  • The purpose of this study was investigated optimal exposure condition in digital magnification mammography to decrease radiation dose and increase image quality of the examinee. Auto mode, the average glandular dose is higher than the manual mode. Average glandular dose and image quality were many differences on between grid and air gap technique in auto mode. However, Average glandular dose and signal-to-noise ratio were not different on between grid and air gap technique in manual mode. The signal-to-noise ratio was increased when using the air-gap technique in both mode. According to result, air gap technique may reduce average glandular dose and increase signal-to-noise ratio in digital magnification mammography.

  • This study is put a focus on the identification of sound characteristics according to the interior configuration of sound absorption material and air gap. Noise barrier is general consists of front perforated panel, air layer, sound absorption material, air gap and back plate. Noise barrier is required to the NRC value of 0.7. The absorbing performance of the noise barrier relies on the opening ratio of the perforated panel and the efficiency of the absorbing material. This study has observed the effect of opening ratio and hole size, the increase of sound absorbing performance by the configurations of sound absorption material and air gap. New designed noise barrier is achieved the acoustical performance of 0.87 the measurement in a reveration room.

  • For the purpose of controlling the coupling between the car body panels and passenger compartment, experimental investigation of an acoustic cavity with an air gap is carried out to reveal how the air gap influences the acoustic modal characteristics of the cavity. The acoustic modal characteristics of the cavity is closely related with the booming noise. The experimental results show that a very small air gap can change the acoustic modal characteristics of the cavity and, as a result, the air gap can be an important factor in controlling the booming noise for comfortable and safe passenger compartment.

  • The main noise and vibration source of the BLDC rotary compressor for air conditioner was analyzed by using the measurement of noise and vibration, noise contour, and experimental modal analysis. The source is presumed to the mechanical resonance excited by the electromagnetic attractive force of the BLDC motor. To reduce the excessive noise of the BLDC rotary compressor due to the mechanical resonance, air-gap enlargement and structural dynamic modification were applied in this paper. Its validations were conducted by the analysis of the electromagnetic attractive force which is generated by the BLDC motor and by the measurement of noise and vibration of the BLDC rotary compressor. By enlarging the length of air-gap and conducting the structural dynamic modification, the noise and vibration in the compressor was significantly improved by 4.5 dB(A) and 56 percent, respectively.

  • A theoretical formulation on the forced acoustic response of an enclosed cavity having a double air-gap resonator on one of boundary panels of the cavity is developed in the paper. The double gap resonator consists of two air-gaps and two partition sheets as in the author's previous papers. This paper reveals that the double gap resonator reduces the level of a target noise peak by splitting the peak as two small peaks, and that it is more effective when it is designed so that the upper gap thickness is larger than the lower gap thickness under the constraint that the entire gap thickness is fixed as a constant value. Finally, verification experiments show that the theoretical formulation and analysis results are valid by comparing theoretical results with experimental ones.

  • Recently, high noise problem was experienced during the development of 2-pole squirrel cage motor for industrial compressor. In order to firstly identify the noise characteristics, a variety of measurements were carried out. It was found out that high noise was dominated by linear and nonlinear slot noise components. For the development of low noise indusrial motor, the air gap between rotor and stator in the motor was firstly enlarged. Secondly, it was also modified for the cooling housing to have high absorption features. Consequencely, low noise 2-pole motor having the noise level of less 80㏈(A) was developed. In this paper, a series of noise identification and control process for this motor are introduced.

  • In this paper, we proposed a method to measure the gap between the magnetic pole and the levitated object applying the inductance characteristic which vary according to gap. We made a driving circuit which supply the control input PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) signal and the carrier PWM signal to estimate the gap. Because the inductance is a function of gap, and the current of the carrier signal is a function of the inductance. We investigated the validity of the proposed method through the experimental results.

  • In this paper, it is presented that the effect of air gap insertion in testing the transmission loss of sound barrier using structural vibration system. In this study, we use the APAMAT based on the structure-borne-noise. The measured results show that air gap insertion improves transmission loss as results of test based on the air-borne-noise. The measured results are compared with the predicted transmission loss using the transfer matrix method. The predicted results were found to be in reasonable agreement with measured results.

  • As road noise became an issue, low-noise pavement (LNP) has emerged. The noise difference from general asphalt pavement (GAP) is a measure to explain the noise reduction of LNP. On the other hand, even for GAP, noise varies with the performance years (PY) and pavement condition. This study evaluated the representative noise value (RNV) by the speed and PY of GAP. Sections of 49selected from the National Road Pavement Management System, and the noise was measured at speeds from 50km/h to 80km/h at every 10km/h using the Close Proximity Method (CPX). Because the noise immediately after construction differed from the other, it was treated separately, and some outliers were removed. The noise increased with increasing PY. In addition, the noise increase by speed showed a reliable trend at all noise levels. The RNV for each speed and PY was obtained through analyses of the PY and speed. The average noise difference between the initial construction and the six-year-paced pavement was approximately 6dB. When evaluating the noise reduction of LNP, it is necessary to use RNV rather than the noise of old pavement. The RNV of GAP is necessary for a relative comparison with LNP and studying the road noise characteristics for each GAP type.

  • This paper presents the effect of air gap insertion on the results in measuring the transmission loss of sound barrier by using APAMAT. The measured results show that air gap insertion improves transmission loss as by two-room method or intensity method. The measured results are compared with the predicted transmission loss using MATLAB GUI program based on the transfer matrix method. Predicted results were found to be in reasonable agreement with measured results.
