  • This paper deals with the development of on-line fault and lightning stroke section locating system for branched overhead transmission line. The section locating algorithm of this system i3 by analyzing the distribution pattern of current flowing through the overhead ground wire. It composes of three parts; current sensors, local remote terminal unit(RTU) and analysis program at surveillance tenter. Double Rogowski coil sensor having integrating amplifier was designed as current sensor. In order for current pattern analysis, the transmitted waves from each sensor wert synchronized by GPS tim c clock in RTU. While, lightning stroke location are judged only by polarity information of lightning currents. This design has a benefit in simplicity of signal processing unit of RTU.

  • The Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signal gets delayed as it goes through the troposphere before reaching the GNSS antenna. Various tropospheric models are being used to correct the tropospheric delay. In this study, we compared effectiveness of two popular troposphere correction models: Global Pressure and Temperature (GPT) and Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS). One-year data from a particular site was chosen as the test case. Tropospheric delays were computed using the GPT and SBAS models and compared with the International GNSS Service tropospheric product. The bias of SBAS model computations was 3.4 cm, which is four times lower than that of the GPT model. The cause of higher biases observed in the GPT model is the fact that one cannot get wet delays from the model. If SBAS-based wet delays are added to the hydrostatic delays computed using the GPT model, then the accuracy is similar to that of the full SBAS model. From this study, one can conclude that it is better to use the SBAS model than to use the GPT model in the standard code-pseudorange data processing.

  • The Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) algorithm is being used widely for identifying the location of a source emanating either electrical or acoustic signal. It's application areas will not be limited to identifying the source at a fixed location, for example the origin of an earthquake, but will also include the trajectory monitoring for a moving source equipped with a GPS sensor. Most of the TDOA algorithm uses time correlation technique to find the time delay between received signals, and therefore difficult to be used for identifying the location of multiple sources. In this paper a TDOA algorithm based on cross-spectrum is developed to find the trajectory of two sound sources with different frequencies. Although its application is limited to for the sources on a disk plane, but it can be applied for identifying the locations of more than two sources simultaneously.

  • A new stage-sliced pipiline structure is presented to design a high speed real time Global Positional Systems(GPS) applications. The CORDIC algorothm was revised to generate a pipeline structure, which will be used to produce a large amount of trigonometric computations rapidly. A stage-sliced approach was introduced to adjust the number of interative processes, and thereby to control the precision of computation results. Both the computation and the control circuits of the proposed architecture are included in a pipeline stage, which are intergrated into a stage slice. The circuit was prototyped using six FPGA chips : one is used for glue logics and five of the chips are used for pipeline slice implementation. A single FPGA chip comprising 7 pipeline stages provides one pipeline slice. To compensate and inter-slice time delay, dummy cycles are introduced in inter-slice signal exchanges.

  • In this paper, we describe a principle of the atomic frequency standard and clock system in VLBI(Very Long Baseline Interferometry). The hydrogen maser is a usual VLBI standard. During VLBI observations, signals emitted by distant sources of radio frequency energy(quasars) are received and recorded at several antennas. At each antenna(VLBI station), a very stable frequency standard(hydrogen maser) provides a reference signal which enables time-tagging to the quasar signals as they are being recorded on magnetic tapes or hard-disk modules. For each VLBl experiment, correlation of the time-tagged recorded information between the participating antennas is used to yield the arrival time differences of any specific quasar radio wave between the antennas. These time differences are used to calculate the relative antennas to each other. In this paper, we also introduce the KVN(Korean VLBI Network) atomic frequency standard and clock system.

  • This paper proposes a beacon color code scheduling algorithm for the localization of multiple robots in a multi-block workspace. With the developments of intelligent robotics and ubiquitous technology, service robots are applicable for the wide area such as airports and train stations where multiple indoor GPS systems are required for the localization of the mobile robots. Indoor localization schemes using ultrasonic sensors have been widely studied due to its cheap price and high accuracy. However, ultrasonic sensors have some shortages of short transmission range and interferences with other ultrasonic signals. In order to use multiple robots in wide workspace concurrently, it is necessary to resolve the interference problem among the multiple robots in the localization process. This paper proposes an indoor localization system for concurrent multiple robots localization in a wide service area which is divided into multi-block for the reliable sensor operation. The beacon color code scheduling algorithm is developed to avoid the signal interferences and to achieve efficient localization with high accuracy and short sampling time. The performance of the proposed localization system is verified through the simulations and the real experiments.

  • Even though there are next generation Global Navigation Systems in development, only GPS and GLONASS are currently available for satellite positioning. In this study, GLONASS orbits were predicted using Keplerian elements in almanac and the orbit equation. For accuracy validation, predicted orbits were compared with precise ephemeris. As a result, the 3-D maximum and RMS (Root Mean Square) errors were 155.4 km and 56.3 km for 7-day predictions. Also, the GLONASS satellite visibility predictions were compared with real observations, and they agree perfectly except for several epochs when the satellite signal was blocked nearby buildings.

  • This paper describes two kinds of personal hand-held electronic devices to enhance marine leisure safety. The one is Radar response-type safety device triggering by the pulse signal from a commercial 9GHz-band Radar to provide quick search and rescue with combined civilian-government-military fleets. The other one is M-RFID (Marine Radio Frequency IDentification) based safety electronic device using 900MHz Tx/Rx with spread spectrum frequency hopping and GPS. Through the field tests at sea using Korea Coast Guard's warship the operating performances are verified. Further plan for practical use of each device was also discussed.

  • One-sided and two-sided ATF for GNSS receiver are deigned, implemented and evaluated in this paper. The difference f filter characteristics such as the location of zeros and the frequency response is reviewed and examined with experiments. NLMS adaptation algorithm is adopted for updating the weighting coefficients of the 12-tap FIR filter. he performance of ATF is evaluated using real signals consisting of the signals from GPS simulator and the signal generator. The output of ATF is fed into the SDR to evaluate SNR and the position accuracy. The complexity of implementation is also compared and the effects of the time delay and the phase delay are examined. The experimental results show that one-sided and two-sided ATF give similar performance against single tone CWI.
