Coal has made a wonderful contribution to the production of cheap electricity. Coal based power plants have been the backbone of world's electricity for a long time now. Coal while being cheap and easily available is also a source of various solid, liquid and gaseous effluents which are responsible for the environmental degradation. Environmental issues caused by coal need to be studied and analyzed, then a common global consensus must be formed. Efficient action must be taken against each and every type of pollutant that is produced by this particular industry. The research aims to provide a brief overlook of the environmental impact of India's coal-based power plants. The aim of this study is to introduce a novel environmentally feasible energy scenario for the future of Indian power sector which has been named as "OPES". OPES is mathematically simulated using the combination of GAMS and LEAP. OPES is simple to comprehend and can be reproduced easily for other case studies as well. Results show that OPES can help the Indian power sector to minimize its environmental impact without causing any problems in the energy supply.
The oxidation of carbon monoxide by gaseous oxygen on 0.53, 1.02, and 1.51 mol $\%$CoO-doped $-Fe_2O_3$ catalysts has been investigated in the temperature range from 340 to 480$^{\circ}C$ under various CO and $O_2$ partial pressures. The oxidation rates have been correlated with 1.5-order kinetics; the 0.5-order with respect to $O_2$ and the first-order with respect to CO. In the above temperature range, the activation energy is 0.34 $\pm$ 0.01 eV${\cdot}$$mol^{-1}$. The electrical conductivity of 0.53, 1.02, and 1.51 mol %CoO-doped $\alpha$-$Fe_2O_3$ has been measured at 350$^{\circ}C$ under various $P_{CO}and $P_{O_2}$. From the conductivity data it was found that $O_2$ was adsorbed on Vo formed by doping with CoO, while CO appeared essentially to be chemisorbed on the lattice oxygen of the catalyst surface. The proposed oxidation mechanism and the dominant defect were supported by the agreement between the kinetic data and conductivities.
Cadmium-doped indium sesquioxide systems with a variety of CdO mol % were prepared to investigate the effect of doping on the electrical properties of indium sesquioxide. The electrical conductivities of pure $In_2O_3$ and Cd-doped $In_2O_3$ systems were measured in the temperature range from 25 to $1200^{\circ}C$ and $P_O_2$ range from $10^{-7}$ to $10^{-1}$ atm, and the thermoelectric power was measured in the same temperature range. The electrical conductivity and thermopower decreased with increasing CdO mol % indicating that all the samples are n-type semiconductors. The electrical conductivities of pure $In_2O_3$ and lightly doped $In_2O_3$ were considerably affected by the chemisorption $O_2$ at temperatures of 400 to $560^{\circ}C$ and then gaseous oxygen was reversibly chemisorbed at the temperature. The predominant defects in $In_2O_3$ are believed to be triply-charged interstitial indiums at temperatures above $560^{\circ}C$ and oxygen vacancies below $560^{\circ}C$. In Cd-doped $In_2O_3$ systems, cadmium acts as an electron acceptor and inhibits the transfer of lattice indium to interstitial sites, which give rise to the decrease of the electrical conductivity.
The oxidation of carbon monoxide by gaseous oxygen in the presence of a powdered $Nd_{1-x}Sr_xCoO_{3-y}$ solid solution as a catalyst has been investigated in the temperature range from 150$^{\circ}$C to 300$^{\circ}$C under various CO and $O_2$ partial pressures. The site of Sr substitution, nonstoichiometry, structure, and microstructure were studied by means of powder X-ray diffraction and infrared spectroscopy. The electrical conductivity of the solid solution has been measured at 300$^{\circ}$C under various CO and $O_2$ partial pressures. The oxidation rates have been correlated with 1.5-and 1.2-order kinetics with and without a $CO_2$ trap, respectively; first-and 0.7 order with respect to CO and 0.5-order to $O_2$. For the above reaction temperature range, the activation energy is in the range from 0.25 to 0.35 eV/mol. From the infrared spectroscopic, conductivity and kinetic data, CO appears essentially to be adsorbed on the lattice oxygens of the catalyst, while $O_2$ adsorbs as ions on the oxygen vacancies formed by Sr substitution. The oxygen vacancy mechanism of the CO oxidation and the main defect of $Nd_{1-x}Sr_xCoO_{3-y}$ solid solution are supported and suggested from the agreement between IR data, conductivities, and kinetic data.

Nano-multilayered $Cr_{25.2}Al_{19.5}Si_{4.7}N_{50.5}$ films were deposited on the steel substrate by cathodic arc plasma deposition. They were corroded at $900^{\circ}C$ in $Ar/1%SO_2$ gas in order to study their corrosion behavior in sulfidizing/oxidizing environments. Despite the presence of sulfur in the gaseous environment, the corrosion was governed by oxidation, leading to formation of protective oxides such as $Cr_2O_3$ and ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$, where Si was dissolved. Iron diffused outward from the substrate to the film surface, and oxidized to $Fe_2O_3$ and $Fe_3O_4$. The films were corrosion-resistant up to 150 h owing to the formation of thin ($Cr_2O_3$ and/or ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$)-rich oxide layers. However, they failed when corroded at $900^{\circ}C$ for 300 h, resulting in the formation of layered oxide scales due to not only outward diffusion of Cr, Al, Si, Fe and N, but also inward movement of sulfur and oxygen.
In this study, we designed cold gas propulsion system with minimum 0.25 mm nozzle and micro-thrust measurement system to analyze flow characteristic of micro propulsion system in ambient and vacuum condition. Argon and Nitrogen are used for propellant and the result of experiments is compared with CFD analysis and theory. But there is a point where reduced scale versions of conventional propulsion systems will no longer be practical. Therefore, a fundamentally different approach to propulsion systems was taken. That is thermal transpiration based micro propulsion system. It has no moving parts such as lubricants, pressurizing system and can pump the gaseous propellant by temperature gradient only(cold to hot). We are advancing basic research of propulsion system based on thermal transpiration in vacuum conditions and had tried experiment process and theoretical access in advance. To characterize membrane of Knudsen pump, we select Polyimide material that has low thermal conductivity(0.29 W/mK) and can stand high temperature($300^{\circ}C$) for long time. And we fabricated hole diameter 1, 0.5, 0.2, 0.1 mm using precision manufacturing. Experimental results show that pressure gradient efficiency of Knudsen pump is increased to maximum 82% according to Knudsen number and thick membranes are more effective than thin membranes in transition flow regime.
Biomass has been used for energy sources from the prehistoric age. Biomass are converted into solid, liquid or gaseous fuels and are used for heating, electricity generation or for transportation recently. Solid biofuels such as bio-chips or bio-pellet are used for heating or electricity generation. Liquid biofuels such as biodiesel and bioethanol from sugars or lignocellulosics are well known renewable transportation fuels. biogas produced from organic waste are also used for heating, generation and vehicles. Biomass resources for the production of above mentioned biofuels are classified under following 4 categories, such as forest biomass, agricultural residue biomass, livestock manure and municipal organic wastes. The energy potential of those biomass resources existing in Korea are estimated. The energy potential for dry biomass (forest, agricultural, municipal waste) were estimated from their heating value contained, whereas energy potential of wet biomass (livestock manure, food waste, waste sludge) is calculated from the biological methane potential of them on annual basis. Biomass resources potential of those 4 categories in Korea are estimated to be as follows. Forest biomass 355.602 million TOE, agricultural biomass 4.019 million TOE, livestock manure biomass 1.455 million TOE, and municipal organic waste 1.074 million TOE are available for biofuels production annually.
