  • A precise and dense Bouguer anomaly is one of the most important data to improve the knowledge of our environment in the aspect of geophysics and physical geodesy. Besides the precise absolute gravity station net, we should consider two parts; one is to improve the precision in gravity measurement and correction of it, and the other is the density of measurement both in number and distribution. For the precise positioning, we have tested how we could use the GPS properly in gravity measurement, and deduced that the GPS measurement for 5 minutes would be effective when we used DGPS with two geodetic GPS receivers and the baseline was shorter than 40km. In this case we should use a precise geoid model such as PNU95. By applying this method, we are able to reduce the cost, time, and number of surveyors, furthermore we also get the benefit of improving in quality. Two kind of computer programs were developed to correct crossover errors and to calculate terrain effects more precisely. The repeated measurements on the same stations in gravity surveying are helpful not only to correct the drifts of spring but also to approach the results statistically by applying network adjustment. So we can find out the blunders of various causes easily and also able to estimate the quality of the measurements. The recent developments in computer technology, digital elevation data, and precise positioning also stimulate us to improve the Bouguer anomaly by more precise terrain correction. The gravity data of various sources, such as land gravity data (by Choi, NGI, etc.), marine gravity data (by NORI), Bouguer anomaly map of North Korea, Japanese gravity data, altimetry satellite data, and EGM96 geopotential model, were collected and processed to get a precise and dense Bouguer anomaly in and around the Korean Peninsula.

  • It is well-known that even the DGNSS (Differential Global Navigation Satellite System) technique in navigation for ground vehicles can only provide several meters of accuracy, such that it is suitable for simple guidance. On the other hand, centimeter to millimeter level accuracy can be obtained by using carrier phase observables in the field of precision geodesy/surveying. In this study, a preliminary study was conducted to apply NRTK (Network-RTK) by NGII (National Geographic Information Institute) to ground vehicle navigation. Onboard GNSS receivers were used for NRTK throughout the country, and the applicability of NRTK on navigation was analyzed based on NRTK surveying results. The analysis shows that the overall ambiguity fixing rate of NRTK is high and is therefore possible to apply it for navigation. In urban areas, however, the fixing rate decreases sharply, therefore, it needs to employ a method to minimize the effect of the float solutions, which can reach up to 10 meters. It is still feasible to obtain a centimeter level of accuracy in some area using NRTK under certain conditions. But, the ambiguity fixing rate of FKP falls down to 55% for high speed vehicles, and so the surveying accuracy should be determined by considering various factors of surveying environments. In addition, it is difficult to fix ambiguities using single-frequency GPS receivers. Finally, several suspicious NRTK(FKP) connection problems occurred during atmospheric disturbances (phase two or up), which should be investigated further in upcoming research.

  • Recently, the necessity of spatial data in unaccessible area was challenged to set up various plans and policies for preparing the unification and the cooperative projects between South-North Korea. Therefore, this paper planned to evaluate the possibility of adopting the error tolerance in Geometric correction for 1/5,000 digital topographic mapping, using the PLEIADES images and the TerraSAR GCPs (Ground Control Points). The geometric correction was performed by changing the number and placement of GCPs by GPS (Global Positioning System) surveying, as the optimal placement of 5 GCPs were selected considering the geometric stability and steady rate. The positional accuracy evaluated by the TerraSAR GCPs, which were selected by optimal placement of GCPs. The RMSE in control points were X=±0.64m, Y=±0.46m, Z=±0.28m. While the result of geometric correction for PLEIADES images confirmed that the RMSE in control points were X=±0.34m, Y=±0.27m, Z=±0.11m, the RMSE in check points were X=±0.50m, Y=±0.30m, Z=±0.66m. Through this study, we believe if spatial data can integrate with the PLEIADES images and the optimal TerraSAR GCPs, it will be able to obtain the high-precision spatial data for adopting the regulation of 1/5,000 digital topographic map, which adjusts the computation as well as the error bound.

  • Compare to other industrial sites, the civil construction work not only takes longer time but also has made of complicated processes, such as the integrated management, process control, and quality control until the completion. However, it is hard to take control the construction sites, since numerous issues are always emerged. The study purposes on providing the dataset to synthetically manage and monitor the civil construction site, main design, drawings, process, construction cost, and others at real-time by using the low altitude close-range aerial images, based on UAV, and the GPS surveying method for treating the three-dimensional spatial information quickly and accurately. As a result, we could provide the latest information for the quick decision-making following from planning to completion of the construction, and objective site evaluation by the high-resolution three-dimensional spatial information and drawings. Also, the present map, longitudinal map, and cross sectional view are developed to provide various datasets rapidly, such as earthwork volume table, specifications, and transition of ground level.

