Knowledge about Cervical Cancer Early Warning Signs and Symptoms, Risk Factors and Vaccination among Students at a Medical School in Al-Ahsa, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

  • Background: Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among females and also the most preventable. In the literature there is abundant evidence that awareness regarding cervical cancer and its prevention is low in the developing countries. Medical students are the future health professionals and can play an important role in increasing awareness among the general population. To assess the knowledge regarding symptoms, risk factors and prevention of cervical carcinoma among medical students in th Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the present study was planned. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted using a self-administered questionnaire with students at the College of Medicine, King Faisal University, Al-Ahsa, KSA, from December 2012 to May 2013. Results: The responses of 188 students (males 111, females 77) in their second, third, fourth, and fifth years were recorded and used in the data analysis. The majority of the students were not aware of the early warning signs, symptoms and risk factors. On average, only 43.7% males and 56% of females were aware about the early signs and symptoms whereas 51.4% males and 57.8% females had knowledge about the risk factors of cervical cancers. Some 55% males and 46.8% females were unable to select the correct answer regarding human papilloma virus (HPV) infection as the cause of cervical cancer. Majority of the students (67%) were not aware about the availability of vaccine against HPV. Conclusions: Lack of knowledge regarding early signs and symptoms, risk factors and prevention of cervical cancer was observed in the present study.

좋은 컴퓨터 수업에 대한 대학생들의 인식 유형 분석 (Analyzing College Students' Perception of Quality Computer Class)

  • 본 연구는 대학생들이 좋은 컴퓨터 수업에 대하여 어떻게 생각하고 있는지를 밝히기 위함이다. 대학생들의 좋은 컴퓨터 수업에 대한 인식 유형을 분류하고 유형별 특징을 분석하였다. 대학생들의 주관적 생각을 추출하기 위하여 Q 방법론을 이용하였다. 먼저 면담과 선행 연구 분석을 통하여 진술문을 추출한 후 54개의 Q 표본을 선정하였다. 대학생 50명을 남녀 동수로 나누어 P 표본을 구성하고 Q 분류를 하게 하였다. Q 분류는 QUANL 프로그램을 수행하여 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 대학생들이 인식하는 좋은 컴퓨터 수업에 대한 유형은 네 가지로 추출되었다. 그리고 유형별 남녀 간의 차이는 없었으나, 일반대학과 교육대학 학생들은 유형의 차이가 확실히 나타났다. 좋은 컴퓨터 수업에 대하여 <유형 1>은 '창의적 문제해결을 통한 가치관 변화 지향 수업'이며, <유형 2>는 '학습자간 경쟁을 통한 컴퓨터 활용 능력 향상 수업'이고, <유형 3>은 '프로그래밍 능력과 함께 최신 컴퓨터 기술 습득 수업'이고, 그리고 <유형 4>는 '학습자 중심의 즐거운 수업'으로 인식하였다.

보건계열학과와 비보건계열학과 학생들의 구강위생지식 및 관리 실태 (Oral Hygiene Knowledge and the Actual Condition of Oral Care for the Students in the Public Health and non-Public Health Departments)

  • Purpose: This study was to investigate oral hygiene knowledge and the actual condition of oral care for the students in the public health and non-public health Departments. Methods: The survey sample consisted of 262 randomly selected students. 197 of them are public health-related students and 65 are non-public health-related students. The questionnaires used in this study consisted of 4 items for general information, oral health status of 2 items, 5 items for Oral hygiene knowledge and actual condition of oral care of 5 items. Collected data were analyzed by Frequency Analysis t-test and Crosstabs using SPSS(Statistical Package for Social Sciences) Win 19.0 statistics program. Results: Regarding general characteristics of the subjects, there were 53.8% of first-year student, 26.0% of second-year student and 20.2% of third-year student among 52.3% of males and 47.7% of females. The subjects received less than "100,000" won(13.0%), "100,000-190,000" won (5.0%), "200,000-290,000" won(30.9%), "300,000-390,000" won (33.2%) and more than "400,000" won(17.9%) a month for an allowance. The subjects had 'none' (44.3%), '1'(6.5%), '2'(12.6%), '3'(5.0%), '4'(5.3%), 'more than' 5(0.8%) of dental caries and 'do not know' were 25.6%. The numbers of dental prosthetics were 'no' (35.5%), '1'(13.7%), '2'(17.2%), '3'(10.3%), '4'(11.5%), and 'more than 5'(11.8%). The public health students(84.8%) had a higher positive response rate than the non-public health students(66.2%). The public health students(80.2%) had a higher negative response rate than the non-public health students(78.5%) in the result of onset of gum disease pain awareness. The non-public health students(65.5%) had a higher negative response rate than the public health students(68.3%)) in the result of heredity of gum disease. The t-test showed that public health-related department students(M=8.264, SD=0.821) had more knowledge about oral hygiene than non-public health-related department students(M=8.015, SD=1.082). 'do not use' in the oral care products except toothpaste and toothbrush showed that public health-related department students(60.4%) use the products more than non-public health-related department students(66.2%). Conclusion: In this study, public health-related department students had higher oral hygiene knowledge and actual condition of oral care compared to non-public health-related students, but low in practical action. Due to the lower level of dental care products use in non-public health-related department, a continuous oral care education program is required.

