Study on Accelerated Life Test Design for a Gear Type Lubrication Pump for Automatic Transmission (자동변속기 윤활용 기어펌프의 가속 수명시험 설계에 관한 연구)

  • A gear type lubrication pump is an essential component of the powertrain and has a major role for supplying oil to the gears and bearings in automatic transmission with a hydraulic clutch. Therefore, the durability test code design of lubrication pump is very important to ensure the reliability of the entire transmission and the vehicle. In this study, the design process for the life testing of lubrication pump has been generalized by four steps. The four design steps of the life testing of lubrication pump consist of the configuration of load spectrum, rain flow counting and analysis of load level, the equivalent damage assessment and test code generation. In fact, the load spectrum should be obtained from the field operating condition but that kind of data is the top secret of manufacturers. This is not open to the public in general. So we could use the artificially simulated load spectrum instead of field obtained one and focused on the development of the general process for designing the life test of a gear type lubrication pump. Reliability goals for lubrication pump, pressure, torque, temperature and load spectrum, if present, as appropriate for the given test conditions, accelerated life testing for the lubrication pump can be designed by the developed design steps.

Experimental Study on Reducing the Adherence Phenomenon between Idle Gear and Housing for Low-Pressure Fuel Pump of Excavator Engine (굴삭기 엔진용 저압연료펌프의 아이들 기어와 하우징 사이의 고착 현상 개선에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • This paper describes the adherence phenomenon, including the tribological characteristics, of a low-pressure fuel pump in a diesel engine for an excavator. Most fuel pumps of a diesel-engine excavator are of the fixed-quantity-gear type and have low pressure. However, the developed pumps develop problems in the pumping system owing to performance instability. Cavitation, which is the main obstacle to stable driving in the pump, occurs between an idle gear and the housing to produce a serious adherence problem. The present study not only examined how to suppress cavitation in a pump but also developed a simple method to improve pump performance through the early creation of a lubrication film with a phosphoric acid coating on the surface of the idle gear. The results showed that the coating successfully prevents breakage of the idle gear due to adherence.

A Study on the Trapping Phenomenon and Relief Port Position of Oil Hydraulic Gear Pump (유압 기어펌프의 폐입현상과 릴리프 홈의 위치에 관한 연구)

  • It is possible for a volume of fluid to become trapped in the space between two adjoining teeth ad the tips of the teeth engage in Gear Pump with involute teeth. This trapped fluid leads to several harmful results, for example fluctuating pressure and aeration of pump. In this study, hence, theoretical and experimental analyses on this 'Trapping' were accomplished as using relief port(or escape port), one of the means for avoid it. Also, the grasp and analysis on variational type of the internal pressure in parallel with above experiments are achieved so that hydrodynamic behaviors in pump were contemplated.