  • During precise survey on the top of High rise buildings and civil structures, optical surveying equipments like a Total Station are not recommended to use because of some reasons that uneasier alignment with reflectors located at the top of building, increasing error depends on increasement of observation distance and unavailable dynamic positioning etc. Recently various GPS positioning methods have been applied to this job however almost of them are post-processing method which is required much longer time during for whole process includes stake-out, cross checking, fixing positions and final inspections. Therefore, in this study, we applied with RTK surveying system which allows stake-out and inspection in realtime to avoid delaying of construction schedule and also applied with Quasi Static RTK measurement and network adjustment to get a high accuracy within a few millimeters in structure positioning to achieve a successful management for process and quality control of the project. As a result, very high accurate surveying for structures within approx. 2mm in realtime has been achieved when surveyor conduct a network adjustment using least square method for 4 base lines created by Quasi Static RTK data and we expect this method will be applied to construction survey for high rise buildings and civil structures in the future.

  • Digital Elevation Models (DEM) is widely used in establishing the topographic profile in nation spatial information. Aerial Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) system is one of the well-known means to produce DEM. The system has fast data acquisition procedures and less weather-dependent restrictions compared to photogrammetric approaches. In this regards, LiDAR has been widely utilized and accepted in the process of nation spatial information generation due to its sufficient positional accuracy. However, the investigation of the accuracy of aerial LiDAR data over the area of forestation with various kinds of vegetations has been barely implemented in Korea. Hence, this research focuses on the investigation of the accuracy of aerial LiDAR data over the area of forestation and the evaluation of the acquired accuracy according to the characteristics of the vegetations. The study areas include land with shrubs and its adjacent forest area with mixed tree species. The spots for the investigation have been selected to be well-distributed over the whole study areas and their coordinates are surveyed by Global Positioning Systems (GPS). Then, the surveyed information and aerial LiDAR data have been compared with each other and the result accuracy has been evaluated. Conclusively, it is recommended that LiDAR data collection to be conducted after defoliation period, especially over the areas with broadleaf trees due to the possibility of significant outliers.

  • Satellite imagery was applied to locating archeological sites and remains around northeastern areas of China, called as Manchuria, and Korean peninsular, such as Mountain Fortress of Goguryeo Dynasty era($37BC{\sim}771AD$), and firing torch and smoke beacon signal sites at mountain tops in Josun Dynasty era($1392{\sim}1910AD$) as well as burial sites below the ground level in the modern era. Information on archeological sites, fire posts and burial places could be found in various literatures, but real figures of such cultural assets have been disappearing due to land development programs and human activities in recent years. Some of these historical sites were identified in satellite images using GPS(Geographical Positioning System). Real locations of these sites would be further necessary to be verified.

  • On this study, Among the classification methods of land cover using satellite imagery, we compared the classification accuracy of Neural Network Classifier and that of Maximum Likelihood Classifier which has the characteristics of parametric and non-parametric classification method. In the assessment of classification accuracy, we analyzed the classification accuracy about testing area as well as training area that many analysts use generally when assess the classification accuracy. As a result, Neural Network Classifier is superior to Maximum Likelihood Classifier as much as 3% in the classification of training data. When ground reference data is used, we could get poor result from both of classification methods, but we could reach conclusion that the classification result of Neural Network Classifier is superior to the classification result of Maximum Likelihood Classifier as much as 10%.

  • A series of experiments have been carried out by using National Geographic Information Institute(NGII)'s Continuously Operating Reference Station (CORS) data with various strategies to analyze the impact of multi-GNSS measurements on baseline processing. The results of baseline processing were compared in terms of ambiguity fixing rate, precision, and hypothesis tests were conducted to confirm the statistical difference. The combination of multi-GNSS measurements has helped to improve ambiguity fixing rate, especially under harsh positioning environments. Combination of GPS, Galileo, BeiDou could get better precision than that of GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and adding QZSS made the baseline solution's vertical component more precisely. The hypothesis tests have statistically confirmed that the inclusion of the multi-GNSS in the baseline processing enables not only to reduce field observation time length but also to enhance the solution's precision. However, it is of interest to notice that results of the baseline solution are dependent upon the software used. Hence, comprehensive studies should be performed shortly to derive the best practice to select the appropriate software.
