  • ${\ulcorner}$Hamsansachon Dongyi Suse Bowon Gabogubon${\lrcorner}$ , discovered in 2000, can give very precious information in order to study the formation and development process of ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Suse Bowon${\lrcorner}$ ${\ulcorner}$The Dircourse on the Constitutional Symptoms and Disease${\lrcorner}$ . I examined, by comparison, changes in understanding pathology explained in ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Suse Bowon${\lrcorner}$ ${\ulcorner}$The Discourse on the Constitutional Symptoms and Disease${\lrcorner}$ of Gabobon and Sinchukbon, and consequently tried to define the concept of Dispositional Symptom(Dispositional disease) as below, in a point of view that ‘Dispositional Symptom(Dispositional disease)’ should be the key word in explaining the changes in understanding of pathology. Dispositional Symptom(dispositional disease) is a new concept that was first troduced in the Kyongjabon, not found in the Gabobon, and that played a key role in editing ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Suse Bowon${\lrcorner}$ ${\ulcorner}$The Discourse on the Constitutional Symptom and Disease${\lrcorner}$ . Dispositional Symptom(dispositional disease) means an innate temperament or a pathological tendency, which is already constructed in the system of an individual, prior to expression of specific diseases and symptoms, and can be a primary basis to tell the susceptibility and developing pattern of a certain disease, to decide how to treat and forecast the prognosis. Sinchukbon inductively categorized symptoms of the dispositional symptom (dispositional disease) into the concept of ‘Eight principles’, or eight standards of diagnosis, such as superficies-interior, cold-heat, and weakness-strength.

Results and Conclusions (1) In ${\ulcorner}$DongMuYooGo${\lrcorner}$ and ${\ulcorner}$SooSe Bowon Sasang Chobonguen${\lrcorner}$, Dongmu Lee Je-Ma?s conception about soeumin Gwakran(곽란(藿亂)) Disease is yet based on previous traditional medicine based on ${\ulcorner}$DongEuiBoGam${\lrcorner}$ (2) In ${\ulcorner}$SooSe Bowon Gabobon${\lrcorner}$, Seupgwakran(습곽란(濕藿亂)) is described within the catego of Taeum syndrome(태음병(太陰病)), and Geongwakran(건곽란(乾藿亂)) is described within the catergory of Soeum syndrome(소음병(少陰炳)). But conception about Soeurnin Gwakran(곽란(藿亂)) Disease is not yet definitely settled. (3) In ${\ulcorner}$SooSe Bowon Sinchucbon${\lrcorner}$, Geongwakran(건곽란(乾藿亂)) is described within a severe case of Taeum syndrome(태음병(太陰病)) ? Dongmu Lee Je-Ma? s conception about Soeurnin Gwakran(곽란(藿亂)) Disease is changed.

