  • In this paper, ozonizer using U-type lamp(Olamp) has been designed and manufactured, which can perform a role of lighting source and ozonizer by using photo and chemical methods. The discharge, spectrum, illuminance, ozone concentration, ozone generation, ozone yield and sterilization characteristics of Olamp have been studied. The important conclusions obtained from this paper can be summa'||'&'||'not;rized as follows. As a result of spectrum characteristics for Olamp, ultraviolet ray of a short wave'||'&'||'not;lengths and a visible ray are radiated. The illuminance of Olamp was found to be useful for "color distinctive and intermittent works in the dark working spaces" in accordance with KS A 3011. The ozone concentration of gaseous phase is inversely proportional to quality of supplied gas. Also, ozone conce tration and generation of gaseous phase are rised more commercial oxygen gas than those trial air gas for constant quality of supplied gas. Ozone generation and ozone yield of gaseous phase are proportion'||'&'||'not;al to ozone concentration of gaseous phase. The characteristics of liquid ozone concentration at distilled water are proportional to circulating velocity of fermentation chamber and ozone concentration of gas'||'&'||'not;eous phase. As a result, the sterilization characteristics of Escherichia coli have been obtained more than 97[ % J.

  • The synthesis and crystal structure of amorphous calcium carbonate obtained from gas-liquid reaction of CaO-$C_2 H_5 OH$-$CO_2$ system according to change of added amount of calcium oxide by blowing $CO_2$ gas and reaction time using ethanol and ethylene glycol were investigated by electric conductivity, X-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscope. The powdery or gelatinous phases were prepared by passing $CO_2$ gas at a flow rate of 1$\ell$/min into the suspensions containing 10~40g of CaO in mixing solutions 900ml of $C_2 H_5 OH$- and 100ml of ethylene glycol. By rapid filtration and drying the both phases at $60^{\circ}C$ under reduced pressure, the phases converted to the spherical vaterite and amorphous phase. The stable phase of amorphous calcium carbonate(ACC) was formed in the region pH 7-9 but the formation regions of amorphous phase were remarkably affected by pH in the mother liquor. It seems that a part of ACC changed into chain calcite as an intermediate products. The initial reactants prior to the formation of precipitated calcium carbonate is ACC. And ACC is unstable in the aqueous solution and crystallizes finally to calcite by the through-solution reaction. Especially ACC was produced or gelatinous phase which precipitated from the reaction of CaO-$C_2 H_5 OH$-$CO_2$ system.

  • This paper describes the grid-size dependency of the conventional Eulerian-Lagrangian method to spray characteristics such as spray penetration and SMD in modeling DME sprays. In addition, the reduction of the grid-size dependency of the present Gas-jet model was investigated. The calculations were performed using the KIVA code and the calculated results were compared to those of experimental result. The results showed that the conventional Eulerian-Laglangian model predicts shorter spray penetration for large cell because of inaccurate calculation of momentum exchange between liquid and gas phase. However, it was shown that the gas-jet model reduced grid-size dependency to spray penetration by calculating relative velocity between liquid and ambient gas based on gas jet velocity.

  • Onsite usage of construction equipment accounts for a 6.8% of air pollution in Korea. The high concentration of carbon dioxide in such emissions impact not only climate change, but also people's health. However, greenhouse gas emissions from onsite equipment usage have not yet been fully investigated. This study presents a comparative analysis on how much greenhouse gas is generated by various equipment types used in different construction activities. Two ongoing cases which involve a typical road construction project in Korea were selected for the comparison purpose. Greenhouse gas emissions from each onsite equipment usage of the different activities were estimated on the ground of design documents. The estimates were compared and analyzed to derive the main sources of greenhouse gas emissions. The result showed that earthwork constituted the largest part-more than 90%-among work types. Dump truck, bulldozer, and loader were major sources for such emissions. The study results are expected to be used as a basis for reduction of greenhouse gas emission from onsite equipment usage.

  • Under the era of energy crisis, hydrogen energy is considered as one of the most potential alternative energies. Liquid hydrogen has much higher energy density per unit volume than gas hydrogen and is counted as the excellent energy storage method. In this study, Navier-Stokes equations based on 2-phase model were solved by using a computational fluid dynamics program and the liquefaction process of gaseous hydrogen passing through a cryogenic cooling tube was analyzed. The copper with high thermal conductivity was assumed as the material for cryogenic cooling tube. For different inlet velocities of 5 m/s, 10 m/s and 20 m/s for hydrogen gas, the distributions of fluid temperature, axial and radial velocities, and volume fractions of gas and liquid hydrogens were compared. These research results are expected to be used as basic data for the future design and fabrication of cryogenic cooling tube to transform the hydrogen gas into liquid hydrogen.

  • Industrial-scale pulse corona process to remove $SO_2$ and $NO_x$ simultaneously from combustion flue gas has been studied. The pilot plant built in the present study treats 2,000 $Nm^3$/hr of flue gas from a boiler. The geometry of the pulse corona reactor is similar to that of an electrostatic precipitator commonly used in industry, A thyratron switch and magnetic pulse compressors, which can generate up to 130 kV of peak pulse voltage and up to 30 kW of average pulse power, have been used to produce pulsed corona. The removal efficiencies of $S0_2$ and $NO_x$ with the present process are maximum of 95 % and 85 %, respectively. Electrical power consumption to produce the pulsed corona, which has been one of the major difficulties to apply this process to industry, has been evaluated in the present study. The results showed that the power consumption can be reduced significantly by simultaneous addition of hydrocarbon injection and heterogeneous phase reactions to the process.

  • The reaction of gas-phase atomic hydrogen with oxygen atoms chemisorbed on a silicon surface is studied by use of the classical trajectory approach. We have calculated the probability of the OH formation and energy deposit of the reaction exothermicity in the newly formed OH in the gas-surface reaction H(g) + O(ad)/Si${\rightarrow}$ OH(g) + Si. All reactive events occur in a single impact collision on a subpicosecond scale, following the Eley-Rideal mechanism. These events occur in a localized region around the adatom site on the surface. The reaction probability is dependent upon the gas temperature and shows the maximum near 1000 K, but it is essentially independent of the surface temperature. The reaction probability is also independent upon the initial excitation of the O-Si vibration. The reaction energy available for the product state is carried away by the desorbing OH in its translational and vibrational motions. When the initial excitation of the O-Si vibration increases, translational and vibrational energies of OH rise accordingly, while the energy shared by rotational motion varies only slightly. Flow of energy between the reaction zone and the solid has been incorporated in trajectory calculations, but the amount of energy propagated into the solid is only a few percent of the available energy released in the OH formation.

  • To analyze the mixture formation process of evaporating diesel spray is important for emissions reduction in actual engines. Then the effects of change in density of ambient gas on spray structure in high temperature and pressure field have been investigated in this study. The ambient gas density was changed from ${\rho}_a=5.0kg/m^3$ to ${\rho}_a=12.3kg/m^3$ with CVC(Constant Volume Chamber). Also, simulation study by modified KIVA-II code was conducted and compared with experimental results. The ambient temperature and injection pressure are kept as 700K and 72MPa, respectively. The images of liquid and vapor phase in the evaporating free spray were simultaneously taken by exciplex fluorescence method. As experimental results, with increasing ambient gas density, the tip penetration of the evaporating free spray decreases due to the increase in the drag force from ambient gas. The spatial structure of a diesel spray can be verified as 2-regions consisted of liquid with momentum decrease and vapor with large-scale vortex. The calculated results obtained by modified KIVA-II code show good agreements with experimental results.
