  • This study evaluated the mechanical characteristics and durability of porous concrete produced with a cementless binder based on ground granulated blast furnace slag (BFS), fly ash (FA) and flue gas desulfurization gypsum (CP). As a result, the void ratio was increased slightly from the target void ratio, by 1.12-1.42 %. Through evaluating the compressive strength, it was found that the compressive strength of porous concrete with cementless binder decreased in comparison to the compressive strength of porous concrete with ordinary Portland cement (OPC), but the difference was insignificant, at 0.6-1.4 MPa. Through the freeze-thawing test to evaluate the durability, it was found that the relative dynamic elastic modulus of porous concrete with cementless binder decreased to 60 % or less at 80 cycles. The result of the chemical resistance test showed that the mass reduction rate was 12.3 % at 5 % HCl solution, and 12.7 % at 12.3 and 5 % $H_2SO_4$ solutions.

  • Fuel cell vehicles are equipped with Pressure Relief Devices(PRDs) installed in pressure tank cylinder to prevent the explosion of the tank during a fire. PRDs are safety devices that perceive a fire and release gas in the pressure tank cylinder before it is exploded. But if the PRD does not actuate, because either the PRD fails or can't be surrounded by the flame of a fire, the tank will rupture and produce a blast wave and hydrogen fire ball. In this paper, we observed the fire behavior of actual fuel cell vehicle, comparing with that of gasoline vehicle.

  • We develop a parallel cosmological hydrodynamic simulation code designed for the study of formation and evolution of cosmological structures. The gravitational force is calculated using the TreePM method and the hydrodynamics is implemented based on the smoothed particle hydrodynamics. The initial displacement and velocity of simulation particles are calculated according to second-order Lagrangian perturbation theory using the power spectra of dark matter and baryonic matter. The initial background temperature is given by Recfast and the temperature uctuations at the initial particle position are assigned according to the adiabatic model. We use a time-limiter scheme over the individual time steps to capture shock-fronts and to ease the time-step tension between the shock and preshock particles. We also include the astrophysical gas processes of radiative heating/cooling, star formation, metal enrichment, and supernova feedback. We test the code in several standard cases such as one-dimensional Riemann problems, Kelvin-Helmholtz, and Sedov blast wave instability. Star formation on the galactic disk is investigated to check whether the Schmidt-Kennicutt relation is properly recovered. We also study global star formation history at different simulation resolutions and compare them with observations.

  • The oxygen gas behavior in PDP (plasma Display Panel) glass melts doped with sulfate ($SO_4^{-2}$) or blast furnace slag (BFS, $S^{2-}$) or both by means of yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) electrodes was observed after the first fining. The temperature dependence of oxygen equilibrium pressure ($P_{O2}$) in each melt showed typical behavior, namely $P_{O2}$ decreased as temperature decreased. This suggests that an oxidation of $S^{4+}$ to $S^{6+}$ took place. However, the $P_{O2}$-value at constant temperature increased in the following order: BFS$P_{O2}$ of the melt doped with sulfate+BFS was much lower than that of the melt with only sulfate, although only 10% of sulfur was added by the BFS. This behavior can be explained by the redox reaction between sulfide ions in the BFS and dissolved oxygen ions in the melt during the first fining.

  • Ablation occurs at irradiance beyond $10^9\;W/cm^2$ with nanosecond and short laser pulses focused onto any materials. Phenomenologically, the surface temperature is instantaneously heated past its vaporization temperature. Before the surface layer is able to vaporize, underlying material will reach its vaporization temperature. Temperature and pressure of the underlying material are raised beyond their critical values, causing the surface to explode. The pressure over the irradiated surface from the recoil of vaporized material can be as high as $10^5\;MPa$. The interaction of high power nanosecond laser with a thin metal in air has been investigated. The nanosecond pulse laser beam in atmosphere generates intensive explosions of the materials. The explosive ejection of materials make the surrounding gas compressed, which form a shock wave that travels at several thousand meters per second. To understand the laser ablation mechanism including the heating and ionization of the metal after lasing, the temporal evolution of shock waves is captured on an ICCD camera through laser flash shadowgraphy. The expansion of shock wave in atmosphere was found to agree with the Sedov's self-similar spherical blast wave solution.

  • In order to investigate the origin of multiple stellar populations in the halo and bulge of the Milky Way, we have constructed chemical evolution models for the low-mass proto-Galactic subsystems such as globular clusters (GCs). Unlike previous studies, we assume that supernova blast waves undergo blowout without expelling the pre-enriched gas, while relatively slow winds of massive stars, together with the winds and ejecta from low and intermediate mass asymptotic giant branch stars, are all locally retained in these less massive systems. We first applied these models to investigate the origin of super-helium-rich red clump stars in the metal-rich bulge as recently suggested by Lee et al. (2015). We find that chemical enrichments by the winds of massive stars can naturally reproduce the required helium enhancement (dY/dZ = 6) for the second generation stars. Disruption of these "building blocks" in a hierarchical merging paradigm would have provided helium enhanced stars to the bulge field. Interestingly, we also find that the observed Na-O anticorrelation in metal-poor GCs can be reproduced, when multiple episodes of starbursts are allowed to continue in these subsystems. Specific star formation history with decreasing time intervals between the stellar generations, however, is required to obtain this result, as would be expected from the orbital evolution of these subsystems in a proto-Galaxy. The "mass budget problem" is also much alleviated by our models without ad-hoc assumptions on star formation efficiency and initial mass function.

A specific form of star formation history with decreasing time intervals between the stellar generations, however, is required to obtain this result, which is in good agreement with the parameters obtained from our stellar evolution models for the horizontal-branch. The "mass budget problem" is also much alleviated by our models without ad-hoc assumptions on star formation efficiency and initial mass function. • High temperature reaction behaviors of various oxide materials (such as bauxite, pyrophyllite, mullite and fused silica powders) used in the refractory materials for tap-hole plugging of blast furnace were investigated with varying temperature in the carbon surrounding. Kinetics of carbothermal reduction of $SiO_2$ for forming SiC with high corrosion resistance were strongly dependent on it's crystalline phase. SiC generation yield increased with increasing catalyst amount in oxide regardless of generated SiO gas amount at temperature of $<1500^{\circ}C$. However, in case of fused silica over $1500^{\circ}C$, SiC generation yield was dominantly influenced by SiO amount without catalyst effect. Bauxite showed the most effective carbothermal reduction reaction, since bauxite have a large amount of catalyst and well-dispersed $SiO_2$ phase in oxide matrix.