  • Objectives This paper investigates the origins, changes, and the constructive principles of Hyungbangjihwang-tang(荊防地黃湯). Methods Hyungbangjihwang-tang and other related prescriptions were analyzed in terms of their pathological indications, based on previous literature including 『Gogeumuigam(古今醫鑑)』, 『Sanghannon(傷寒論)』, 『Uihagjeongjeon(醫學正傳)』, 『Donguisusebowon·Sasangchobongwon(東醫壽世保元·四象草本卷)』, 『Donguisusebowon·Gabobon(東醫壽世保元·甲午本)』, 『Donguisusebowon·Sinchukbon(東醫壽世保元·辛丑本)』. Results and Conclusions The origins of Hyungbangjihwang-tang can be seen in three sections depending on the classification of medicinal herbs. Schizonepeta tenuifolia Briq.(荊芥), Saposhnikovia divaricata Schischk.(防風), Notopterygium incisum Ting(羌活), Aralia cordata Thunb.(獨活), and Plantago asiatica L.(車前子) originated from Hyungbangpaedok-san(荊防敗毒散) included in 『Gogeumuigam』. Poria cocos Wolf.(茯苓) and Alisma canaliculatum(澤瀉) originated from Ohryoung-san(五苓散) included in 『Sanghannon』. Rehmannia glutinosa for hueichingensis(熟地黃) and Cornus officinalis S. et Z.(⼭茱萸) originated from Yukmijihwang-tang(六味地黃湯) included in 『Uihagjeongjeon』. Hyungbangpaedok-san was transformed into "Paedok-san" in 『Chobongwon(草本卷)』, Hyungbangpaedok-san in the 『Gabobon(甲午本)』 and 『Sinchukbon(辛丑本)』. Yukmijihwang-tang was mentioned as a Soyangin medicine in the 『Chobongwon』 and was later transformed into a Suhwagije-tang(水火旣濟湯) in 『Gabobon』. The meaning of Yukmijihwang-tang inherited in 『Sinchukbon』 as Dokhwaljihwang-tang and Hyungbangjihwang-tang. The medicinal herbs in Hyungbangjihwang-tang can be categorized in three sections by their functions, Schizonepeta tenuifolia Briq., Saposhnikovia divaricata Schischk., Notopterygium incisum Ting, Aralia cordata Thunb., and Plantago asiatica L. scatter the Pyohan(表寒) and make the Pyoeum(表陰) drop. Poria cocos Wolf.(茯苓) and Alisma canaliculatum(澤瀉) make the Pyoeum(表陰) drop through Lee-su(利水). Rehmannia glutinosa for hueichingensis(熟地黃) and Cornus officinalis S. et Z.(⼭茱萸) tonify Shin-won(腎元). The each principles of medicinal herbs corresponds to the stage of the "Cold-related Diarrhea in Soyangin Spleen Cold-based Exterior Cold disease(少陽人 脾受寒表寒病 亡陰病 身寒腹痛亡陰證)".

  • 1. Objectives This paper was written in order ro understand the conception on YangQi and YinQi in Sasang Constitutional Medicine. Specially that were focused on the discourse of the symptoms and diseases. 2. Methods We analysis YangQi and YinQi in Gabobon(甲午本) and Sinchukbon(辛丑本) of ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Suse Bowon${\lrcorner}$ 3. Results and Conclusions The symptomatic-pharmacology of Soeunin and Soyangin was base on the master of reserving life(保命之主). YangQi is ascending Qi and YinQi is descending Qi. that conception is Qi of the large and small organ. And that is appeared hot or cold Qi in body. The influential competition of YinYang is focused on primordial Qi(正氣) of small organ in Gabobon. And focused on small organ's the primordial Qi of the exterior disease and large that of the interior disease in Sinchukbon. YangQi is divided to physiological that and patholgical that at the discourse on the Soyangin’s interior disease in the Sinchukbon. Because YinQi is in proportion to physiological YangQi and inverse proportion to pathological YangQi, physiological that is similar to weak and strong of YinQi that is the master of reserving life. So ascending Yang of Soyangin is more correct as ascending physiological that. YinQi is not divided to physiologica that and patholgical that at the discourse on the Soeumin's interior disease in the Sinchukbon like Soyangin's that. But there is more reasonable that divid physiological YinQi and patholgical that. So descending Yin of Soeumin is more correct as descending physiological that.

