A Sutdy on the UWB Intenna with Band-Stop Function for Mobile Handsets (대역 저지 특성을 갖는 휴대 단말기용 초소형 UWB Intenna에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, small UWB antenna with band-stop function for mobile handsets is proposed. A gap between radiator and under and side ground is adjusted for small size and broadband. A radiator is folded to the back side of PCB for miniaturization and tapered feeding structure is used to enhance matching characteristic. A antenna clearance has a size of $14{\times}14\;mm^2$ and a size of radiator is $10{\times}7\;mm^2$. It covers all UWB band from 3.15 GHz to 4.75 GHz and from 7.2 GHz to 10.2 GHz for VSWR<2 and has band stop characteristic at 5.8 GHz. A maximum gain is measured as 5.85 GHz. In case conventional handset case is considered, it also covers all UWB and a maximum gain is measured from -2 dBi to -2 dBi.

  • In this paper, we designed the stack monitoring system with improved performance. To block the incoming pulse noise to the amplifier, shield and the power supply impedance are reduced and the power circuit is isolated. The control unit is developed with variable high voltage, adaptive gain, offset and threshold in order to match the scintillation detector characteristic to the apparatus. 300-1500V variable high voltage power circuit is configured applicable to various scintillation detector. Stack monitoring system with improved performance guarantee the efficiency and the reliability by considering the characteristic of various scintillation detector. Developed stack monitoring system is evaluated with certified testing equipment and shows excellent performance with respect to the uncertainty of the sensor test results.

  • A V-band MIMIC quadruple subharmonic mixer is reported in this paper. The cascode harmonic generator is proposed for a high conversion gain. The proposed cascode harmonic generator is shown with a 4-th harmonic output characteristic that represents an average of 2.9 dB and a maximum of 4 dB higher than the conventional multiplier. The measured result of the subharmonic mixer has a conversion gain of 3_4 dB which a good conversion gain at a LO power of 13 dBm. Isolations of LO-to-IF and LO-to-RF were obtained -53.6 dB and -46.2 dB, respectively. The conversion gain of the subharmonic mixer in this study has a higher conversion gain compared with some other reports in millimeter-wave range.

  • In this paper, we fabricated pantacene TFTs using PVP copolymer and cross-linked PVP as gate insulator on glass and plastic (PET) substrate. Depending on the density of PVP and poly (melamine-co-formaldehyde) the performance has been changed. We obtained the best performance with the mobility of 0.12cm2/V sec and the on/off current ratio of $1.19{\times}10^6$ for the case of $10wt\%$ PVP copolymer mixed with $5wt\%$ poly(melamine-co-formaldehyde). Additionally using OTFTs with the above PVP gate insulator, we fabricated the integrated circuit including inverter which produced the gain of 5.56 on the glass substrate and gain of 9.7 on the plastic (PET) substrate. And the threshold voltage was respectively +8V and +14v$ldots$

  • This paper introduces a novel horn antenna for circular polarization using a planar-type radiator. This antenna can be divided to two parts, microstrip antenna and square horn. The microstrip antenna has the role of feeder and polarizer of the horn antenna, and it is designed to stacked type having metal spacer for high gain, high isolation and wideband characteristic. Using the proposed antenna structure, the horn antenna needs not additional structure such as feeder and polarizer, and the size of it can be considerably reduced. The horn antenna has typical gain of 8dBi and 3-dB axial-ratio bandwidth around 4.9%.This antenna can widely used for various antenna system for mobile and satellite communication using circular polarization expecially in high frequency band.

  • The microstrip reflectarray antenna is rapidly becoming an attractive alternative solution to the traditional parabolic reflector antenna. However, the bandwidth of the microstrip reflectarray using the single layer structure is very narrow. To obtain wide bandwidth characteristic, the microstrip reflectarray using the multi-layer structure has been used, but it has some disadvantages such as high cost and complicated design. In this paper, to obtain low cost and wide bandwidth, the microstrip reflectarray antenna composed of square patch with two U-slots using the single-layer structure is proposed. The proposed antenna demonstrate radiation efficiency closed to 55.5 % and 1 dB gain bandwidth over 14 % at 12.5 GHz.

  • In this paper, data transmission corrugated horn antenna for RF sensor satellite system and its radiation characteristic are presented. The proposed antenna is designed, fabricated and measured to obtain the maximum gain at ${\pm}60^{\circ}$ of its radiation patterns. The result of the proposed antenna is that the return loss is less than -15 dB and the gain is over 5 dBi at ${\pm}60^{\circ}$ of its radiation patterns. From these results, it is confirmed that the proposed can be used as data transmission corrugated horn antenna for RF sensor satellite system.

  • This paper is proposed a high Performance speed control of the synchronous reluctance motor through the SV-PWM(Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation) of FAM-PI(Fuzzy Adaptive Mechanism-PI). SV-PWM is controlled using FAM-PI control. SV-PWM can be maximum used maximum do link voltage and is excellent control method due to characteristic to reducing harmonic more than others. Fuzzy control has a advantage which can be robustly controlled. FAM-PI controller is changed fixed gain of PI controller using fuzzy adaptive mechanism(FAM) to match operating condition. The results on a speed controller of IPMSM are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed gain tuner. And this controller is better than the fixed gains one in terms of robustness, even under great variations of operating conditions and load disturbance.

  • Halftoning of gray-scale image is a process to produce a binary image. The error diffusion halftoning method produces high qualify binary image but that has some defects such as sharpening and directional artifacts. We propose the threshold modulation to reduce such defects. The proposed algorithm uses thresholds reflecting local characteristic of image. We calculate thresholds which minimize errors of flat region of each gray-scale level by using a linear gain between original image and error-diffused image and then represent edge by compensating thresholds in proportion to edge information. The proposed method improves on halftone quality by minimizing an error which cause sharpening and directional artifact.

  • BLDC motor is used in a wide variety of industrial and servo applications. Its features and advantages mainly consist in high value of torque/inertia ratio, high efficiency with speed range and high dynamic performance. This paper deals with the speed control of a trapezoidal type brushless DC motor using Fuzzy PI controller. The conventional PI controller has been widely used in industrial applications. If we select a optimal PI control gain, the PI controller shows very good control performance. But it is very difficult to find the optimal PI control gain. Fuzzy control does not need any model of plant and is basically adaptive and gives robust performance for plant parameter variation. Therefore the combinations of conventional PI controller and fuzzy controller seem to be very effective. This paper deals with PI controller with 4-rule based fuzzy controller. The proposed fuzzy PI controller increases the control performance of the conventional PI controller. Simulation and experimental results show that fuzzy PI controller has a good robustness regarding the improper tuned PI controller.
