  • We examined the effects of GnRHa on expression of the gonadotropin subunit gene in the pituitary and on syn-thesis of the plasma sex steroids (testosterone and 17$\beta$-estradiol) in protandrous black porgy. Fish were injected intraperitoneally with 0.2g GnRHa/g and then both the pituitary and the plasma were sampled 0, 6, 12, 24 and 48 hours after injection. The mRNA level of the FSH subunit increased at 6 hours post-injection, while the LH mRNA levels expressed are same with or without GnRHa treatment. Also, GnRHa stimulation caused a significant increase of the plasma testosterone (T) and 17$\beta$-estradiol ($E_2$) after 24 hours. The homologies of black porgy FSH to red seabream, Pagrus majoy FSH, snakehead fish, Channa maculata FSH and striped bass, Morone saxatilis FSH were $83.3\%,\;79.2\%$ and $76.0\%$ respectively. Amino acid homology analysis using the GenBank and EMBL general searches indicated that black porgy FSH has a high homology with yellowfin seabream, Acanthopagrus latus LH ($97.7\%$ identity) and red seabream LH ($83.3\%$ identity).

  • The Scale of Positive and Negative Experience (SPANE) is a newly developed emotional scale to measure well-being that was designed to overcome the limitations of the previous emotional scales (Diener et al., 2010). It comprises 12 items that measure positive and negative emotional experiences, including general (e.g., positive, negative) and specific (e.g., joyful, sad) items. It also reflects all levels of arousal. This study examined the factor structure and gender invariance of the Korean version of the SPANE. For this purpose, responses to the scale of a sample of 551 Korean college students (276 males and 275 females) were analyzed. The results exhibited high internal consistency reliability and construct validity for a Korean population. Furthermore, the configural, metric, and scalar invariance of the SPANE held across gender. These results suggest that the Korean version of the SPANE is a valid scale for measuring the emotional experiences of Korean students, and it is appropriate to use in future studies of gender difference in emotional well-being.

  • This study was conducted to identify the relationships between emotional intelligence, job satisfaction, and quality of nursing service for hospital nurses, and to serve as a basis for improvement of nursing service and nursing resources management. All data were collected and conducted with the cooperation of the nursing service department in a tertiary general hospital and two general hospitals located in G province. Questionnaires were completed by 195 nurses who consented to participation in the study from 7 to 28 April 2014. Data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0. A highly positive relationship (r=0.624, p<0.001, r=0.612, p<0.001) was observed between emotional intelligence and quality of nursing service in the superior general hospitals and the general hospitals. Based on this study, quality of nursing service could be improved by a positive relationship between emotional intelligence and job satisfaction in the superior general hospitals and general hospitals (r=0.430, p<0.001). Therefore, it is important to provide a good occupational environment and develop educational programs to enhance the emotional intelligence of nurses, and a positive measure focused on less experienced and young nurses to improve emotional intelligence.

  • The present descriptive study investigated the influence of violence experienced by nursing staff in long-term care hospitals and their emotional intelligence on the quality of nursing service. The study participants included 167 nursing staff from 9 different long-term care hospitals in G and C Provinces. Data collected from questionnaires were analyzed using SPSS 23.0 software. While slight differences were found among the subtypes of violence experience, it was found that verbal violence was the most common form in violence, experienced by the nursing staff, followed by physical threat and physical violence. A hierarchical regression analysis performed to investigate the degree of influence of violence experience and emotional intelligence on the quality of nursing service found that violence experience did not significantly affect the quality of nursing service when the general characteristics were controlled whereas emotional intelligence had a significant influence on the quality of nursing service. The results of this study show that, although it is commonly believed that violence experience is a major factor compromising the quality of nursing service, emotional intelligence, which reflects one's ability to utilize and control one's emotions, may actually have a more significant impact on the quality of nursing service. Emotional intelligence can be improved through education and training; therefore, it is necessary to explore ways to improve emotional intelligence of nursing staff such as development of various programs.
