  • This paper proposes the generalized predictive control(GPC) method of chaotic systems using a self-recurrent wavelet neural network(SRWNN). The reposed SRWNN, a modified model of a wavelet neural network(WNN), has the attractive ability such as dynamic attractor, information storage for later use. Unlike a WNN, since the SRWNN has the mother wavelet layer which is composed of self-feedback neurons, mother wavelet nodes of the SRWNN can store the past information of the network. Thus the SRWNN can be used as a good tool for predicting the dynamic property of nonlinear dynamic systems. In our method, the gradient-descent(GD) method is used to train the SRWNN structure. Finally, the effectiveness and feasibility of the SRWNN based GPC is demonstrated with applications to a chaotic system.

  • For most of pattern recognition applications, it is required to correctly recognize patterns even if they have translation variations. In this paper, to achieve the goal of translation invariant pattern recognition, we propose a new generalized translation invariant second-order neural network using a constraint on the weights. The weight constraint is implemented using generalized translation invariant features which are accumulated sums of pixel combinations. Simulation results will be given to demonstrate that the proposed second-order neural network has the generalized translation invariant property.

  • Here we exhibit multivariate quantitative approximations of Banach space valued continuous multivariate functions on a box or ℝN, N ∈ ℕ, by the multivariate normalized, quasi-interpolation, Kantorovich type and quadrature type neural network operators. We treat also the case of approximation by iterated operators of the last four types. These approximations are achieved by establishing multidimensional Jackson type inequalities involving the multivariate modulus of continuity of the engaged function or its high order Fréchet derivatives. Our multivariate operators are defined by using a multidimensional density function induced by the generalized symmetrical sigmoid function. The approximations are point-wise and uniform. The related feed-forward neural network is with one hidden layer.

  • In this article we exhibit univariate and multivariate quantitative approximation by Kantorovich-Choquet type quasi-interpolation neural network operators with respect to supremum norm. This is done with rates using the first univariate and multivariate moduli of continuity. We approximate continuous and bounded functions on ℝN , N ∈ ℕ. When they are also uniformly continuous we have pointwise and uniform convergences. Our activation functions are induced by the arctangent, algebraic, Gudermannian and generalized symmetrical sigmoid functions.

  • In this paper, we presented a predictive control technique, which is based on wavelet neural network (WNN), for the control of chaotic systems whose precise mathematical models are not available. The WNN is motivated by both the multilayer feedforward neural network definition and wavelet decomposition. The wavelet theory improves the convergence of neural network. In order to design predictive controller effectively, the WNN is used as the predictor whose parameters are tuned by error between the output of actual plant and the output of WNN. Also the training method for the finding a good WNN model is the Extended Kalman algorithm which updates network parameters to converge to the reference signal during a few iterations. The benefit of EKF training method is that the WNN model can have better accuracy for the unknown plant. Finally, through computer simulations, we confirmed the performance of the proposed control method.

  • A neural net based generalized predictive control(NNGPC) is presented for a hydraulic servo position control system. The proposed scheme employs generalized predictive control, where the future output being generated from the output of artificial neural networks. The proposed NNGPC does not require an accurate mathematical model for the nonlinear hydraulic system and takes less calculation time than GPC algorithm if the teaming of neural network is done. Simulation studies have been conducted on the position control of a hydraulic motor to validate and illustrate the proposed method.

  • This paper presents the automatic recognition system for car number plate. In our country, two types of number plate pattern is used. The one is old type of number plate, the other is new type of number plate. To recognize both new and old type number plates, the system must have flexibility. Therefore, in this paper, automatic recognition system is developed by use of the neural network for good adaptation, good generalization, and modulation. And because the number plate is made of three codes, the multi neural network consists of three networks. Neural network is teamed by GDR(Generalized Delta learning Rule) and it is verified the effectiveness of the method through experimental results.

  • Using a generalized regression neural network, etch microtrenching was modeled. All neurons in the pattern layer were equipped with multi-factored spreads and their complex effects on the prediction performance were optimized by means of a genetic algorithm. For comparison, GRNN model was constructed in a conventional way. Comparison result revealed that GA-GRNN model was more accurate than GRNN model by about 30%. The microtrenching data were collected during the etching of silicon oxynitride film and the etch process was characterized by a statistical experimental design.

  • A new method is presented to construct a classifier. This was accomplished by combining a generalized regression neural network (GRNN) and a genetic algorithm (GA). The classifier constructed in this way is referred to as a GA-GRNN. The GA played a role of controlling training factors simultaneously. The GA-GRNN was applied to classify 4 different Promoter sequences. The training and test data were composed of 115 and 58 sequence patterns, respectively. The classifier performance was investigated in terms of the classification sensitivity and prediction accuracy. Compared to conventional GRNN, GA-GRNN significantly improved the total classification sensitivity as well as the total prediction accuracy. As a result, the proposed GA-GRNN demonstrated improved classification sensitivity and prediction accuracy over the convention GRNN.