음주 여부에 따른 원주지역 남자대학생의 건강상태와 식습관 조사 (Survey on Health Status and Food Habits of Male College Students in Wonju Area According to Drinking Behavior)

  • This study was performed to investigate the health status and food habits of male college students in Wonju according to drinking behavior. A total of 204 (drinking group: 133, non-drinking group: 71) male college students were recruited and a questionnaire-based survey was conducted. General characteristics, drinking-related factors, health status, and food habits were investigated. Data were analyzed by SPSS program (ver 21.0). The type of residence (P<0.05) and obesity rate (P<0.05) were significantly different by drinking status. Frequency of drinking was 65.2%, and 39.9% of subjects started drinking upon entering college. The motivation to start drinking was 'from necessity'. Reason for drinking was 'Social relations'. The most frequent drinking opportunity in college was 'membership training'. The favorite kind of drink was beer. Health status factor scores for 'concerns about health (P<0.05)', and 'smoking (P<0.05)' were significantly higher in drinking group than those in non-drinking group. Food habits score (drinking group: 50.9 vs non-drinking group: 52.4, P<0.01) was significantly lower in the drinking group. Scores for 'I have breakfast regularly (P<0.05)', 'Do not eat the junk food often (P<0.05)', and 'Do not eat out often (P<0.05)' were significantly lower in the drinking group. 'Drink milk every day' was significantly higher in the drinking group.

대학생이 인식하는 '공유대학'의 의미와 역할 (A Study on the Undergraduates' Perception of 'Shared Universities')

  • This study is to explore the meaning and role of "Shared Universities" as perceived by college students. Currently, shared universities are being promoted as an important innovative strategy to overcome the decline in the college-age population and enhance the quality of education by sharing human and material resources among individual universities. This study aims to examine the meaning and value of "shared universities" as perceived by college students who actually participate in shared university programs from the perspective of the demand side. Specifically, the study seeks to explore what students feel and experience through shared university education in order to derive implications for future shared university operations.

치위생과 학생의 감성지능이 대학생활 적응에 미치는 영향 (Influence of college life adjustment on emotional intelligence in dental hygiene students)

  • The purpose of the study was to investigate the influence of college life adjustment on emotional intelligence in dental hygiene students. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 550 dental hygiene students in Daegu from May to June, 2016. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects, emotional intelligence scale, and student adaptation to college questionnaire using Likert 5 point scale. Data were analyzed by t-test, one way ANOVA, post hoc $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, Pearson's correlation test, and multiple regression test. Results: The mean scores of emotional intelligence 3.40 points and college life adjustment 3.14 points were above average. Every sub-field of emotional intelligence had static correlation, and there was a close correlation between college life adjustment and every specific field. The academic adjustment (r=0.515) and institutional adjustment (r=0.458) showed strong correlation with the emotional intelligence. The higher the emotional intelligence score was, the higher the college life adjustment was. Variables having statistically significant influence on college life adjustment included economic status, major satisfaction, self-emotional, use of emotional and emotional control (37.7%, p<0.001). Conclusions: Emotional intelligence played a significant role in dental hygiene students to adapt well with the demands of college life. The college should provide the efficient programs in the curriculum that helps enhance emotional intelligence of the students.

