  • The paper presents a method for decision the optimal cycle time during the vehicle traffic control in single intersection with AHP. To solve this uncertainty optimization problem, the optimization index in the form of linear addition and fuzzy measurement is assumed and fuzzy integral is used. Examples of solution for two cases of optimal cycle time in two traffic controller are presented and compared.

  • This paper describe an intelligent cruise control system for automobile. With the remarkable numerical increase of automobiles on the road, the optimized traffic flow control using the cruise control is one of the very important traffic problems to overcome the limitation of an existing road capacity. Based on this idea that minimize the fuel cost and the air pollution, and accept a driver's needs for driving, we have developed an intelligent cruise control system for vehicle. This proposed intelligent fuzzy cruise controller was successfully implemented using the fuzzy algorithm, the i80c196 μ-controller board and the throttle valve actuator. The field test results on an linear road was introduced.

  • With increasing numbers of vehicles on restricted roads, It happens that we have much wasted time and decreased average car speed. This paper proposes a new concept of coordinating green time which controls 10 traffic intersection systems. For instance, if we have a baseball game at 8 pm today, traffic volume toward the baseball game at 8 pm today, franc volume toward the baseball game will be increased 1 hour or 1 hour and 30 minutes before the baseball game. At that time we can not predict optimal green time Even though there have smart electro-sensitive traffic light system. Therefore, in this paper to improve average vehicle speed and reduce average vehicle waiting time, we created optimal green time using fuzzy rules md neural network as a preprocessing. Also, we developed an Intelligent PLC(Programmable Logic Controller) for real time traffic forecasting as a postprocesing about unexpectable conditions. Computer simulation results proved reducing average vehicle waiting time which proposed coordinating green time better than electro-sensitive franc light system does not consider coordinating green time.

Development of Fuzzy Travel Time Estimator for Interrupted Traffic Flow (단속류 퍼지 통행시간 추정기의 개발)

  • Two fuzzy travel time estimators for interrupted traffic flow were developed based on field survey data and simulation data 7hat is collected from DETSIM, which is microscopic traffic simulation model that car-following theory is applied. One is FETTOS(Fuzzy Estimator of Travel Time using Occupancy and Spot speed) and the other is FETTOS(Fuzzy Estimator of Travel Speed using Volume and Occupancy). Fuzzy logic controller was applied to the estimators to deal with non-linear relationship between traffic variables and travel time. According to results of simulation and field survey. estimation of travel time can be modeled by using percent occupancy better than any other traffic variables. Detector location from storyline and signal timing Plan of intersection are affected to estimate travel time. With a few findings, the estimator was constructed and its performance was tested for observed travel time data and simulated data. FETTOS which needs signal timing plan and detector location estimates travel time with accurate better than FETSVO does. However. FETSVO has excellent transferability because the estimator needs set of input data only; volume and time mean speed.

  • In this paper, I propose Fuzzy Policing Mechanism(FPM) over ATM networks for the control of traffic which is unpredictable and bursty source. The FPM is consist of counter, subtracter and Fuzzy Logic Controller(FLC). The FLC is divided to fuzzifier, inference engine and defuzzifer The output of FLC inputs to the subtractor and it controls the counter. The counter works as a switch in transmission of cells. In simulation, I compared the FPM with the Leaky Bucket algorithm(LBM) in cell loss probability and performance characteristics. As a result, FPM gives lower cell loss probability than that of LBM and has good response behavior The FPM efficiently controls the transmission of packets which are variable traffic source and, it also has good selectivity.

  • Elevator power consists of power consumption in stand-by and in service. This paper designed a fuzzy controller saving stand-by power of elevators in a way that calculates the adequate number of elevators by the variable traffic volume of passenger and then powers off elevators being out of service. Also, the fuzzy controller was designed to minimize a increase of the average passenger's waiting time by the limited number of elevators in service. When the fuzzy controller designed in this paper was applied to the group elevator experimental device, The passenger's waiting time increased approximately 7.5%~9.5%, While the stand-by power saving is expected to be about 675KWh a day per unit and about 236.6KWh a year per unit.

  • Sometimes we need to acquire symbolic quantity of information instead of physical quantity for the output of any system. For instance we can not control traffic signal accurately through only the number of vehicles. At that case we can produce better output using symbolic quantity of road length and width and vehicle type. But it is very difficult to aggregate symbolic information from the unrelated and mutually conflicted input after calculating linear and related expression. Moreover that will take much time to produce symbolic output by the physical quantity only. In this paper we implemented the ultimate traffic control information by using fuzzy sensor algorithm and compared our results with the conventional traffic controller after studying the necessity of symbolic information in the traffic control.

  • To support Internet traffic efficiently over ATM networks, Guaranteed Frame Rate(GFR) has been proposed in the ATM Forum. GFR provides minimum rate guarantees to VCs and allows any excess bandwidth in the network to be shared among the contending VCs in a fair manner. In this paper, we proposed a new fuzzy logic based buffer management algorithm that provides MCR guarantee and fair sharing to GFR VCs. A key feature of proposed algorithm is its ability to accept or drop a new incoming packet dynamically based on buffer condition and load ratio of VCs. This is achieved by using fuzzy logic controller for the production of a drop factor. Simulation results show that proposed scheme significantly improves fairness and TCP throughput compared with previous schemes.

  • This paper presents design of meter for estimation Committed Information Rate(CIR) in Differentiated Services(DiffServ) networks. The DiffServ is a target model rather than a specification that contains detailed information about the required implementation. DiffServ provides a moderate level of quality differentiation without strict guarantees[1]. A DiffServ router consists of different components including classifier, meter, marker, dropper, shaper and scheduler. In this paper, we use the benefits of the fuzzy logic controller to design a fuzzy based traffic conditioner for DiffServ[2]. Simulations show that the approach is efficient and promising.
