Study of a Durability Test for Single-input Multi-output Power Take-off Gearboxes (단일입력 다출력 PTO 기어박스의 내구성시험에 관한 연구)

  • This study analyzed a life test method for a power take-off (PTO) gearbox. An engine transfers mechanical power (rotation and torque) to a hydraulic pump through a PTO Gearbox with one input shaft and three output shafts. PTO gear box durability under high loads over long time periods was tested using dynamometers. In order to reflect the rated operating conditions, power must be distributed to each output shaft, and experiments were conducted under various conditions to verify the characteristics of the distributed power. An accelerated life test was designed using speed and torque as acceleration factors. Also, efficiency tests were conducted under various load conditions. Also, a lubrication oil composition analysis was performed to analyze gearbox wear status.

  • The deterioration of a shunting locomotive was characterized for the lifetime assessment. The locomotive has been used for shunting works in steel making processes, and in this investigation, various types of technical evaluation methods for the locomotive parts were employed to assess the current deterioration status and to provide important clue for lifetime prediction. Unlike other rolling stocks in railway applications, the diesel shunting locomotive is composed of major components such as diesel engine, transmission, gear box, brake system, electronic devices, etc. In this paper, the degree of deterioration in a diesel engine and power transmission parts has been presented based on the analysis results.

The locomotive has been used for shunting works in steel making processes, and in this investigation, various types of technical evaluation methods for the locomotive parts were employed to assess the current deterioration status and to provide important clue for lifetime prediction. Unlike other rolling stocks in railway applications, the diesel shunting locomotive is composed of major components such as diesel engine, transmission, gear box, brake system, electronic devices, etc., which cover more than 70 percent of the total price of the locomotive. Therefore, in this paper, each part of major components in the diesel locomotive was analyzed in terms of the degree of deterioration. The life-cycle-cost (LCC) analysis was performed based on the maintenance and repair history as compared with economical cost to provide the cost-effective prediction, i.e., to assess either repair for reuse or putting the locomotive out of service based on cost-effective calculation.

  • Automatic Transmission System(ATS) was designed to replace the human's manual operation of the gear box. So far, this system operates with the fixed shift pattern information. In this paper, new algorithm considering driver's operation tendency is proposed. Also, to get rid of the uselessly frequent shift of the ATS, the conditions and the status of the vehicle would be included for the evaluation in making a decision of shifting. A field test is done in a car equipped with the computer set connected to Transmission Control Units(TCU) to check the status of the test car, and it shows the excellency of the proposed algorithm.

  • In order to operate SI(Spark Ignition) engine at the optimal fuel efficiency, it is necessary to use continuously variable transmission(CVT) which has more excellent fuel consumption property than transmissions of gear box types commonly used. This study introduces new type of nonlinear control approach to control precisely CVT including nonlinear characteristics. The nonlinear controller is basically composed of input-state feedback linearization, which can cancel the nonlinearities included in CVT on specific controllable area, and sliding-mode control. In this paper, good control performance of contrtol system with the nonlinear controller is confirmed with computer simulations.

  • Objective of this paper is to introduce a new technology known as prognostics and health management (PHM) which enables a real-time life prediction for safety critical systems under extreme loading conditions. In the PHM, Bayesian framework is employed to account for uncertainties and probabilities arising in the overall process including condition monitoring, fault severity estimation and failure predictions. Three applications - aircraft fuselage crack, gearbox spall and battery capacity degradation are taken to illustrate the approach, in which the life is predicted and validated by end-of-life results. The PHM technology may allow new maintenance strategy that achieves higher degree of safety while reducing the cost in effective manner.

  • A Dual rotor turbines HAWT/VAWT combined wind turbine system that can drastically enhance the power production capability compared to conventional Single Rotor Turbine HAWT system. The combined system that takes advantage of strong point of both horizontal and vertical Axis wind turbine system developed by a venture firm : KOWINTEC of Chonbuk National University. The HAWT/VAWT hybrid system has been successfully field tested and commercial operation since Feb. 12, 2001 in Hae-chang rest park, Bu-an county near the Sae Man-Kum Sea Dike. This paper will briefly describe the field test results performance and a special aerodynamic structure with bevel-planetary gear box of Dual Rotor Wind Turbine system.

Coordinated Control of DFIG System based on Repetitive Control Strategy under Generalized Harmonic Grid Voltages

  • This paper develops a coordinated control strategy of the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) system based on repetitive control (RC) under generalized harmonic grid voltage conditions. The proposed RC strategy in the rotor side converter (RSC) is capable of ensuring smooth DFIG electromagnetic torque that will enable the possible safe functioning of the mechanical components, such as gear box and bearing. Moreover, the proposed RC strategy in the grid side converter (GSC) aims to achieve sinusoidal overall currents of the DFIG system injected into the network to guarantee satisfactory power quality. The dc-link voltage fluctuation under the proposed control target is theoretically analyzed. Influence of limited converter capacity on the controllable area has also been studied. A laboratory test platform has been constructed, and the experimental results validate the availability of the proposed RC strategy for the DFIG system under generalized harmonic grid voltage conditions.

  • Blade pitch control system monitors and adjusts angle of the blades and controls rotation speed of blades. This paper shows 2MW pitch system hardware and electric part. Blade pitch system consists of pitch drive, gear box, motor and energy storage. Fieldbus is base on CANopen protocol. Fail-Safe system moves the blades to a safety position in case of any fault condition. The super capacitor energy storage provides emergency back up to the Pitch servo driver during feathering the blades. This paper studied Blade pitch servo driver and a bi-directional DC-DC converter for fail-safe system.