초등학생들의 학교안전생활 실천에 관한 실태조사 연구 (A Study of Primary School Students' Practicing Safety Procedure during Their School Life)

  • This paper surveys and researches primary school students' situation of their school life. The purpose of this paper is to propose the basic information of the accident prevention teaching and the safety management in order to avoid accidents to occur beforehand. We selected m primary students out of the six primary schools in Taebaek City at which the nursing students of Kangwon Tourism College practiced school health. We used SPSS Win for analyzing data. We carne up with the general characteristics and percentage using frequency analysis, mean and standard deviation of each item, the mean difference using T-Test, and the different factors using one-way analysis. The results are as follows: 1. The 6th grade students don't practice safety procedures than the 5th grade students during outside the school. The older the student is, the less it practices safety procedures. 2. Boys practice safety procedures better than the girls during inside and outside the school. 3. Hot -tempered students don't practice safety procedures properly. 4. Most of the students who often use the health room of the school have high scores in safety procedures test and as a result, these students practice safety procedures thoroughly. 5. The grade of safety living activity is the highest during gymnastic class. Next is when the students use the stairs when they are going up and clown. Then, the use of science room In the playground is the lowest grade of safety for living activity.

COVID-19 팬데믹 시기 간호대학생의 사회접촉과 자살사고: 우울, 외로움의 매개효과 (Influence of Social Contact on Suicidal Ideation among Nursing Students during the COVID-19 Pandemic: The Mediating Effects of Depression and Loneliness)

  • Purpose: Over the past two years, most Korean nursing students had to go through distance learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During the pandemic, amental health crisis has emerged among nursing students in South Korea. The study aimed to examine the relationships among social contact, depression, loneliness, and suicidal ideation. Methods: A cross-sectional survey design was used to collect data from nursing students. The survey was conducted onlinein South Korea. A total of 184 nursing students were recruited from December 2021 to April 2022. For data analysis,the frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation of the general characteristics of the subjects were calculated using IBM/SPSS Statistics 25.0. To examine the mediating effect of depression and loneliness on the relationship between social contact and suicidal ideation, multiple linear regression was used to analyze associations among social contact, depression, loneliness, and suicidal ideation. Results: The average age was 22.69±5.66 years (range=18~54), and the sex distribution was 155 females among 184 nursing students. Lower social contact among nursing students was significantly associated with higher depression and loneliness. Loneliness significantly mediated the relationship between social contact and suicidal ideation innursing students. Conclusion: The findings suggest that strategies for enhancing social contact and reducing depression and loneliness should be considered to improve suicidal ideation among nursing students.

A Study of Research Ethics Related to Plagiarism among University Students

  • Purpose: This study aims to investigate and identify the current awareness of plagiarism among university students in their assignments and find ways to take measures against it. This study can be used as a basis for plagiarism prevention education for instructors and learners at universities, as well as for providing standards for plagiarism in assignment design and for dealing with distrust and conflict among students due to plagiarism. Research design, data and methodology: This study was conducted in July 2024 with a survey of 347 students majoring in aviation and tourism at a university in the Chungcheong-do region. In order to investigate the current status and perception of plagiarism in college students' class work, this study referred to previous studies on plagiarism among college students and conducted a questionnaire consisting of 22 questions, including 3 questions on general matters, 7 questions on plagiarism perception, 5 questions on reasons for plagiarism, and 7 questions on research ethics experience. Results: In the survey results through this study, it was found that most of the university students were aware of the concept of plagiarism, but more students were unable to accurately distinguish the recognition of specific content such as citations. The reason for plagiarism in assignments was found to be the easiest to use Internet data. Regarding the research ethics experience, it was found that most of the students lacked experience at school or during class.

Influences for the understanding of General Chemistry according to the completion of chemical subjects in high school

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the influences on the understanding and academic achievement in general chemistry according to chemical grades in high school and College Scholatic Ability Test. We investigated the difference between the completed subjects in high school and the elective subjects in the Test, degree of understanding of the general chemistry according to the subjects completed in high school, and the effects on the academic achievement of general chemistry by dint of the chemical grades in high school and the Test, etc. By the results of the student's perception survey, most of the students choose Chemistry I at the Test. It was found that the understanding of general chemistry was greatly affected by the chemical elective subjects of high school. Chemical grades in high school and the Test were found to have a significant influence on academic achievement of general chemistry.
