RBC coupled to magnetic beads.
In the past years, a giant magnetoresistance (GMR) effect found in perovskite-like structured materials has attracted considerable attention among scientists and manufacturers, since, a practical point of view, the capacity of producing magnetic and sensing sensors. In a stream of this interest, further efforts to understand the underlying mechanism that leads to the GMR effect relative to the correlation between transport and magnetic properties, have been extensively devoted. In these cases, spin-glass-like behaviors are ascribed to the frustration of random competing exchange interactions, namely the ferromagnetic double-exchange interaction between Co$\^$3+/ (or Mn$\^$3+/) and Co$\^$4+/(or Mn$\^$4+/) and the antiferromagnetic one like spins. Noticeably, the distinction of spin-glass region from cluster-glass one, involved in the remarkable changes in transport and magnetic properties at a critical value of doping concentration, was observed. Magnetic anomalies in zero-field-cooled (ZFC) magnetization as well as ac magnetic susceptibility below Curie temperature T$\sub$c/ and the charge/orbital fluctuation were also realized. In this work, we present a study of magnetic properties of a deficient manganese perovskites system of La$\sub$0.6/Sr$\sub$x/MnTi$\sub$y/O$_3$, and particularly provide its new magnetic phase diagram.
