One of the characteristics of the hearing impaired is that their frequency selectivity is poorer than that of the normal hearing. To compensate this, formant enhancement algorithms and spectral contrast enhancement algorithms have been developed. However in some cases, these algorithms fail to improve the frequency selectivity of the hearing impaired. One of the reasons is the acoustic masking among enhanced formants. In this study, we tried to enhance the formants based on the individual masking characteristic of each subject. The masking characteristic used in this study was minimum level difference (MLD) between the first formant to the second formant while acoustic masking was occurred. If the level difference between the two formants in each frame is larger than the MLD, the gain of the first formant was decreased to reduce the acoustic masking that occurred among formants. As a result of the speech discrimination test, using formant enhanced speeches, speech discrimination score (SDS) of the speeches having differently enhanced formants was significantly superior to SDS of the speeches having equally enhanced formants. It means that suppression of the acoustic masking among formants improve frequency selectivity of the hearing impaired.

A tile type active T/R(Transmit/Receive) module for X-band active array radar is demonstrated in this paper. Proposed tile type structure based on fuzz button solderless vertical interconnection shows wide band characteristic of about 30 % bandwidth in X-band with insertion loss of below 0.6 dB and input and output VSWR of less than 1.7. Moreover, the mismatching generally appeared in the vertical interconnection which shown wide band characteristic can also be minimized and, therefore, good gain flatness can be achieved.

In this paper, a super wideband printed dipole antenna operating in the band of 1-15 GHz is studied. A semi-circular-shaped dipole element is used to obtain a super wideband characteristic. Optimal design parameters are obtained by analyzing the effects of the gap between the two arms of the semi-circular-shaped dipole and the radius of the semi-circle on the input reflection coefficient and gain characteristics. The optimized printed semi-circular-shaped dipole antenna is fabricated on an FR4 substrate with a dimension of $100mm{\times}100mm$. Experimental results show that the antenna has a desired super wideband characteristic with a frequency band of 1-15 GHz (bandwidth ration 15:1, 175%) for a VSWR < 2.

Many control techniques have been proposed in order to improve the control performance in discrete-time domain control system. In control system using these techniques, the response-characteristic of system is dependent on the gains of the controller. Specially, There is a need to readjust the gain of controller when the response of system is changed by disturbance or load fluctuation. In this paper, I-PD controller and pre-compensator are designed by multilayer neural network. The gains of I-PD controller and pre-compensator are adjusted automatically by back propagation algorithm when the response characteristic of system is changed under a condition. Applying this control technique to the position control system using a DC servo motor as a driver, the control performance of controller is verified by the results of experiment.

In this paper, hysteresis voltage control method is proposed to an unidirectional inverter control for piezoelectric load. Piezoelectric load has electrically RC characteristic, and is driven by the inverter to control the output voltage waveform. When controling the output waveform by PI control, appropriate gains need to be selected. However, hysteresis control may minimize the output distortion because it has maximum proportional gain. In addition, Hysteresis control algorithm has simple structure to realize and the response is fast. Although the switching frequency of the inverter by hysteresis control varies, the switching frequency for the piezoelectric load is lower than that by PI control for equivalent performance. In particular, on implementing the algorithm using FPGA, the algorithm can be implemented in fewer pabrics and the processing time can be reduced. The superiority of the proposed hysteresis voltage control was proved for piezoelectric load through simulation and experiment.
The study was conducted experimentally on characteristic of thermal decomposition and minimum ignition temperature of magnesium dusts. For this purpose, three different Mg dusts of mean diameter (38, 142, $567{\mu}m$) were used. Experimental investigations were conducted by using TGA(Thermo gravimetric analysis) and MIT(Minimum Ignition Temperature) apparatus made in accordance with IEC 61241-2-1 standard. As the results, temperature of weight gain in Mg dust layers increased with increasing of heating rates in air and, under the same heating rate condition, minimum ignition temperature increased with particle size. Also the MIT of suspended Mg dust clouds tended to increase with increasing of mean diameter.

In this paper, a wideband loop antenna for UWB applications is studied. The proposed wideband loop antenna consists of a circular loop and circular sectors. Circular sectors with a ultra-wideband characteristic are used to connect the circular loop and the center feed points. Optimal design parameters are obtained by analyzing the effects of the gap between the circular sectors and the radius of the circular loop on the input reflection coefficient and gain characteristics. The optimized wideband loop antenna is fabricated on an FR4 substrate with a dimension of $41mm{\times}41mm$. Experimental results show that the antenna has a desired UWB characteristic with a frequency band of 3.1-11.0 GHz for a VSWR < 2.25.

In this paper, we propose the control method of output impedance of each cascode unit cell of distributed amplifier by connecting varactors in the gate-terminal of common gate. Compared to common source unit cell, cascode unit cell has many advantages such as high gain and high output impedance as well as negative resistance loading. But if the transistor model which is used in design is inaccurate and process parameter is changed, oscillation sometimes can occur at band edge in which the gain start to drop. Therefore, we need control circuit which can prevent oscillation, although the circuit has already fabricated, and varactor connected to gate-terminal of common gate of cascode gain cell can play that part. Measured result of fabricated distributed amplifier shows the capability of contol of gain characteristic by adjusting of value of varactors, this can guarantee the stability of the circuit. The gain is $8.92\pm0.82dB$ over 49 GHz, the group delay is $\pm9.3 psec$ over 41 GHz. All transistor which has $0.15{\mu}m$ gate length is GaAs based p-HEMT, and distributed amplifier is put together with 4 stages.
T$_1$/T$_2$ weighted images are being used to give the characteristic contrast among the various tissues and the norma;/abnormal tissues. Abnormalities in tissues, in general, accompany the biochemical changes and eventually structural ones in which results in the change in T$_1$ and T$_2$ relaxation times of water protons. It has been suggested that the mapping of T$_1$/T$_2$ values may serve as a possible tool for the quantitative evaluation of the degree of abnormality. On reconstructing T$_1$/T$_2$ maps(or any other MR parametric map), only corresponding variables are to be varied, such as TE for T$_2$, TI or TR for T$_1$ and b-factor for diffusion images. But often the receiver gain is taken for the optimal usage of A/D converter, so that the set of the image data has different receiver gain. It must be corrected before any attempt to reconstruct the maps. Here we developed method of correcting receiver gain variation effect, using the standard deviation of noise on individual image. The resultant T$_1$ and T$_2$ values were very comparable to the other reported values.

The water level of a steam generator of pressurized light water nuclear Power generator is known as a subject whose control is difficult because of a shrinking and swelling effect that is been mutually contradictory in a variation of feed water. In this paper, a neural network model selects first coordinative controller by a inappropriate gain of two PI controllers and the selected controller's gain is tuned by a fuzzy self-tuner. Model inputs consist of the water level, the feed water, and the stream flow. One controller of both coupling controllers whose gain is handled firstly is decided based upon above data. The proposed method can analyze patterns of signals using the characteristic of neural networks and select one controller that needs to be tuned through the observed result in this paper. If one controller between both the water level controller and the feed water controller is selected by the neural network model then a gain of the PI controller is suitably tuned by the fuzzy self-tuner. Rules of the fuzzy self-tuner drew from the pattern of input and output data. In the summary, the goal of this Paper is to select the suitable controller and tune the control gain of the selected controller suitably through such two processes.
