  • Existing retaining walls are usually made from only one cast form and any damage must be promptly repaired. However, when a part of a retaining wall is repaired, a gap can be created between the repaired and existing parts, along with an unpleasing visual effect. As such, the whole structure is often reconstructed, rather than repairing one part, resulting in construction waste and possible contamination of the environment. Accordingly, the current study proposes a construction method for a retaining wall that uses separate blocks to downsize of quantity of construction waste. In addition, by changing the color or modifying the block cover a more environmentally friendly retaining wall construction method is achieved.

  • Recently, as container ships become larger and faster, rudder cavitations are more frequently observed near the gap between the horn and rudder plates of the ships to cause serious damages to the rudder surface of the ship. The authors already have suggested through a series of model experiments and numerical computations that employment of an appropriate blocking device for gap flow may retard the gap cavitation. For examples, a cam device installed near the outer edges of the vertical gap or a water-injection device combined with a pair of half-round bars installed inside the gap can considerably reduce the gap cavitation. However, it is also found that effective blocking of the flow through the vertical gap results in growth of the cavitation near the horizontal gap instead. In the present study, effectiveness of the simultaneous blocking of the flow through the horizontal and vertical gaps of a horn type rudder in minimizing the damage by gap cavitation is studied. Additional blocking disks are inserted inside the horizontal gaps on the top and bottom of the pintle block and numerical computations are carried out to confirm the combined effect of the blocking devices.

  • First-principles investigations on the hybrid one dementional hexagonal hybrboron-nitride nano ribbons (BNNRs) with a armchair graphene nano-ribbons(AGRNRs), are presented. Electronics properties of the mixed armchair BNC nano-ribbon (BNCNRs) structure show control of a band gap on all cases at the special K-point. And we have studied, the band gap is direct in all cases. The band gap of mixed ABNCNRs could be divided into three groups (${\Delta}3p$, ${\Delta}3p+1$ and ${\Delta}3p+2$) and decrease with the increase of the width. Also these results show similar to the AGNRs case. Different from the band gap value ordering of AGNRs (${\Delta}3p+1$ > ${\Delta}3p$ > ${\Delta}3p+2$), the ordering of ABNCNRs is ${\Delta}3p$ > ${\Delta}3p+1$ > ${\Delta}3p+2$. The discrepancy may come from the differences between the edges of AGRNRs and the boundaries of hybrid BNCNRs. In addition, the bandgap of ABNCNRs are much smaller than those of the corresponding AGNRs. Our results show that the origin of band gap for BNCNRs with armchair shaped edges arises from both quantum confinement effect of the edges. These results similar to thecase of AGNRs. These properties of hybrid BN/C nano-ribbon structure may offer suitable bandgap to develop nnanoscale electronics and solar cell beyond individual GNRs and BNNRs.

  • A basic study on the lifting lug design has performed through the rational and systematic process. In order to evaluate the proper design-load distribution around lug eye investigation of contact force between lifting lug and shackle pin is performed using non-linear parametric analysis idealized by gap element models. Gap element modeling and nonlinear analysis procedures are illustrated and discussed based on MSC/NASTRAN. Some analysis and design guides are suggested through the consideration of several important effects such as stress distribution pattern, circumferential contact force distribution along the lug eye face, loading share rate between lug main plate and doubler, effect of loading direction, relation between applied force and deflection and size effect of shackle pin radius. Additionally optimum design studies are performed and general trends according to the variation of design parameters are suggested.

  • The paper presents an accurate loss model based controller of an induction motor to calculate the optimal air gap flux. The model includes copper losses, iron losses, harmonic losses, friction and windage losses, and stray losses. These losses are represented as a function of the air gap flux. By using the calculated optimal air gap flux compared with rated flux for speed sensorless indirect vector controlled induction motor, an improvement in motor efficiency is achieved. The motor speed performance is improved using a fuzzy logic speed controller instead of a PI controller. The fuzzy logic speed controller was simulated using the fuzzy control interface block of MATLAB/SIMULINK program. The control algorithm is experimentally tested within a PC under RTAI-Linux. The simulation and experimental results show the improvement in motor efficiency and speed performance.

  • In order to protect secret digital documents against vulnerabilities while communicating, steganography algorithms are applied. It protects a digital file from unauthorized access by hiding the entire content. Pixel-value-difference being a method from spatial domain steganography utilizes the difference gap between neighbor pixels to fulfill the same. The proposed approach is a block-wise embedding process where blocks of variable size are chosen from the cover image, therefore, a stream of secret digital contents is hidden. Least significant bit (LSB) substitution method is applied as an adaptive mechanism and optimal pixel adjustment process (OPAP) is used to minimize the error rate. The proposed application succeeds to maintain good hiding capacity and better signal-to-noise ratio when compared against other existing methods. Any means of digital communication specially e-Governance applications could be highly benefited from this approach.

  • In the year 2020, a new lightweight block cipher µ2 is proposed. It has both good software and hardware performance, and it is especially suitable for constrained resource environment. However, the security evaluation on µ2 against impossible differential cryptanalysis seems missing from the specification. To fill this gap, an impossible differential cryptanalysis on µ2 is proposed. In this paper, firstly, some cryptographic properties on µ2 are proposed. Then several longest 7-round impossible differential distinguishers are constructed. Finally, an impossible differential cryptanalysis on µ2 reduced to 10 rounds is proposed based on the constructed distinguishers. The time complexity for the attack is about 269.63 10-round µ2 encryptions, the data complexity is O(248), and the memory complexity is 263.57 Bytes. The reported result indicates that µ2 reduced to 10 rounds can't resist against impossible differential cryptanalysis.

  • In general, a number of lifting lugs have been used in shipbuilding industry and the D-type lugs are mainly used. The aim of this paper is to increase the cycle of the use and to reduce the size of lifting lugs to introduce lightweight shackle. In this study, nonlinear elasto-plastic analysis has been performed to confirm the ultimate strength of lifting lugs. In order to evaluate the proper design-load distribution around lug eye, the contact force between lifting lug and shackle pin has been realized by gab element model. Gap element modeling and nonlinear analysis are carried out using the finite element program MSC/PATRAN & ABQUS. Additionally the ultimate strength tests were performed to verify the structural adequacy of newly designed lifting lug and to insure safety of it. The D-10, 15, 20 & 40 ton models which are mainly used in the block erection are selected in the strength test. According to the results of the analysis and strength test, the ultimate strength of the newly designed lifting lugs has been estimated to exceed 3 times of design working load.
