Blur is an important type of image distortion. How to evaluate the quality of blurred image accurately and efficiently is a research hotspot in the field of image processing in recent years. Inspired by the multi-scale perceptual characteristics of the human visual system (HVS), this paper presents a no-reference image blur/sharpness assessment method based on multi-scale local features in the spatial domain. First, considering various content has different sensitivity to blur distortion, the image is divided into smooth, edge, and texture regions in blocks. Then, the Gaussian scale space of the image is constructed, and the categorized contrast features between the original image and the Gaussian scale space images are calculated to express the blur degree of different image contents. To simulate the impact of viewing distance on blur distortion, the distribution characteristics of local maximum gradient of multi-resolution images were also calculated in the spatial domain. Finally, the image blur assessment model is obtained by fusing all features and learning the mapping from features to quality scores by support vector regression (SVR). Performance of the proposed method is evaluated on four synthetically blurred databases and one real blurred database. The experimental results demonstrate that our method can produce quality scores more consistent with subjective evaluations than other methods, especially for real burred images.
Multimedia is a ubiquitous and indispensable part of our daily life and learning such as audio, image, and video. Objective and subjective quality evaluations play an important role in various multimedia applications. Blind image quality assessment (BIQA) is used to indicate the perceptual quality of a distorted image, while its reference image is not considered and used. Blur is one of the common image distortions. In this paper, we propose a novel BIQA index for Gaussian blur distortion based on the fact that images with different blur degree will have different changes through the same blur. We describe this discrimination from three aspects: color, edge, and structure. For color, we adopt color histogram; for edge, we use edge intensity map, and saliency map is used as the weighting function to be consistent with human visual system (HVS); for structure, we use structure tensor and structural similarity (SSIM) index. Numerous experiments based on four benchmark databases show that our proposed index is highly consistent with the subjective quality assessment.

Dark channel prior means that, for undistorted outdoor images, at least one color channel of a pixel or its neighbors have values close to 0, and thus the prior can be used to estimate the amount of distortion for given distorted images. In other words, if an image is distorted by blur, its dark channel values are averaged with neighbor pixel values and thus increase. This paper proposes a method that estimates blur strengths by analyzing the variation of dark channel values caused by blur. Through experiments with images distorted by Gaussian and horizontal motion blur with given strengths, the usefulness of the proposed method is verified.

Artificial intelligence is used in fusion with image processing techniques using cameras. Image processing technology is a technology that processes objects in an image received from a camera in real time, and is used in various fields such as security monitoring and medical image analysis. If such image processing reduces the accuracy of recognition, providing incorrect information to medical image analysis, security monitoring, etc. may cause serious problems. Therefore, this paper uses a mixture of YOLOv4-tiny model and image processing algorithm and uses the COCO dataset for learning. The image processing algorithm performs five image processing methods such as normalization, Gaussian distribution, Otsu algorithm, equalization, and gradient operation. For RGB images, three image processing methods are performed: equalization, Gaussian blur, and gamma correction proceed. Among the nine algorithms applied in this paper, the Equalization and Gaussian Blur model showed the highest object detection accuracy of 96%, and the gamma correction (RGB environment) model showed the highest object detection rate of 89% outdoors (daytime). The image binarization model showed the highest object detection rate at 89% outdoors (night).

This paper proposes a real-time method using a 3-axis accelerometer to enhance blurred images taken from a camera loaded in mobile devices. Blurring phenomenon is a smoothing effect occurring in photo images. Algorithms to cope with blurring phenomenon is essential since small-size mobile devices tremble severely by even a tiny hand-shaking of a user. In this paper, accurate sensing characteristics of the 3-axis accelerometer is acquired by applying the sensor in pendulum motion and the blurring phenomenon is modeled as a uniform distribution and Gaussian distribution. Also, non-Gaussian distributed model is observed in the experiment of real blurring phenomenon and a particular deblurring function is designed by reversing the model. It has been demonstrated that the application of trembling information to the deblurring function adequately removes the blurring phenomenon.
In this paper, we have implemented a network that overcomes the over-blurring phenomenon that occurs when removing Gaussian noise. In the conventional filtering method, blurring of the original image is performed to remove noise, thereby eliminating high frequency components such as edges and corners. We propose a network that reducing over blurring while maintaining denoising performance by adding denoised high frequency components to denoisers based on CNN.

The scattered light pattern from a machined surface generally contains much information concerning the surface roughness. The light pattern can be acquired by optical system and analyzed by statistical method. This kind of surface roughness measurement system can be easily adopted on the machine measurement. But the fully assembled system is too complex to implement on small systems using micro-controller. This study proposes the idea of reducing the number of optical components by removing screen and examines image processing of a light pattern to minimize the negative result of incomplete optical system. And the Gaussian blur filtering is concluded to be the best method of proposed measurement system. Furthermore light intensity variation of image pattern can be treated as a signal, therefore FIR filtering gives the similar result of Gaussian blur effect.
This paper addresses a problem of defocus map recovery from single image. We describe a simple effective approach to estimate the spatial value of defocus blur at the edge location of the image. At first, we perform a re-blurring process using Gaussian function with input image, and calculate a gradient magnitude ratio with blurring amount between input image and re-blurred image. Then we get a full defocus map by propagating the blur amount at the edge location. Experimental result reveals that our method outperforms a reliable estimation of depth map, and shows that our algorithm is robust to noise, inaccurate edge location and interferences of neighboring edges within input image.

There have been many researches to yield higher resolution image quality from the low resolution CCD device. The resolution of it is primary factor for the image quality of digital still camera and in manufacturing price. IN this paper, image enlargement algorithm, which reduces blocking effect of enlarged low resolution image and minimizes ringing and blur effect occurring around edge in linear interpolation, is proposed. This algorithm is composed of gaussian low pass filter which eliminates aliasing, least square spline interpolation and non-linear interpolation based on step edge model.

In this paper, we propose a no-reference objective Quality assessment metrics of image. The blockiness and blurring of edge areas which are sensitive to the human visual system are modeled as step functions. Blocking and blur metrics are obtained by estimating local visibility of blockiness and edge width, For the blocking metric, horizontal and vertical blocking lines are first determined by accumulating weighted differences of adjacent pixels and then the local visibility of blockiness at the intersection of blocking lines is obtained from the total difference of amplitudes of the 2-D step function which is modelled as a blocking region. The blurred input image is first re-blurred by a Gaussian blur kernel and an edge mask image is generated. In edge blocks, the local edge width is calculated from four directional projections (horizontal, vertical and two diagonal directions) using local extrema positions. In addition, the kurtosis and SSIM are used to compute the blur metric. The final no-reference objective metric is computed after those values are combined using an appropriate function. Experimental results show that the proposed objective metrics are highly correlated to the subjective data.
