  • In this paper, we proposed the geolocation method using target detection information in infrared images. Our method was applied to geolocation system of hostile targets in ground-to-ground field. The major distortion that has bad effect of geolocation was composed of optic, topography, GPS(Global Positioning System) and IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit) of reconnaissance unit. We proposed enhanced geolocation method to cope with optic and topography distortion using polynomial fitting and slant-range calculation model to overcome earth curvature problem, and the result showed that the performance of our method was good for system requirements.

  • Since aerial photogrammetry by analog camera began in 1972, recently, high resolution digital camera is actively introduced to improve efficiency of aerial photogrammetry. This study investigated the 3D positioning accuracy of DMC(Digital Mapping Camera) among various high resolution aerial digital cameras to be developed for photogrammetry. For the research, we installed control points in test field around Incheon, and acquired analog and digital aerial photographs. By comparing 3D positioning accuracies of analog and digital photographs, there are few difference between two cameras, and the 3D positioning accuracies of two cameras was somewhat increased in case of aerotriangulation using additional control points based on GPS/IMU EO data.

  • This paper suggests a velocity integration algorithm for Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) motion measurement to reduce discontinuity of range error. When using position data from Embedded GPS/INS (EGI) to form SAR image, the discontinuity of the data degrades SAR image quality. In this paper, to reduce the discontinuity of EGI position data, EGI velocity integration is suggested which obtains navigation solution by integrating velocity data from EGI. Simulation shows that the method improves SAR image quality by reducing the discontinuity of range error. INS is a similar algorithm to EGI velocity integration in the way that it also obtains navigation solution by integrating velocity measured by IMU. Comparing INS and EGI velocity integration according to grades of IMU and GPS, EGI velocity integration is more suitable for the real system. Through this, EGI velocity integration is suggested, which improves SAR image quality more than existing algorithms.

  • Because of road construction and expansion, Update of the road traffic facilities DB is steadily increased each year, and, Increasing drivers and cars, safety signs for traffic safety are required management and additional installation continuously. To update Safety Sign database promptly, we have developed auto recognition function of safety sign, and analyzed coordinates accuracy. The purpose of this study was to propose methods to update about road traffic facilities efficiently. For this purpose, omni-directional camera was calibrated for acquisition of 3-dimensional coordinates, integrated GPS/IMU/DMI system and applied image processing. In this experiment, we proposed a effective method to update database of road traffic facilities for digital map.

  • In this study we developed a CCD camera image capture program for Mobile Mapping System. Especially, two high resolution color images could be captured and saved simultaneously through this program to apply digital photogrammetry. Program developed in this study could be used more effectively on the 3D positioning of road facilities, the state understanding of maintenance and etc. using Mobile Mapping System with GPS-IMU. Most programs currently developed and used are for the panchromatic images. But, newly developed program is for the high resolution color images. Therefore newly developed program could expand application field of Mobile Mapping System widely, and users. This research can improve the usability of 4S' products with stable and reliable.

  • This paper proposes a new method achieving computationally efficient attitude reference system for low cost strapdown sensors and microprocessor platform. The main idea in this method is to define and compare velocity differential vectors, geometrically computed from INS and GPS data with different update rate, for generating attitude error measurements which is further used for filter construction. A quaternion based Kalman filter configuration is applied for the attitude estimation with the adapted measurement model of differential vector comparison. Linearized model for Extended Kalman Filter and low pass filtered characteristics of measurement greatly extend the affordability of the proposed algorithm to the field of simple low cost embedded systems. For performance verification, experiment are done employing a practical low cost MEMS IMU and GPS receiver specification. Performance comparison with a high grade navigation system demonstrated good estimation result.

  • In this paper, vSLAM aided integrated navigation system is implemented and performance analysis of the system is completed via flight test. The system can suppress divergence of position error of INS only system by updating vSLAM correction information when temporary GPS signal outage occurs in bad radio condition. In the flight test, integrated hardware containing GPS, IMU and camera is loaded under RC electric helicopter. Performance of the integrated navigation system is verified by comparing estimated position of INS/vSLAM system with that of INS only system.

  • In this paper, the structure of integrated navigation computer for experiment is proposed. It is designed for considering the real time processing and data storage capacity. It will be used in missile, aircraft, submarine system and experimental vehicle. The I/O device supports IMU, GPS, odometer, altimeter, depth sensor, inclinometer etc. And the main storage device uses the tape device. That can improve the system stability. Therefore it can be used in a high dynamic or shock environment. The embedded linux is used as an Operating System. For the real time capability, sensor data processing and algorithm processing units are seperated. The time synchronization is referenced by IMU data.