  • 1. Objectives: This paper was written to understand the origin, changes and the constructive principles of Jeokbaekhaogwanjung-tang(Chibaihewu-tang; 赤白何烏寬中湯). 2. Methods: Jeokbaekhaogwanjung-tang and other related prescriptions were analyzed in terms of pathology, based on "Donguibogam(東醫寶鑑)", "Donguisusebowon Chobongwon(東醫壽世保元 草本卷)", "Donguisusebowon Gabobon(東醫壽世保元 甲午本)", "Donguisusebowon Sinchukbon(東醫壽世保元 辛丑本)" and "Donguisasangsinpyeon(東醫四象新編)" 3. Results: and Conclusions: 1) The origin of Jeokbaekhaogwanjung-tang, which inherited the spirit of Zhang, Zhongjing(張仲景)'s Sasim-tang(Xiexin-tang; 瀉心湯), is discovered in the prescriptions for Sun-qi(順氣), that is, Gwanjung-hwan(Kuanzhong-wan; 貫衆丸) and Mokhyangsungi-san(Muxiangshunqi-san; 木香順氣散). 2) The Jeokbaekhaogwanjung-tang was derived from Gangchulpajeok-tang(Jiangzhupoji-tang; 薑朮破積湯) of "Dongyisusebowon Gabobon", where the herbal medicines, Panax ginseng(人蔘) of Sasim-tang was replaced with Cynanchum wilfordii(白何首烏) and Allium sativum(獨頭蒜) was newly used too. Thereafter, Polygonum multiflorum(赤何首烏) and Alpinia oxyphylla(益智仁) were first added in Jeokbaekhaogwanjung-tang in "Sinchukbon". 3) The Jeokbaekhaogwanjung-tang, composed of 8 herbs except for Zizyphus jujuba(大棗), treats Taeumjeung(太陰證) of Soeumin(少陰人) through warming the Stomach(溫胃) of Cynanchum wilfordii, Polygonum multiflorum, Zingiber officinale(乾薑) and Alpinia officinarum(良薑) and downbearing the Yin(降陰) of Citrus reticulata(靑皮), Citrus unshiu(陳皮), Cyperus rotundus(香附子) and Alpinia oxyphylla.

Literature Investigation of Jejo (제조에 대한 문헌고찰(文獻考察))

  • 1. Objectives The object of this thesis is to find the basis on why Jejo was assigned as a Taeumin medicine, and to understand Taeumin edema. 2. Methods ${\ulcorner}$Dongyisusebowon${\lrcorner}$ 'Shinchukbon', 'Gabobon', 'Chobonkwun', other related Sasang Constitutional Medicine(SCM) books, herbal medicine books such as ${\ulcorner}$Bonchokangmok${\lrcorner}$, and etc. were compared and researched. 3. Results & Conclusions (1) In Sasang Constitutional Medicine, edema is seen as a critical condition. The first cause of edema in Taeumin is fatigue, a condition where the flow of Qi and Fluid Qi is stagnated. Secondly, edema is caused as Taeeumin is mentally stressed(勞心焦思) and he/she is unable to accomplish his/her plans over many trials or as when they find pleasure in striving for greed. When Lungs which is Incline & Small Viscera(偏小之臟) in Taeumin decreases, it diminishes Real Count of Longevity(命脈實數) which leads to edema formation. (2) Perspective of Human Nature & Character(心性學) and Regimen(養生法) became included gradually in the treatment methods and prescription of edema in Taeumin as ${\ulcorner}$Dongyisusebowon${\lrcorner}$ was revised over time. The revisions also lead to more diversity in prescriptions. (3) Jejo didn't appear In ${\ulcorner}$Dongyisusebowon${\lrcorner}$ 'Chobonkwun' and 'Gabobon'. It was first presented in 'Shinchukbon' as a medicine to treat edema in Taeumin. (4) Jejo have effects of easing clumps. Also it has a strong radiating ability(發散力) which induces perspiration to treat diseases. Finally Jejo is used to remove Takki(濁氣) by utilizing powerful Exhale Gathering Qi contained in it.

