  • The purpose of this study is to analyze user-generated rules in online games and to define the way of players' identities are developed. This study focuses on the online game League of Legends, which originated from use map system. Based on rule theory, this study analyzes the characteristics of user-generated rules. As the result, this study proves that the main rule of online game is not the rules made by developers, but the emergent rules made by players. Through rule-detection and rule-selection process, user-generated rules change the game system. Therefore, the result of this study expects to show meaningful roles of players in game system.

  • This research is to classify game rules which are important factors for the game, and to define the basis of the each level of rules and concepts. In terms of these definitions, the process of transformation in the game rule is analyzed, and examined the development related to evolution. The rule of digital game is analogous to the biological evolution. From this point of view, This research presents the structural similarities between the game rules and biological evolution. It is for the investigation of the development using new perspective and for the conceptualization of the process. Moreover it makes us rediscover the game as a scholastic research subject.

  • Computer games need game formulas which express game rules by mathematical functions because the game rules are automatically processed by computers. The game formulas are usually multi-variable functions. So the design of a game formula is a complex and difficult problem because it is the same problem of the design of a multi-variable function which should satisfy the related game rules. In this paper we propose a new method which can systematically design game formulas. The purposed method is the decomposing of tree structure for a game formula by analyzing the tree structure of the operands which have single-variable functions on the lowest levels. So the design method can change the complex and difficult problem of the design of a multi-variable function to the simple and easy problem of the design of the single-variable function which should satisfy the related game rules.

  • Emotion is one of the elements of the game that will help the user interaction. The way to express the emotions and personality of the character was taken into account severity of reaction to action or a specific graphics in the game so far. However recently structured for the interest in the study of emotion increases and to utilize a variety of feelings in the game is needed. In the field of autonomous agents, studies of the possibility of the use of emotion, defined 12 different emotion rules. In this paper, we dilate by defining the terms used in the game rules of emotion made the rules of the emotion of the game. And, we analyzed emotions in actual game character used Game Emotions Rule. As a result, it was possible to see the rules of the game feeling separate from that being used for game genre similar.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest ways to design gamification to improve the game and digital addiction. For the study, 782 of gmaification cases were collected and game mechanics and fun experience were analyzed by 4F process which is to design the effective gamification. To find the specific pattern, apriori algorithm, which is to find associated rules in transaction is applied to the 782 cases. According to the results, 63 of game mechanics associated rules are found. In the fun experience, 37 of associated rules are found. Based on the result, this study suggest the direction of gamification design for game and digital addiction improvement.

  • In game developments, the design results are often modified not only in the design phase but also in the implementation and test phases. The results of game design are consisted of the results of game rule design and the results of game contend design. The results of game rule design should be correctly understood to all the participants, be efficiently managed by the given configuration controls, and be accurately verified. In this study, we carry out a survey of representation methods of game rules in game design. We have the comparison analysis of the written representation, the UML representation, the Petri net representation, and script-language representation methods about the suitability of the representation method for game rule designs. The comparison analysis is about the representation scope, the visual representation, the automated verification, and the configuration management. The analysis results show that the UML representation is the best method but it needs more convenient automated verification method.

  • We would use a coin or a game of Rock-Paper Scissors before the a main game to determine which team will begin first. We can use the game of Rock-Paper Scissors to choose one of two or one of many. There can be many rules in a game of Rock-Paper Scissors between two teams and two teams may consist of a different number of players. In this paper, we find the means and variances of the total number of games till the winning team is decided according to different game rules.

  • A smart robot game, which is one of the new type expanding the market through coding education classes recently, has a characteristic to manipulate digital games with a smart-phone while using a robot instead of existing games. Under the same rules, the virtual world's game is connected to real world's robot through a smart-phone, and the game is played while exchanging data. This study analyzes smart robot game by dividing them into media features, digital game features, and playful features. In addition, we developed the game based on the board game genre that has the general rules while using the derived development features. As a result, by presenting the case of development of smart robot board game, we would like to propose the points to be considered in the development of smart robot game.

  • Recently in the gaming market, immoral game behaviors such as flaming, trolling, and illegal program use have drawn attention as serious problems. With 209 gamers of , this study analyzed the effects of perception toward in-game rules, social identity, moral identity, and moral positioning with control of gender and gaming time. Results showed that moral identity and formal moral perception toward in-game rules had positive effects while moral positioning and social identity had negative effects on immoral behavior. Notably, moral identity had interaction effect with moral positioning.