  • 1. Objectives This paper investigates the origin, the progressive changes and the constructive principles of Palmulgunja-tang (八物君子湯). 2. Methods Palmulgunja-tang and other related prescriptions were analyzed in terms of their pathological indications, based on previous literature including "Donguisusebowon Chobongwon (東醫壽世保元 草本卷)", "Donguisusebowon Gabobon (東醫壽世保元 甲午本)", "Donguisusebowon Sinchukbon (東醫壽世保元 辛丑本)" and "Dongmuyugo (東武遺稿)". 3. Results and Conclusions 1) The Palmulgunja-tang most likely originates from Paljin-tang introduced in "Donguisusebowon Chobongwon (東醫壽世保元 草本卷)". Paljin-tang progressively transformed into Seungyangpalmul-tang ("Donguisusebowon Gabobon (東醫壽世保元 甲午本)") and ultimately into Palmulgunja-tang ("Donguisusebowon Sinchukbon (東醫壽世保元 辛丑本)"), a prescription appropriate for usage in the Ulgwang symptomatology (鬱狂證). Also, Seungyangikgi-tang in "Donguisusebowon Sinchukbon (東醫壽世保元 辛丑本)" can be presumed to have been affected by Seungyangpalmul-tang. 2) The variational prescriptions (變方) of Palmulgunja-tang shows increasing Seungyang (升陽) effect in order of Baekhaogunja-tang, Sipjeondaebo-tang, Palmulgunja-tang, and Doksampalmul-tang. 3) Palmulgunja-tang is composed of 8 herbs. Of these, Paeoniae Radix Alba (白芍藥), Glycyrrhizae Radix(甘草), Angelicae gigantis Radix (當歸), and Cnidii Rhizoma (川芎) fortify the Soeumin Spleen Element (脾元). Ginseng Radix (人蔘) and Astragali Radix (黃芪) support the ascension of Yang, whereas Atractlodis Rhizoma White (白朮) and Citrus unshiu (陳皮) encourage the descension of Yin.

Methods: Insamjinpi-tang and other related prescriptions were analyzed in terms of pathology, based on "Dongyisusebowon Chobongwon(東醫壽世保元 草本卷)", "Dongyisusebowon Gabobon(東醫壽世保元 甲午本)", "Dongyisusebowon Sinchukbon(東醫壽世保元 辛丑本)", "Donguisasangsinpyeon(東醫四象新編)" 3. Results and Conclusions: (1) The origin of Insamjinpi-tang is Doksamyangbung-tang(獨蔘良崩湯), which is combination of Yijung-tang(理中湯), and Insamkeji-tang(人蔘桂枝湯) (2) The origin of Insamjinpi-tang was derived from Doksamyangbung-tang of "Dongyisusebowon Gabobon". Insamjinpitang greatly increases Ginseng Radix Alba(人參) when Insamjinpitang was compared with Yijung-tang, Insamkeji-tang. Insamjinpitang put to use Amomi Fructus(砂仁) newly first. (3) The Insamjinpitang composed of 5 herbs, Ginseng Radix Alba(人參), Zingiberis Rhizoma Crudus(生薑), Citrus unshiu (陳皮), Zizyphus jujuba(大棗) and Amomi Fructus(砂仁); Ginseng Radix Alba(人參) and Zingiberis Rhizoma Crudus (生薑) treat Taeumjeung(太陰證) of Soeumin(少陰人) through warming the Stomach(溫胃), Citrus unshiu(陳皮) makes the Yin(陰) downbearing, Zizyphus jujuba(大棗) making harmony between innerside and outerside of body and Amomi Fructus(砂仁) making stable one's mind.

Objectives: This research was proposed to find out the selection and form of addition and subtraction of the Sasang prescription. 2.Methods: The related contents of the pathology and the medical action of a Sasang disease were selected in "Donguisusebowon- Sasangchobongyun, -Gabobon, -Shinchukbon(東醫壽世保元-四象草本卷, -甲午本, -辛丑本)", "Donguisasangsinfyun(東醫四象新編)". 3.Results and Conclusions: 1) The change and development of the Sasang prescription. 2) The selection of drugs are caused by immunity of the ordinary times and a class of present disease. 3) Addition and subtraction of the Sasang prescription can divide 4-type.

Results and Conclusions 1) Red Poria and White Poria seems to be different in Sasang Constitutional Medicine. 2) Poria in Soyangin Prescription had used from the traditional medical point at the beginning, in ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Suse Bowon Chobonkwon(東醫壽世保元草本卷)${\lrcorner}$ , but its usage was changing until ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Suse Bowon Sinchukbon(東醫壽世保元辛丑本)${\lrcorner}$ as the point of Sasang Constitutional Medicine. 3. It is necessary to use Poria in Soyangin Prescription as the essence of Soyangin's life because it effects on the whole body without any distinction from body's upper part with lower part and body's exterior part with interior part.
